Luke's, Sunday

Kanan came into work today to find the Luke's staff all speculating about what kind of teen they had each turned into the weekend before. Naturally, his mere presence was enough to have them all zeroing in on him.

Kanan stood there somewhat uncomfortably as they all threw around their suggestions.

"A circus freak," the dishwasher suggested, looking at Kanan speculatively. "Oh! Or a pirate!"

"No way," the busboy countered. "Clearly he was a regular student type. He's just overcompensating for years spent being boring, now."

This seemed to mollify the rest of the crew, who then went on to discuss just how many hours Kanan must have spent doing completely mundane things like homework and brushing his teeth before ultimately cracking and becoming the roustabout grouch that was standing before them today.

This suited Kanan just fine.

Today's Specials:
Smoky Turkey and Sweet Potato Chili
Pumpkin Spice Latté Tiramisu
Hot Cranberry Tea

"See, look! He's going back to his boring student roots by trying the pumpkin spice!"

Sure, yes. That was it.

[OOC: Open! And I'm around allllll day.]

So, things after the picnic had been a little unexpectedly busy for Sarah. Complete with a sudden trip to London and all. So there hadn't been much time for drinks. Or anything more interesting than drinks, either.

But she was back now.

And Luke's happened to be along her route on a walk around town, so. Hey. Might as well drop by, when she spotted a familiar face.

"Pumpkin spice?" she drawled, in lieu of an actual greeting. "It's that time again?"

Sarah gave a snort. "More like a seasonal obsession, from what I can tell. Bloody yanks seem to love it. But not enough to have it all year 'round. Fuck knows why."

Please, Sarah, like you didn't understand seasonal things. (She just didn't understand pumpkin spice.)

Sarah shrugged a shoulder. It was as lopsided a gesture as her little smirk was. "Well, dessert's a dessert," she rasped. "Could actually go for one of those, right about now."

"Think I could start off with the tiramisu, and see where that leads me."

Sure. That worked.
electrocynic: ([ec neg] Uggggh.)

Sarah rolled her eyes – clearly not at him, but whatever she was about to say next. "Had to visit the old country." Yeah. That. "Unexpected hero business I couldn't get out of. It was bullshit, as usual."

Still, it'd been nice to see her friends again. But like she'd admit to that.

"It was mostly boring and bloody pointless administrative stuff," she replied with a sigh, as she finally took a seat at the counter. Thanks, SPA. "Renewing licenses and the like."

Yeah, her world was a little weird.
electrocynic: ([srh neu] Listen here idiot.)

"Thanks to a little thing we call the Superpower Registration Act," Sarah drawled, "yes."

Sure, it was more about licensing people with powers, but with the way her world happened to be built, that equaled to heroes.

... Well, also villains.
electrocynic: ([ec neg] Bitchy uniform.)

"Yeah, it's bullshit," she replied bluntly, as was her way. "It's not for our good, it's for the the good of the 'public' ––" Yes, sarcastic finger quotes included. "–– however the fuck that's supposed to work. But what can you do?"

Protest, maybe, but she was too lazy for that.

"Way too much trouble."

The hiding. Not the tiramisu, which she gladly accepted. With a 'thanks' and everything.

"Also," she added, "not really the kind of a choice available for everyone to begin with, anyway."
electrocynic: ([srh neu] Listen here idiot.)

Something like that. "If your parents happen to be the biggest bloody superheroes in the country," Sarah scoffed, dryly, "no one's fucking going to believe you don't have powers."

Not that Sarah had ever minded that. She'd never given a single shit about who knew she was powered and who didn't.

That was okay, Sarah didn't really know how normal people were supposed to do it either. She shrugged. "Tried it as a family show for a while, didn't stick." Translation: she'd purposefully driven her father absolutely bonkers with her antics. Because he was a bastard and deserved to suffer. "Been making my own way ever since."

Well. Give or take a LadyTrouble team-up or something. Whatever. She was digging into the tiramisu.

"Okay, this is decent."
electrocynic: ([srh pos] Smug and slutty.)

There was that crooked smirk again.

"I've been a guidance counselor on this rock for years now, so how do you think it's going?"
electrocynic: ([text] Oh the toilets.)

"Eh," she replied, shrugging, another small spoonful of tiramisu making its way up from the plate to her mouth. "Mostly, the little brats don't come to me much."

She was also terrible about regular office hours, so that may have played into it.

"So they're all right, I s'pose. Some are really fucking stubborn, though."
electrocynic: ([srh pos] You should fear this.)

Was she serious or trolling?

Probably the latter.

Sarah shrugged at that like she didn't fully see the point, but was accustomed to the idea that some people would prefer that route. "Dunno if anyone really does that where I'm from, if I'm honest," she admitted. "The spandex set, not really famed for their subtlety."
electrocynic: ([text] Oh the toilets.)

"Depends on the powers, too," Sarah replied, and that was her agreeing. Fuck knows there were many people in the lot back home who should've relied more on sneaking and less on one of the shittier, more pointless powers.

Her smirk turned wry in its own, cynical kind of way. "Anyway... Care for less depressing topics of conversation?"

"Of course."

It was something like the one thing she had to look forward to, at the moment. So, of course.

Also: "Doesn't look like I'll be taking any surprise trips off the island anytime soon. Again."

"Next Sunday?"

Yeah, she wanted to go out with him and probably do other things with him as well somewhere slightly more private, because she was so available, too. But, she didn't want to seem overly eager.

Or, she thought she should try and get some actual work done over the week as well. It was hard to tell with her.

Sarah even cracked half a smile. "Works for me."

You know, because she was easy. (That wasn't what she meant, but, let's be real here.)

And so, they had a date set up.
