The Beach, Sunday Afternoon

Savannah and K-Mart had decided that taking the kidlets outside for awhile would be a very good idea.

They gathered up everyone and headed out to the beach. The way the girls thought, the beach would give plenty of room for running and playing...

...and maybe Storm and Alice-Claire would burn off some of that energy that they seemed to have an unending supply of.

"Can we call Daddy?" Storm demanded.

"In a little bit," Savannah promised. "He's probably not awake yet."

Unlike Savannah and K-Mart, who had been awake since four a.m. Johnny should be very grateful that Savannah loved him too much to wake him up at that ungodly hour.

"Storm, no magic in the water!"

She doubted that either of the girls would listen to her on that. She sighed and looked at LJ. "LJ?"

He grinned, already moving after the two girls. "Don't worry, Aunt Savannah. I'll keep an eye on my sisters."

Savannah and K-Mart collapsed on the sand after spreading out towels and blankets. It was probably going to be a very long day.

"I can relate to that." Tim sighed. "At least according to some of my friends."

"Do want someone you can't have? Even when she says that it is impossible and reckless and that she doesn't love him in that way he continues to push?

"To not seeing the truth even when it's staring me in the face. Ironic since the Fae chose me cause I could see them when most people couldn't."

Gwynn looked down at the ground for a long moment.

"I'm not the same girl that I was four years ago. The love I have for my King is not the love of a woman for a man. He is my best friend and my King and I have pledged my weapons to him in time of battle... but I do not love him." She shook her head. "My heart lies elsewhere."

Tim shifted uncomfortably, staring off at the water pensively. "It's funny how feelings can change like that."

Gwynn sighed. "Sorry. I shouldn't be unburdening myself on you." She turned her head to look off in the distance. "It's just that it is so easy to talk to you that I sometimes forget myself or boundaries that are put up between friends."

Tim reached out and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Hey I think unburdening yourself is part of what friends are for."

Gwynn allowed herself to lean into him.

"Too many thoughts over the last few weeks. This weekend just adds to it."

"School stuff?"

She shook her head. "After school stuff."

"Like, what kind of stuff?" She was in a rather unique position after all.

"Like whether I will be returning to Briton to live full time." She swallowed. "Or if I will stay here."

"You could always do what I do." he said. "Stay here but use Portalocity to commute to where you need to go."

"I'm thinking very seriously about doing that. The portals could take me back whenever I am needed or my duty calls."

"Exactly. And Philip would know where to find you if he needed you. But if you do stay, do you think you might go to college?"

"I don't know," she said honestly. "I supposed I should try to in order to earn a career to support myself."

"I bet you'd make a pretty good park ranger."

"I've got the ranger part down already." She smiled. "I was thinking of maybe --" The last part of that was mumbled very quietly.

"What's that?" he asked, leaning closer.

"Being a writer or a historian," she said in a very soft voice, blushing slightly.

"I think you'd make a great historian. You've got first hand knowledge and all."
