Chilly Boulder, Late Saturday Afternoon/Early Evening

Dōjima had promised Cal ice cream for his birthday, and she had meant it.

Admittedly, he probably wasn't expecting the store to be filled with balloons, streamers, and people, but Dōjima tended to be a bit of a dork about things like this, especially when it came to her friends.

Besides, he had said it was okay if she brought a small army, so inviting the entire student body was perfectly acceptable, right? Right.

However it was Cal's birthday. So therefore he was there.

Angela was never one to miss out on a party, especially not when it was for someone she knew and liked. That was the case with Cal.

She was around, and still wrapped up in a scarf despite being indoors now, two days of cold this week had given her an extra appreciation for layers.

Amber was there with Liir, feeling much better than the previous two days, and she could even walk better, with just a small limp. Hardly noticable, really.

And, okay, she looked exhausted and frazzled, and her hair was still damp from the shower she'd had upon getting back to Fandom, but she was smiling as she slumped down into a chair, and tried to stay awake. And, ugh, she had to work after this too. There was no justice in the world.

Leto didn't know Cal, but Dinah had told him there was a birthday party and that everyone was invited. He watched the people there to see if there were anyone he recognised, but talking to people he didn't know was just as interesting of course.

Penelope showed up because she felt it would be rude of her not to. And she did like Cal, even if he did have a blatant way of speaking to her.

And the ice cream was sure to be amazing.

It was on the weird side for Claire to find out Cal had a birthday from an email from some random girl instead of from Cal himself, but whatever, Claire could at least show up.

Amber fixed a big bowl of mint chocolate chip with lots of chocolate syrup, stuck two spoons in it and sat down at a table with Liir.

Only a fool would have made a deal with Dōjima about a 'little' get-together for ice cream for his birthday and expect for it to actually be 'little.'

And, sometimes, Cal Stephanides was undoubtedly a fool.

Today was no exception. More optimistic lately than usual, here he thought it would actually be just a small little thing with the usual suspects (Dōjima, of course, Ino probably; Dōjima might drag in Romeo, and maybe a few other mutual friends), but nooooo.

And there were streamers and balloons calling attention to the whole affair. Great...

"At least I get ice cream out of this," he found himself muttering as he walked through the door, blinking at the party already underway.

Angela hadn't really had time for birthday present searches, but she did leave a certain book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cat-Freya-North/dp/043400538X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232673449&sr=1-3) that she'd finished reading herself, with a post-it stuck to the front.

For inspiration.

She had a feeling he'd figure out who that was from.

She'd been, uh, planning what to give him for rather way too long now, so Ino had a little basket (wrapped in sparkly cellophane, with pink and green ribbons!) that was absolutely filled to the brim with little soaps.

She thought she was funny, okay?

And flat on the bottom of the basket was a little card made out of stiff paper with hand drawn flowers all over it on one side, and on the other side, she'd done little vines around the edges for the border. In the middle of the vines she'd wrote: 'One Free Drop It Forever, Ino' Card. (Use it wisely.)

If she was honest with herself, she didn't like giving him something that open-ended, but she thought that he'd appreciate it. And maybe it'd make up for the soaps if he didn't like them.

The party is open to everyone, since it's a public space, and invites went out to students earlier this week.

Dōjima doesn't really care if townies and CopCon attendees want to crash the party, there's plenty of ice cream, although why you'd want to hang out at a teenage birthday party is beyond her.

I, however, must attend a RL Birthday that I did not know about. Whoops? SP = Love.
