Fandom Pride Parade: Saturday Afternoon

Thunderstorms on the mainland? Were there thunderstorms on the mainland? Because once again, the island had braced itself for a beautiful Pride weekend, and had gotten those thunderstorms out of the way early enough in the day that, when the sun came out to shine for the parade itself, it had also provided a beautiful rainbow, clear across the sky.

Regular meteorologial event with fortuitous timing, or Fandom being supportive? Who knew?

Like last year, the parade itself was to start on the Causeway, a good gathering point for Fandomites in the past, and a fairly central location on the island. From there it would follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity and following it until it turned into Loon and Loon turned into Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where people were welcome to sit and mingle to their hearts' content.

All in all, it was a lovely day for Fandom Island's second annual Pride parade!

The parade was for a good cause at least, or that was Seivarden's impression. She still didn't quite get all of it, other than that people had a hard time because of their gender and who they slept with.

She didn't mind supporting this celebration, and besides it was festive.

Breq had seen plenty of parades in her life, and been to quite a few planets where people were persecuted because of their gender and sexual preferences. She had never seen a parade like this, though, and she was here, hoping that it would be supportive for the people who marched.

This kind of prejudice never made sense to her.

Pride again, huh? Well, why the fuck not?

There was a rainbow patch slapped onto Dante's red leather jacket, but that was the only concession he'd made to the day itself. (Even the no-shirt thing was kinda standard.) But he was grinning like an asshole as he swaggered on in, doing a quick glance around the premises to see who else showed up.

Kanan wasn't here to march in the parade, no, but he intended to be here to support those who were. Him and Stance, of course, who was already nice and rainbow-colored. There was a theme, apparently, and it was pretty convenient that his dog already fit it.

You bet your ass Sparkle was going to be here today, complete with the rainbow feather boa he'd worn last year, because of course he was, and a big grin on his face.

... He'd left the heels behind this time around, though, in favour of a nice pair of boots that would be easier to navigate the cobblestones and such in. He'd learned his lesson the last time around.

Jono had organized this thing for a second year in a row, of course he was going to attend it. And he was going to do so in style. Or, well, what passed for style if you were Jono, anyway, with his pointiest motorcycle boots and his tightest leather trousers and all...

Maybe the flag draped over his shoulders in blue-yellow-pink would distract a little from the fact that this was pretty much how he dressed half the time anyway?

The only time you'd ever see Chamber in a cape.

Hannibal was here, in a light blue suit with faint yellow cross-threads and a pink shirt. He wasn't going to wear a flag, so he'd had this done instead. He was smiling and happy, and it was a lovely day out.

Eliot felt a little awkward being here, this year, after what had happened when he was a teenager a couple weeks ago. It wasn't like he was going to do anything here; he'd grown out of his terrified homophobia many, many years ago, to the point where he hadn't even thought about it in probably more than a decade. But he still felt a little bit like a bad guy. In a different way than he usually did.

Still, here he was, his hair tied back in a half-ponytail with a pink, purple, and blue ribbon, Val on her leash for once, wearing a vest in the same colors, with a little π on it. He'd leave the more flamboyant displays to his partners, this year.

Sparkle? Totally marching here today. And to make up for his lack of heels, he was dual wielding sparklers, passing them out to anybody who wanted one. Because dammit, he intended to be fabulous today.

But no, really, Jono was here to march, and so he was here to march, his pan-pride flag draped over his shoulders, flames out just as proudly as the rest of him. And he had a selection of much smaller flags sticking out of one pocket, in an assortment, in case anybody wanted a flag of their own to wave around proudly, too.

Hardison had his boyfriend, his girlfriend, and their dog with him as he marched, gleefully thinking of all the people their happy little family would piss off--and that wasn't even counting the people they had conned over the years.

Yeah, like the island's only solarpowered, rainbow-hued lesbian was going to be anywhere but here today.

But Karolina wasn't technically marching, since her powers meant she was floating about a foot above the ground. But there was forward movement and she was in the parade, so it counted!

For those who would rather watch than march, there's plenty of parade route to do so from. Maybe not so much in the way of sidewalk once the streets are actually full of people, but Fandomites are creative and they'll figure it out if they want to.

Well, Atton had promised Sparkle he'd be here to support him. And Mira had kicked him off-planet, so the timing was good, too.

Of course the medic hadn't been too happy about Atton leaving medbay with his arm still in a sling instead of taking another dunk in kolto, but screw it. There Atton was, by the side of the road, with his nice future sling.

As an incredibly private, recently-out bi woman who didn't particularly like being a part of any community, Rosa's feelings involving Pride celebrations were...complicated. She didn't really like complicated, either, and while one part of her thought the whole idea of the parade here was kind of dumb, she certainly couldn't deny the importance of it.

So she showed her support in the most Rosa way she could think of, which meant stepping outside of MHA to let Arlo 2 out for some fresh air and a bathroom break at around the time the parade would be passing by, which would also satiate that faint bit of curiosity she denied having.

And maybe, just maybe, Arlo 2 was wearing a particular pink, lavender, and blue sweater for no reason. Because Rosa was totally the type to dress up her dog for no reason.

Mitsutada was a show-off, but that did not extend to parades he felt were aimed at, well, humans. But he still would watch any parade, and cheer on the folks that were in it. Good for them.

Somehow, Astrid definitely didn't think this Pride parade was going to be at quite the same level as the ones her mother would take her to and then subsequently abandon her at for a few hours as a child on Hollywood Boulevard in the 80s. But she still thought it was kind of neat that the island had their own version, and she had a new set of colored pencils that would be perfect to try to capture some of the pageantry in her sketchbooks, once she found a good spot along the parade route where she could sit and watch and sketch.

All of Tip's reading earlier in the month had turned out to be pretty productive, especially after her conversation with Norman back in April. It resulted in her being out at the parade as a spectator again this year, but this time wearing a tiny heart-shaped flag pin on her collar.

She was pretty sure she'd panic and run away if anyone actually tried to talk to her about it, but she was pretty proud of herself anyway. It was a slightly more firm claim to a label than the black rings she'd also spent the month considering, but still one that she could quickly cover up with her braids or shove into her pocket or something if she chickened out.

Was she overthinking this? Absolutely. But that was one of her superpowers, so she couldn't even be surprised. . . .

There was a parade today! Sidon...really, really had no idea what for, which was the main reason he was not participating in said parade, but that didn't mean he wasn't excited to enjoy it! Perhaps if the route had been around the entire island and he could swim along in the water, he may have considered it, but for now, he was content to stick around the Apocalypse Avenue leg of the parade, waving and cheering from just off Galactica Point as the parade went by.

The picnic isn't scheduled until tomorrow, but that doesn't generally stop people from hanging around to mingle after the parade! Feel free to chat, feed the birds, start a game of frisbee, enjoy the rainbow, or whatever else you want to use the park for this afternoon!

Seivarden had brought tea, which probably wasn't surprising. She found a nice spot to sit down and poured herself a cup, watching the people. At least there wasn't a lot of food eating with bare hands today.

She had actually brought two jars of glitter. This seemed to be the weekend to get rid of them. If someone asked, she was going to have a hard time explaining why she hadn't thrown them away.
