The Perk - Saturday (lunchtime onwards)

Daniel seated himself in the corner, armed with coffee, notes and books. He's looking a bit tired, and the number of empty cups surrounding him seem to be multiplying.

[[ooc: For all your Perk needs. If you want to come and bother talk to Daniel, it'll have to be slow-played for the next couple of hours, as I'm at the library - yay books!]]

Orlin comes in and gets a coffee and an everything bagel toasted with butter. He looks around for a seat, and sees some one he recognizes.

"Mind if I join you?" he asks politely.

[identity profile] ascended-being.livejournal.com 2006-02-25 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think I have met you before." Orlin said taking the proffered seat, and looking at the equations with slight interest."If I'm wrong, I hope you forgive me. I am Orlin." he smiled serenley.

[identity profile] ascended-being.livejournal.com 2006-02-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yep" Orlin said smiling like it wasn't important, "You were too, if you are who I think you are." He pointed out before taking a bite out of the bagel.

[identity profile] ascended-being.livejournal.com 2006-02-25 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I thought so." Orlin said smiling happily, "I just wondered since I have seen many... dopplegangers around, and I don't like to be wronge. So, why are you here in Fandom?"

[identity profile] ascended-being.livejournal.com 2006-02-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Getting coffee."

It was so nice to meet old friends.

"I find I really like their Columbian blend." Cue sunny smile.

Is avoiding a question one isn't sure they can answer wronge?

"What do you teach?"

[identity profile] ascended-being.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"That makes sense," Orlin said thoughtfully. " Currently I work for Quark, I get to fix broken doors, laundry machines, and I get to work on some of my own projects also. I am quite enjoying myself."

He took a sip of his coffee and glanced at the papers on the other side of the table.

They looked interesting.

"Yeah, I get free room and board as long as I do handy man stuff." Orlin shrugged in a way to indicate it worked well. "My room is right next to a very grumpy man. Maybe you know him as he is a teacher at school aswell. His name is Camulus?"

Natalie arrived at The Perk after stopping by the Clinic to pick up some results and make a few more notes in Agatha's file. The smell of coffee, even now, had its attraction, and she wished she could indulge. If she did, she'd be paying for it later, so it was with a sigh that she spotted an empty seating area and took her seat. One thing about coffee houses, she thought. Comfy arm chairs.

Jenny stopped by, shoving a very large wooden cross in the front pocket of her laptop case as she came in the door. She left it unzipped and within easy reach, though. Because, hey, death by vampire? Once was enough. She walked up to the counter and ordered an extra large coffee, black, then turned and surveyed the room while she was waiting for them to get it for her.

Sleep? Not happening tonight. She had too much researching to do.

[identity profile] drlambert.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Looking up from the files she was reviewing, Natalie looked at the new arrival as she waited for her coffee. She then looked at her wrist. It was about that time, so maybe...?

Nat rose from her seat and moved toward the brunette. "Ms. Calendar?"

"Call me Jenny," she said, holding out one hand to shake. "Dr. Lambert, I'm guessing? Oooh, hold on--" Jenny grinned and turned to grab a steaming cup of coffee from someone behind the counter.

"Okay, good. Now that I'm about to be properly caffeinated, why don't we take a seat and you can show me what you've got?"

[identity profile] drlambert.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nat shook Jenny's hand. "Dr. Lambert, yes... But you can call me Natalie." She gestured toward the seating area where her papers rested on the small end table. "I've already carved out a niche over here."

"Nice to meet you, Natalie. Welcome to Fandom Town. And hey, one of my favorite little corners," said Jenny. She started on her way over to the nest of papers and then waited for Natalie to take whichever seat she'd been in. "Of course, it's a coffee shop. There's not much about these places that I don't like."

[identity profile] drlambert.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you." Natalie drew in a deep breath, once again savoring the scent. "I love the smell, but unfortunately, I can't drink it any more," she said with a rueful smile. "It causes some... medical complications. But I can live vicariously through others."

"Life without coffee?" asked Jenny. She wrinkled her nose and wrapped her hands around her cardboard cup a little protectively. "That's a fate worse than death, gotta say. And feel free to live vicariously through my caffeine-addicted self."

She took a seat and frowned at the papers. "So what do we have here? Something you think is a magical problem?"

[identity profile] drlambert.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Natalie gave a small smile, more to herself than to Jenny, then shifted foward in her seat. The papers are summaries of her lab tests, and written in quasi-plain English, with the patient's name reduced to Jane Doe. "I've had a consult with a new patient who, let's say, exhibits some unusual behavior when she sneezes. A few initial tests showed a spontaneous cellular mutation, probably responsible for her new ability. Such a mutation isn't something that just...shows up over night."

[personal profile] romanywitch 2006-02-26 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Quasi-plain English?" asked Jenny, sipping at her coffee as she reached for one of the papers. "Now you're talking. I'm as multidisciplinary as the next gal, but biology isn't one of the multidisciplines." She furrowed her brows as she skimmed the paper. "Sounds like it could be a curse. Those can be pretty varied, depending on the ability of the caster. We had a few bad situations like that at my last high school. Though this? Pretty mild, as curses go."

[identity profile] drlambert.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Silently, Natalie wondered just what sort of high school Jenny had previously worked at. Aloud, she asked, "What would it take to break a curse like this? Or is this something that might run its course and just...disappear?"
romanywitch: (Default)

[personal profile] romanywitch 2006-02-26 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd have to come up with a counterspell," said Jenny. "Which means finding which spell was used to cast the curse. And turning pink when you sneeze? I could come up with a counterspell easily enough if she were spitting out reptiles and amphibians when talked, but that's one of the more common curses."

She slipped her laptop out of its case and started booting it up. "I hate when they get creative. The research takes longer that way. Now, it might disappear on its own, but that usually means the caster got remorseful and ended it on their own. Or, possibly, died in a mysterious and unsolvable way. You'd be surprised how often that happened in Sunnydale."
