The Devil's Nest [10/13]

Chris showed up ~~totally on time~~ for his first shift at his new job. He familiarized himself with the location of everything, thanks to help from Musubi.

He turned on some big band music and was ready for action.

Summer wandered into the Devil's Nest since it was Chris's first night. "Hey."

"Hey," Chris smiled. "What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

"I came to harrass you on your first night," Summer said, snickering.

Chris chuckled. "You're so good to me."

"Of course I am," Summer said, nodding. "So how'd you end up getting this job anyway?"

"It was the deal I made to get the question for our midterm in Wilson's class," Chris admitted.

Summer's eyes grew wide. "So you made an actual deal with the devil?"

"Not a bad one or anything," Chris said quickly. "Just that I'd work here on Saturdays."

"So you didn't, like, sell your soul or anything?" Summer asked. "That's good."

"Dude, no way," Chris assured her. "Wyatt would kick my ass."

"Your mom probably would, too," Summer added. "Actually, so would I."

"I'm not a complete idiot," Chris said.

"No one said you were a complete one," Summer snickered, patting his arm.

Chris gave her a look. "Okay, fine, be that way. See if I make you coffee tomorrow morning."

Summer mock pouted. "You wouldn't deprive me of coffee."

"I wouldn't?"

"I'm too cute to say no to," Summer replied.

Chris laughed. "I think I'll refrain from commenting on your cuteness so your boyfriend doesn't kick my ass."

Summer laughed also. "You make me coffee tomorrow and I won't tell him about this conversation."

"Blackmail? Summer, I'm shocked!" Chris teased.

"I have my moments of evil," Summer smirked.

"Maybe you should be the one working here."

"Maybe," Summer replied. "Though I think my dad would freak out if I worked at a bar."

"And he'd freak out if he knew you had a boy roommate," Chris reminded her. "By the way, my grandpa isn't coming out for Parents Weekend. Are your parents?"

"My dad can't make it, but he wants me to go home instead. He misses me," Summer replied. "Doubt my mom will as I haven't seen her since I was thirteen."

"Oh, sorry," Chris apologized. "So you're heading home next weekend?"

"Eh, it's no big deal," Summer said. "I think so, though it'll be weird."

"How so?" Chris asked.

Summer shrugged. "I don't know. Haven't been home since..." she trailed off.

Chris suddenly remembered about her friend Marissa. He reached over and squeezed her hand. "So tell your dad you want to stay."

"I'm not sure what I want," Summer admitted. "I do miss my dad, though. I'll figure it out in a few days."

"Well, if you need any backup with anything, you know I'll help you," Chris said.

"You'll come orb me if I need to escape?" Summer asked with a grin.

"Of course," Chris grinned back.

"Best roomie ever," Summer said.
