Fandom High Lacrosse Club, The Park, Thursday After Classes

It was time for the first ever meeting of the Fandom High Lacrosse Club. Jackson had handwavily sent an email to all those who'd signed up, telling them to get into sports clothes before meeting him in the park. He was there waiting for them with a sign that said FHLC, as if his mere presence and the lacrosse sticks and other gear on the grass right beside him weren't enough of a clue.

"Welcome to Fandom High Lacrosse Club," he said, once it looked like everyone who was going to show up had done so. "If that's not what you were expecting but you know what lacrosse is, stay." He was desperate for knowledgeable players, okay. You could tell by how he looked like it pained him to say the next bit, which was, "We're going to start off simple." Seriously, he could have grimaced at that. "First, you're gonna introduce yourselves to the group and maybe remind me again how little you know of the sport right now because this school has no respect for athletics. Then, we're going to start practising something very basic, which is shooting the ball where you want it to go. But first, introductions. Guess I'll begin."

He squared his shoulders a bit. "I'm Jackson Whittemore, and until moving here I was captain of the lacrosse team at my old school." He'd been co-captain for maybe like a day, so it didn't count. "Beacon Hills High has won the California state championship for the past three years. So yeah, I'm pretty good at lacrosse. Now, your turn." He pointed at someone at random. "You go first."

And once the introductions were done, Jackson went on to explain and demonstrate how to shoot in lacrosse. He pointed of towards a few trees where he'd fixed some cans to as makeshift targets. "See, I've put up some cans over there for target practise," he said, then rolled his eyes, "but at a beginners stage, you can probably just try aiming in the general direction of a tree, and we'll build up from there." Assuming he had the patience. "You can work at it alone or with partners, I don't care, I'll be looking at how all of you are doing and telling you what you're doing wrong." Whether they wanted him to or not. "Now, get your sticks and balls."

That comment alone had to make up for the lack locker rooms.

Stiles wasn't looking forward to hanging around Jackson all the time (and no, Derek, he wasn't gonna spy on him) but he was excited about getting to play lacrosse again.

Or getting to play lacrosse for the first time in an actual game maybe. Possibly.

Korra didn't have sports clothes since a) she didn't have sports clothes, b) her normal clothes were more than sturdy andloose enough for most kinds of sport, and most importantly, c) she did not have a computer to get Jackson's email.

She did have Naga standing at her shoulder though. Even if she was eyeing off the lacrosse balls in a way that had Korra already telling her to stay.

Victor was starting to wonder what he was doing here as he plopped down on the grass to stretch.

There was a lot more equipment that went with lacrosse than he had realized.

Ace was still a little dubious about the whole helmets thing, eying them with a bit of a sniff, but she'd showed up in sports clothes, as requested.

Which... consisted of taking off her jacket, since 90% of her wardrobe was t-shirts and bike-shorts anyway.

"I'm Stiles, hi," he said, giving a little wave. "And I'd say I played lacrosse with Jackson in Beacon Hills but I'm sure he'll have some sort of benchwarmer comment for me, so, I'll just say I was on a lacrosse team with a douchey co-captain and I participated in practice."

See, Jackson, he could make himself look pathetic without any help from you.

That was so thoughtful of you, Stiles.

"I've never seen him play in a game in my life," was all Jackson saw fit to add, to the group. Maybe glowering a bit at that co-captain thing.

Jackson was still doubting that bit about penguin sledding, he really was.

And since Loki had already handled asking about bending, he wasn't going to have to ask about it anymore. Instead, he said, "I'm not sure... bending is really within the rules of lacrosse. We'll have to see whether it helps you or not."

He was doing a great job of internalizing his power envy for once, by the way.

"Hey, I'm Victor," Victor said, once it was his turn. "I've never really been on a team, but I'm not bad at baseball or soccer. And, uh, I've ... held a lacrosse stick?"

He already knew this was not an impressive answer.

It was still better than some people. And it somehow helped with Jackson's predisposition to hate him, because at least Victor shouldn't be threatening his leadership position anytime soon.

"Good," he said, though it was still a little dry. "'Cause you'll be doing that a lot more now. How are you with being run into?"

Ugh. "That's soccer," Jackson replied, like referring to a particularly gross kind of fungus. "Do you think that'll translate into any successful shots?"

Thor was kind of... a big guy, plus an authority figure, so Jackson was trying, here. But you couldn't make him stop being sarcastic.

Ace had been tempted to haul out her baseball bat just to screw with people's heads, but in the end, she'd decided being taken seriously was worth more in the long run.

Which didn't stop her from taking a few practice swings with the Lacrosse stick as if she were aiming to knock the ball out of the park rather than into a goal.

"I'm Ace," she said when it got round to her and she'd gone back to holding the stick like it wasn't made in Louisville. "We played at my old school." Until she'd got expelled, as you do. "But just with each other. No tourneys for juniors clubs." Not in 1987, anyhow.

Jackson still nodded semi-approvingly. Good job, Ace, that was more than anyone else had gotten out of him... basically since he'd come here.

"We'll just be playing each other here as well." Sigh. "For a start, anyway. We'll see how this progresses. Think you'd be interested in going for a championship?"

"Mercedes Thompson. I'm familiar with lacrosse and sometimes back home we messed around playing a little, but I never played on a team. But I'm coordinated and strong and a lot faster than I look."

Do your best to shoot the ball either in the general direction of a particular tree or, if you're feeling advanced, at one of the cans attached to the trees. Pair up, or go at it alone!

Not until the school administration informed him he'd be advising this particular club! AND THEN HE HAD CONSULTED THE GOOGLE WITH ITS MAGICAL ORACULAR POWERS. And any sport that involved people ramming in to each other at high speeds got a stamp of approval from him, so.

OMG LACROSSE. I'll be slow for a few hours here on account of RL, but I'll be back later with pings, I promise.

Also, there'll be locker room threads once we move this thing to the Danger Shop as the weather gets colder. LOCKER ROOMS ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF LACROSSE. In Teen Wolf, anyway.
