Job Fair, The Park, Sunday
While the weather seemed to be on-again-off-again sputtering rain today, the island, perhaps recognizing that outdoor job fairs didn't tend to work well in the rain, had provided a large canopy in the park, under which numerous booths were neatly set up, awaiting employers to fill them. Notices had handwavily gone out advertising the event, and so the usual contingent of food vendors had congregated on the outskirts of the park, shaking off their summertime 'this is for Wednesday' mindset in order to provide cheap fried goods to folks who were swinging by as an excuse to get out and be social today.
There, the island had done its part. Fandom's locals were welcome to do whatsoever they pleased with it from here.

Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
So she'd spent part of yesterday chiseling out a nice "So You Want To Be An Apprentice?" sign out of wood and fitting it with metal on the edges and on the raised letter to really make it pop, then settled in to work on buffing out a piece of her perhaps potentially patented Gremlin Armor in between visitors.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"I," he said, strolling up to her booth, "have another, significantly more boring job for you, if you want one."
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"No job," she said with a swipe of her hand, "is boring, unless you're about to ask to pay me to watch paint dry, in which case, I'll question your sanity, but I'll gladly accept. What'cha got for me this time, Kanan?"
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"It was brought to my attention that I don't have proper practice swords," he replied. "Or, at least, one of the new guys was looking at my selection of bamboo ones and was judging me more than a little bit for them."
He still thought they were fine, but hey, his sword was made of plasma. So.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"What else did they have in mind?" she asked. "Different sort of wood, or were they more in the mindset that if you're going to be using steel, it just makes more sense to be practicing with steel, too?"
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"Just some simple practice swords, then?" she asked. "Could be a good excuse to break out some molds, that'll make it real quick and inexpensive, plus good should you end up needing more."
It was also a foundry, after all.
"Unless you wanted to do something like different weights and balances for a variety of training, but even then, shouldn't be too much of a task at all."
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
And he was still throwing most of his money at the most baby-sized beginnings of a rebellion while he was at it. He clearly needed to do more smuggling work.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
He had a mild fear of these weekends. Not because he had anybody coming - he didn't, they were all dead - but because other people tended to have terrifying guests.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Not as good with words as she was with weapons, this one.
"Any advice for any first time-meeting-parents level teachers?"
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
"... Mostly just don't piss off any of the ones who dress in all black with creepy masks or whatever," he admitted. Because his Vader trauma would never fade. "Otherwise, I think you'll be fine. You more than grasp the subject matter you're teaching. Compared to some of the other teachers around here, especially. I can't imagine any parents not being satisfied with the education you're giving their kids."
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Well. Except, perhaps, Beaker's parents. She could see them maybe quirking a brow at the fact that her class somehow hadn't managed to kill Beaker yet. But did Beaker even have parents? That was a question Amaya could go her entire life without needing an answer to, really.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
The jury was still out on Sunday. He'd already skipped a week of work in order to check this thing out, after all.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
... Fjord was bored these days. He was a bored Fjord.
"Afternoon, Amaya," he added, giving her a polite nod and a smile. "I hope you've been well?"
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Which apparently was a problem for some people around here. She didn't get it, herself, but, then again, she was too busy picking up every job anyone threw at her and quite a few that no one did.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
So he bathed a lot? And drank sometimes.
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Amaya's lack of self-awareness at times could be astonishing, really, but just give her a second.
"Although..."
...there it was. She hitched her thumb toward the sign. "Learning a new trade'll suck up some of those hours, no problem, and you've definitely got the brawn for it, I can tell you that much."
"Althou
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
So he even knew what to look for in a weapon!
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Because he still had no idea that Friday nights were traditionally the busy nights at the bar.
"Which are the other days of the week? They're different here than they are back home."
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Re: Booths - Blackstone Foundry and Forge
Since there didn't seem to be any other convenient days of the week that began with F. At least Wednesday seemed tidily sandwiched in the middle of his other commitments.
