Luke's, Sunday
Kanan came into work today to find the Luke's staff all speculating about what kind of teen they had each turned into the weekend before. Naturally, his mere presence was enough to have them all zeroing in on him.
Kanan stood there somewhat uncomfortably as they all threw around their suggestions.
"A circus freak," the dishwasher suggested, looking at Kanan speculatively. "Oh! Or a pirate!"
"No way," the busboy countered. "Clearly he was a regular student type. He's just overcompensating for years spent being boring, now."
This seemed to mollify the rest of the crew, who then went on to discuss just how many hours Kanan must have spent doing completely mundane things like homework and brushing his teeth before ultimately cracking and becoming the roustabout grouch that was standing before them today.
This suited Kanan just fine.
Today's Specials:
Smoky Turkey and Sweet Potato Chili
Pumpkin Spice Latté Tiramisu
Hot Cranberry Tea
"See, look! He's going back to his boring student roots by trying the pumpkin spice!"
Sure, yes. That was it.
[OOC: Open! And I'm around allllll day.]

Talk to Kanan!
Re: Talk to Kanan!
But she was back now.
And Luke's happened to be along her route on a walk around town, so. Hey. Might as well drop by, when she spotted a familiar face.
"Pumpkin spice?" she drawled, in lieu of an actual greeting. "It's that time again?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"Apparently so. This is a seasonal thing?"
Look, when you had a whole galaxy to import food from, 'seasonal' didn't always matter so much.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Please, Sarah, like you didn't understand seasonal things. (She just didn't understand pumpkin spice.)
Re: Talk to Kanan!
He'd been a teenager at the time. They both had been. Broody ones, for different reasons.
"It's... not bad. Not sure I'd choose it over something else if there were two desserts on the specials board today, though."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Re: Talk to Kanan!
The menu was very flexible that way.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Sure. That worked.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
He gave a little nod to one of the serving staff, who scurried off to grab the dessert.
"So, how've you been since the picnic? I don't think I've seen you around."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Still, it'd been nice to see her friends again. But like she'd admit to that.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
... And Doctor Lecter. But that was the island's fault.
"You look like you're more or less in one piece, at least. It went about as well as can be expected?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Yeah, her world was a little weird.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"That was not the sort of hero business I had been thinking of," Kanan admitted, after a pause. "They're licensed where you're from?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Sure, it was more about licensing people with powers, but with the way her world happened to be built, that equaled to heroes.
... Well, also villains.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Protest, maybe, but she was too lazy for that.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Asking for a friend.
Of course, that was about the time the tiramisu arrived. Kanan sat back as the waiter offered the plate to Sarah.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
The hiding. Not the tiramisu, which she gladly accepted. With a 'thanks' and everything.
"Also," she added, "not really the kind of a choice available for everyone to begin with, anyway."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
He gave Sarah a wry smile.
"Or if people know about them already, huh?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Not that Sarah had ever minded that. She'd never given a single shit about who knew she was powered and who didn't.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Kanan had never known his family. How these things worked was sort of a stab in the dark, here.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Well. Give or take a LadyTrouble team-up or something. Whatever. She was digging into the tiramisu.
"Okay, this is decent."
RE: Re: Talk to Kanan!
He had standards, hidden deep down, somewhere in there.
"Solo acts are the easiest to keep a handle on anyway," he added. "That's been working out for you?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"I've been a guidance counselor on this rock for years now, so how do you think it's going?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Because he suspected that at least a few of them were putting forth their best effort to drive him up a wall.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
She was also terrible about regular office hours, so that may have played into it.
"So they're all right, I s'pose. Some are really fucking stubborn, though."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Dante.
"Wound up rearranging an entire curriculum once to keep every lesson on flying under the radar from turning into a hands-on demonstration in why we don't solve everything with hitting."
And then he'd thrown them at a rancor. Because so there, that's why.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Was she serious or trolling?
Probably the latter.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Re: Talk to Kanan!
RE: Re: Talk to Kanan!
"Not everybody can rely on their superpowers to keep them out of danger," Kanan noted, wryly. "I'm sure they're useful, but there are situations where they just aren't an option."
Like when those powers were the thing that would give you away, if you were being hunted down ruthlessly and systematically for the crime of being a member of an order that was very well attuned to the source of them.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Her smirk turned wry in its own, cynical kind of way. "Anyway... Care for less depressing topics of conversation?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
At least he did when he had somebody around, or when he was sober. Speaking of...
"So, are you still up for drinks sometime?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
It was something like the one thing she had to look forward to, at the moment. So, of course.
Also: "Doesn't look like I'll be taking any surprise trips off the island anytime soon. Again."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"And my nights are open for the foreseeable future," he noted, in that ever so casual way that wasn't so much suggestive of a man who was desperate to have a social life again as it belonged to a guy who lived with Cecil and needed to not be in that apartment every night, squinting at the blood stone circle and wondering what he'd gotten himself into. "So whatever evening is good for you, I'll probably be available, myself."
He was so available.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Yeah, she wanted to go out with him and probably do other things with him as well somewhere slightly more private, because she was so available, too. But, she didn't want to seem overly eager.
Or, she thought she should try and get some actual work done over the week as well. It was hard to tell with her.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
It sounded pretty much perfect, honestly. But Kanan didn't want to sound overeager, himself.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
You know, because she was easy. (That wasn't what she meant, but, let's be real here.)
And so, they had a date set up.
OOC!
I fear I might starve here.
Tell my story.
