Homecoming Carnival, The Park, Friday

The weather had been kind, and it was just the right amount of cool for a Halloween-themed Homecoming carnival. The booths and activities were ready for visitors, and the Halloween decorations and spooooky music playing everywhere aimed to set the right kind of mood for everyone.

Yes, there was also black and orange glitter everywhere, because of course there was. Feel free to take some home with you, because it's going to be difficult not to!

"Well, look who it is!" Dwight called out with a grin as he walked up to the booth. "Good to see ya Amaya. How's it been going so far?"

"Pretty slow so far," Amaya admitted, with a snort and a gesture at herself, "if you couldn't tell by the current state of my clothes! Don't suppose you'd be up to the task of changing that, now, would you?"

"Well, I'm sure I can help alleviate that...." Dwight said with a grin as he reached into his pocket and pulled out some money.

"Well, then," said Amaya, with a decisive nod and her best chin thrust forward. "Quit lollygagging, and let's see what you've got! I know my face ain't exactly the broad side of a barn, but I'm sure you might still manage to hit it regardless!"

"Alright then" Dwight said with mock regret as he picked up one of the pies. "You asked for it!"

He shifted the pie pan in his hand slightly then gave it a toss. fairly certain it would make decent contact. Ya know, provided Amaya didn't duck or anything.

Duck? Duck?!? Ducking was for cowards.

And being no coward (at least in some things), Amaya took that face full of pie like a champ, her grin shining even through all the cream as the pan fell away into her hands.

"Nice shot!" she complimented, and took a moment to just swipe a little of the pie off her face onto her finger and then right into her mouth.

"At least they give you guys actual pies. Last time I was in a booth like this they were just pans filled with shaving cream." Dwight gave a slight shudder remembering that carnival Lizzie's school had done one year. "Not very tasty."

"Shaving cream?" Amaya blinked a few cream-speckled eyelashes at Dwight as she pulled back in shock. "Why, what a waste of perfectly good shaving cream! At least with these..." There was another swipe of her finger across her face, on the other side this time, and an appreciative lick of her finger, "you can enjoy it! S'good cream, too. You really missed out by not getting in on this pie action, Dwight."

"Well I'll have to remember to sign up early next year so i don't get screwed over by squirrels who think they are being funny by signing me up for a kissing booth!"

"Yeaaaaah," said Amaya, slowly, realizing she should have expected that to come up if she mentioned how he'd be much better off with the pies and now somewhat regretting it. "That is a tough one...."

A pause.

"I'd have just told everyone I've got a cold," she added, like someone who had perhaps already had this contingency plan in place for exactly that situation. "Or maybe the plague."

The plague did seem like it would be more effective, after all.

"Eh wasn't too bad... not like a lot of people were lining up. I survived," he said with a mock grin of pride as if that was some huge achievement. "Maybe next year we can both sign up for the pie slinging and see who gets the most visitors."

That's right Dwight, turn it into a competition... that was the easiest way to diffuse the awkwardness right? As amusing as it was watched Amaya get so flustered so easily, he wasn't that cruel as to keep poking at it.

Why...why did Amaya suddenly feel like Dwight had just cursed her to be stuck at one of the kissy booths next year? It was just a little twinge of dread in her stomach, and, thankfully, the ever-appealing draw of a nice hearty competion was more than enough to pull her attention away from it.

"I'm a pretty old hat at this, you know, Dwight," Amaya pointed out, already concocting ways to bribe her future students to help boost her pie numbers. "That's a pretty tall order you'd have to meet...even for someone of your stature!"

Because she also had to sneak in a tall joke while she was at it, too.

"And who says I haven't had my fair share of experience at these kinds of thing before coming to Fandom?" he asked with a smirk. "I've manned my fair share of pie booths, and dunk tanks too if you feel up to that challenge as well."
