Fandom High Welcome Picnic, The Park, All Day: Part II

"No," he said, shaking his head. "We're not related. But...I just saw you."

"You did?" Luke looked confused. "I'm sorry, I don't remember that. I'm Luke, but I guess you already know."

"Yeah." This was weird. He blinked just to make sure. "You're really Luke Skywalker."

"All my life," Luke replied with a smile. "Who are you?"

"Oh." He shook the look of 'wtf' off his face. "Gavin. Uh, Gavin Darklighter."

Now it was Luke's turn to stare. "Little Gavin?" he said. "You were yay tall the last time I saw you!" he said, motioning at about waist height, "before Biggs went off to the Academy..." he blinked. "Is he...?"

He couldn't bring himself to finish the question.

"I got tall," he said with a shy smile. He hesitated for a moment, clenching and unclenching his fists. "I'm sorry," was all he could come up with.

Luke blew out a breath, eyes showing the pain he normally kept carefully hidden. "Yeah, well, it was worth asking," he said softly. He shook his head. "What are you doing in Fandom?"

"Orders from my commanding officer," he said. "After my entire squadron...resigned in front of you."

"How'd I take it?" Luke asked carefully. Just when he thought his conversations couldn't possibly get weirder...

"Circumstances what they were," he started, "you took it well."

"Good for me," Luke said with a grin. "So I take it you were a Rogue?"

"Yeah," he said. "Commander Antilles wouldn't let me bring my ship."

He'd stop sulking over the ship soon. Promise.

"Oh, that's totally unfair!" Luke said. "I had to leave my X-Wing behind, too. All we have here is the stupid shuttle Tydirium and it's just not the same." He grinned. "Are you taking the flight workshop?"

He brightened at someone understanding the whole 'missing your ship' feeling.

"I couldn't miss that one," Gavin said with a nod. "You taking it?"

Luke grinned and bounced. "I wouldn't miss it. My father's teaching it."

And the weird just kept getting weirder...

"Your father's here?" Gavin rubbed his eyes this time. Just to make sure. "That has to be weird for you. I talked to someone earlier whose mom works in the town."

"Jo?" Luke smiled. "I met her mother--she works at the bar. She's a nice lady even if she didn't know quite what to think about the shuttle on the roof of her apartment building. Who else have you met?"

"Jo," he confirmed. "And I've met...Donatello, an Ed Elric, Annette, Peter Petrelli and someone else who knew me. Jaina Solo."

Luke grinned. "Yeah, that last one's apparently my niece. Something in my brain went 'sproing' at that."

"...niece?" He made what he hoped was a sympathetic face at Luke. But he couldn't keep the utter 'wow' look from slipping in. "Okay, you win."

"I didn't know it was a contest," Luke said lightly. "How long were you with the Rogues? How's Wedge?"

"So far, under a year," he said. And he sincerely hoped that wouldn't be the last of his time with the Rogues. "Commander Antilles is well. It's been rough lately. On him, especially."

"You must have been really young when you joined," Luke said, trying not to sound too jealous. "Anything to get off of Tatooine, huh?"

"I was and yes," he said, emphasizing that last word. "Womp rats get boring after awhile."
