All and Sundries// [08/30]

After another few days of feverish hibernation, Seras dug herself out of bed, dressed a bit more warmly than the summer weather warrented, and made her way to All and Sundries for her shift. She'd gotten quite pale and there were purplish circles under her eyes.

Par for the course, another huge shipment of glitter had arrive. Seras signed the invoice and set about stocking the odious stuff.

All and Sundries is open.

The corner of Seras' mouth may have made a return twitch.

"According to the labels, at any rate."

"I have my own medicine thank you." she nodded.

Mary rather thought it could certainly do Seras some good.

Seras nodded as they reached the gardening section and she began to scan the shelves.

"What, like...homeopathy or something?"

"Oh I shouldn't say so." Mary said. "It's a perfectly respectable patent medicine."

"Ah."

Seras tilted her head.

"Are you a new doctor at the clinic, then?"

"No no." Mary said shaking her head. "I'm teaching a course at the school. I take it you are a student?"

"Yes. Oh! My name's Seras Victoria," she said, remembering her manners.

Mary nodded to the girl, cutting her some slack because she was sick.

Never again.

"I am Mary Poppins." she said. "Ah here it is."

"Pleased to meet you."

Seras glanced forlornly up at the soap.

"Oh bother. It looks like I'm going to have to go get the footstool. Do excuse me."

"Certainly." she said as she watched Seras walk away.

And as soon as she was around the corner.

*snap*

Three bars of soap leapt off the shelf and into her shopping basket.

"Never mind dear, I shant need you to go climbing on my account, I have what I need as far as soap goes." Mary called down the isle.

Seras peeped her head around the corner.

That had been...Oookay. Fandom.

"Is there anything else I can help you with?"

"I don't suppose you have any proper tea do you?"

In a store run by a former English Butler? In a town that was home to Walter Dornez and Alfred Pennyworth?

"Would you like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, or Orange Pekoe?"

Actually I was hoping for Rose brand tea.

Mary gave a satisfied sigh.

"English Breakfast and Darjeeling please."

Seras gathered up the brands Ms. Poppins had asked for and made her way over to the cash.

"Will that be all?"

Pitty.

"Yes thank you, that should be sufficient for today."

Seras nodded and rang Ms. Poppins in.

"Thank you very much."

"Thank you for your assistance." she nodded reaching into her purse. "And here, it won't due for you to still be sick when classes begin."

She pulls out a dark brown bottle that's quite small, there's a silver spoon attached to it as well as a paper tag that's larger then the bottle itself.

The tag says "One spoonful to be taken before bed."

Seras blinked as she read the tag.

"I...oh. Thank you very much, Ms. Poppins."

"You're very welcome. But you follow those directions to the letter young lady." Mary said looking her in the eye. "One dose before bed, no more then that."

Seras nodded and reread the directions.

"What would happen if I didn't, Ms. Poppins?"

*sniff*

"Shall I take it back then?"

Seras blinked. The expression on Miss Poppins' face reminded her of either one particularly unpleasant Head Matron she'd known or that woman from the Wizard of Oz who'd wanted to steal Toto...

Seras couldn't decide which.

"I...Oh, no Ms. Poppins. Please excuse me! I was only curious."

"Curiosity can kill a cat." Mary said looking down at her sternly. "I trust you will follow the directions won't you?"

It was on the tip of Seras' tongue to reply, "And satisfaction can bring it back again." But, she thought better of it and merely nodded.

"Yes, Ms. Poppins."
