Fight Club, Atlas Gym, Sunday Evening

Tyler paced the gym barefoot as the fighters assembled. "Graduates," he began. "Students. Teachers. People who work in town. Miscellaneous others. Welcome to fight club."

"We're glad to have you here," Ghanima continued smoothly. "But if you're here, you fight. If, for some reason you cannot fight, we ask you stay towards the back. This isn't a place for voyeurism. If you want a show, go find a television."

"Ghanima, you speak my language," Tyler informed her., before turning back to the group. "Two people to a fight, fights end when someone goes limp or says stop. We are not trying to kill each other here; we're trying to train. We're trying to improve. Got questions, ask one of us." He looked at his cohort. "Anything else?"

"Rules are on the door," she said crisply, "but we're happy to answer any inquires you may have."

"Now go hit the mats or go home."

"Phahg. You wouldn't believe me even if I tried to convince you anyway, would you?" Tahiri asked, and now Riina was really itching for a fight. "Come on, give it a shot. You won't break me. Worse people than you have tried."

Bel faked a yawn. "What's in it for me, other than the pleasure of beating the crap out of you?" he said.

"Who knows?" Tahiri growled. "You might get a surprise. I'm not just a kid, you know."

"Let's see," Bel said, looking her over. "You're younger than me, you're over a foot shorter than me, and . . . you're a girl."

He knew he was being a dick. BUt she started it!

Tahiri smiled tightly. "And I'm a Jedi, if that means anything to you. Not that I expect it does."

Why did they always bring up the height? Why?

"A Jedi?" Bel rolled his eyes. "Don't tell me you're related to Anakin."

"Believe it or not, there are people in my galaxy who aren't," Tahiri shot back. Never mind that she was dating his grandson. Details.

"Lucky you," Bel said. "Means you haven't inherited the jackass gene."

"That's not genetic in their family," Tahiri said more than a little defensively. Look, she liked Master Skywalker, okay? "Listening to you talk is stupid. Why don't you try and hit me, instead?"

Bel picked up on her defensive tone. "Don't tell me Anakin has fangirls," he sighed. "Do you write fanfic about him, too? Are you married on the astral plane?"

It was possible Bel had been spending too much time on the internet lately.

"Wrong Anakin," Tahiri bit out, because that would make so much sense to Bel, really. "And no, and these things keep coming out of your mouth and making no sense. How much exhaust have you been sucking?"

"There's more than one?" Bel groaned. "Great. And it's not my fault if you can't understand me, blondie."

"Not any more there isn't. And quit calling me that, you overgrown pile of Hutt slime," Tahiri snapped.

"Make me," Bel taunted.

Tahiri pointed at the mats. "You really want me to? Because I will."

Tahiri, no. Stop poking the demon.

"Bring it on, blondie," Bel said. "Your funeral."

Tahiri snorted and headed for the mats. "Oh, you just wish."

"What are the rules on powers?" Bel asked idly, following.

"Someone wasn't paying attention when they said the rules are on the door," Tahiri scoffed. "Powers are fine as long as both people agree."

"And...?" Bel prompted. "I'm going to hazard a wild guess that you're not completely suicidal or stupid, which means you have some mojo up your sleeve."

"Jedi," Tahiri said again, very slowly (for her) as if he needed her to practically spell it out.

"Want to be a little more specific?" Bel said. "Or should we just surprise each other?"

"I bet I can handle whatever you throw at me," Tahiri said. Yes, this was probably a highly stupid thing to say. "Except it's crowded in here so let's not make that literal. Tempting as that is."

"Yeah," Bel snickered. "Probably safer for you to stay in here."

"Will you quit that?" Tahiri burst out, barely keeping herself from Force-hurling him across the room on the spot. Although maybe that'd get him to shut up . . . "You have no idea what you're talking about."
