Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"Yeah, besides a few notes passed in class? That's it." Ino wrinkled her nose.

"And, um, dangerous?" There was a theme here.

"We so need to find someone who appreciates you better," she decided, looking around for someone who looked dangerous. "Tall, short, hair color, hobbies? Anything?"

"Taller than me, which wow isn't hard, um, a fighter--not someone who'll let me trample over them in an argument," Ino couldn't help it, she liked arguments. "Knows 'bout weapons, I guess. I don't mind if he doesn't know about all of my weapons but you know, know something? I'm not picky about hair as long as it's decently taken care of, though I'd rather longer."

Hmmm.

"Hmmmmm." Molly, of course, was hampered by the fact that she knew very few people, and none of them really what she could call well. "And this guy you barely see? What's he like? Who is he?"

"His name's Michael," Ino said, looking around. "He's tallish, I suppose and, well, he's hot, but not like, you know, movie-star hot? More like boy next door hot. He's temperamental, and unexpectedly sweet at times..."

She shrugged a bit.

"He doesn't sound bad. Maybe you just want to make him pay attention better?" She suggested, thinking that it sounded like Ino still liked Michael, at least a little bit. "Or there's him," she said, pointing to Lucas. "Though he may be more clean-cut than you're looking for?"

Ino looked horrified at Lucas. "No, no, no," she said, shaking her head. "We seriously don't get along. He was a jerk to one of my friends."

Then another shrug. "I don't know, I mean, really, even the most clueless of boys would think, hey that girl I like? Maybe I should talk to her more than one a month."

"Oooookay," she said, mentally crossing him off the list of possibilities. No jerks for Ino. "I'd think so, but maybe he's extra-clueless? Do you still like this guy Michael, or do you want to break up with him?"

"I don't know," she admitted. "I just want someone whose going to pay attention to me. I mean, in pretty much everything, I come at least second to other people. I'd like to be someone's number one, you know?"

Molly nodded, understanding that more than she wanted to, really. "Then maybe you need to have a talk with him?" She suggested, hopefully gently.

"Maybe," Ino said, wrinkling her nose. "If I can track him down long enough for it."

"There's always e-mail or phone messages," she said. "Oooh, what about him?" She said, pointing to a guy at random. "There's lots of good-looking guys here, that's for sure."

"I'll figure it out," she promised, glancing where she was pointing. "And oooh, yeah, he's definitely got the right look. And, you know, thanks."

"You're welcome. Um, for what?"

She grinned. "Listening to me ramble 'bout boys. I've got more guy friends, than girl friends, so..."

"Anytime, seriously. I live to be rambled at."

"I'll totally keep that in mind!" With a laugh.
