The nicest part of winter was how quickly the sun went down in the evenings--gave a vampire a lot more time to get things done before bleeding from the ears and eyes, catching fire, and dying, etc., etc.

Finally back from settling some accounts in Louisiana (and jacking up the prices at Fangtasia in preparation for the Mardi Gras crowds), Eric was back in Fandom, settled into his normal spot well away from the bar.

Vampires don't serve humans, thank you very much. That's what Tiny was for.

"We've hit our stride, I think," Jaina said, though it was good to hear that. "He treats it just like he did his Head of State position, and I have the school now so I can feel like a Jedi again instead of screaming internally all the time."

"So only half of the time, then?" Tahiri teased, but she sounded more serious when she said, "I can't imagine you could've gone much longer without imploding otherwise."

Jaina shrugged. “It’s not ideal, but it could be worse. I’d like to think I could have kept from imploding, but that might slsojust be pride speaking.”

"Oh, you could have, for a while," Tahiri said, in the serious and half-distant tone of someone who'd spent a lot of time thinking about it. "More than most, I'd imagine. But that's not the same thing as not having a breaking point at all -- acting like they don't is where people get themselves into trouble, I think."

But this was getting a bit deep for the occasion, so she shook her head and asked, "Did you bring holos? Because I want to see." To see if Jaina was going to be the GFFA equivalent of the person with five million family photos in their wallet.

“With this many family members in one place, I came prepared,” Jaina told her, getting her phone out to pull up her camera roll to let Tahiri scroll through them. The most recent ones were almost entirely of two little dark-haired bits, either together or separate. “Daniel’s usually the one making faces.”
