Vala wasn't sure what she was going to do. She trusted the technology of this universe, up to a point. Unfortunately, that point was right in front of her, telling her what she didn't want to hear.

How could she have been so stupid?

Barney was the mark. She knew he was the mark. But she'd taken her eye off the prize, and now she wasn't going to be able to just take off with all of his lovely, shiny money and set up shop in some other galaxy.

Oh, no. First she had to give birth to his baby.

Well, not his baby, but even she wasn't irresponsible enough to leave a child alone with Biff.

Vala rolled her eyes and decided to risk the smoke. She leaned over and hissed, "No, you idiot, a man with his pregnant hot piece of crumpet."

"Oh, that." It was so easy for Biff to lose track of all the women he'd impregnated. "Did you tell him yet?" He laughed. "Did he cry?"

She rolled her eyes. "There were some tears, yes."

Not real ones, but still.

"Good," Biff said, throwing back his head and laughing. "I want him to cry after what he did to me!"

Not that he could remember exactly what old what's his name had done to him...

"What was that, again?" Nothing like giving Biff the chance to monologue to take her mind off Barney.

Biff strode around the bakery, leather pants creaking as he walked. "I let him think he's my best friend because I needed to get close to him! My investigation has shown that he was the one who broke my baby sister's heart on her ski trip in Switzerland!"

Biff didn't have a little sister. He just liked to screw with people.

"So? Just buy her some skis and a lodge; she'll get over it."

"And her identical autistic triplets?" Biff made up. "She was so heartbroken she went out and had a one night stand with four different guys."

"If I'm having triplets, I will slice every head you have off your body," Vala stated.

Assuming she didn't fall down some stairs and lose the baby, of course.

"But you like my heads," he leered.

She frowned. He had a point, bastard that he was. "True, but it's not like your brother doesn't look exactly the same."

"Like Levi ever takes time away from his work with blind ferrets to learn how to use it correctly," Biff said, blowing out a puff of smoke disdainfully.

Which was why she'd chosen Biff in the first place. "He takes time off occasionally."
