Student Art Show, Community Center, Saturday Evening

A meeting room at the community center had been nicely appointed for an evening show of students' work, with pieces hung on the walls and a small stage set aside for monologues and musical performances. The food wasn'tquite as abundant as it had been the day before, but there was still plenty of cheese, crackers, crudités and non-alcoholic beverages to go around -- plus some wine for anyone who was or could pass for 21.

And, of course, there was glitter on every horizontal surface. Some traditions were important.

"Ah, but who said we were talking about your sister?" Zevran aske with a wink.

Later, Kathy was no doubt going to be completely shocked to hear who he ended up leaving this thing with.

It would be hard for her to recover from a surprise of that magnitude, it was true.

"Oh, but you said--" Kathy stopped and blushed. "I see. Is that part of your performance piece, then?" she asked. "Or more of an enjoyable hobby?"

"I prefer to think of it as a passion."

"And do you feel like you and your passions have a decent outlet on our little island?" Kathy asked, trying not to smirk. "I'd hate for a guest to feel unappreciated while he's here."

Smirk, Kathy, you know you wanted to.

"It's been my experience that one can never have too many outlets for one's passions, so sadly that is the case, much as my lovely hostess has been accommodating."

Yeah, she really did.

"Hostess?" Kathy asked. "Isabela?"

It wasn't that hard to guess, considering the only elves Kathy knew of were from Thedas. She probably should have guessed Merrill, considering she was an elf, but no. From attitude alone, she was guessing Isabela.

It was probably for the best that Zevran hadn't run into Merrill, and not just for the reasons you might think.

"I see you are familiar with her, perhaps she has mentioned me before?"

"Oh, no, we haven't talked much at all," Kathy said. "But of everyone from Thedas, she seemed to make the most sense. Anders would have mentioned you, Cassandra would probably be wrestling you away from here by now, and Merrill..." She paused. "Okay, Merrill might have been a possibility, but I thought of Isabela first."

"Isabela did mention we were in another world but I had no idea there were so many of my... countrymen is the wrong word, but you get my meaning, yes, around here."

Zevran bowed. "IN any case, allow me to introduce myself, Zevran Arainai of the Antivan Crows."

Wow. Yeah, he made that bow look good, even just in his smalls and body glitter. "Kathy Li," she said, offering him her hand and a warm smile. "Of nothing in particular, sadly. Though I know I must ask, what are the Antivan Crows?"

That's because he'd put a lot of practice into it.

"The Crows are an infamous order of assassins, though I of course understand that you've never heard of us."

Still the hipster assassin.

"Doesn't going around and telling people you're an assassin make things a little difficult for you?" Kathy asked. "I would figure the most assassinations would be helped along by no one knowing there was an assassin present."

"True," Zevran said. "Were I actually on a contract that might be a problem. Of course, by that same token, it's the kind of thing one might say if he wanted to put his targets off guard."

"That's true," Kathy conceded. "The more you tell someone you're untrustworthy, the more inclined they are to trust you, because at least you're honest about it." She finally gave into that smirk from earlier. "Are you untrustworthy, Zevran?"

"Oh, exceedingly." Unless you got his approval rating high enough, then he'd follow you all over Ferelden like a lost Mabari puppy.

If Kathy ever planned to visit Ferelden, she'd be sure to stock up on gold bars and leather boots.

"Should I watch myself around you, then?" she teased. "My sister, at least, thinks I'm still terribly naive."

"Oh, definitely, the virtue of no young lady is safe when I'm around."

"And those of us who tossed our virtue out the window awhile ago?" Kathy asked. "What about us?"

"In that case I would be watching to see which windows I might climb in."

He'd been spending too much time with Isabela, the metaphors were catching.

Okay, Kathy had to laugh at that. "Sadly, I have to at least pretend to virtue while my family is here," she told him. "But I highly doubt you'll be lacking in windows to climb through while you're here."
