Well, the weather was heating up. And it was humid. This meant that Jane was hanging out by the ice at the bar the moment she made her way inside to cool back down from the short walk to get there.

She thoroughly ignored Tino's judgement over this fact. Instead, she was busy looking up specials for the day to keep Tino from doing it.

Flint's explorations for the day had included a very hot shower in his finders-keepers home above the book shop. With soap.

It was really too bad that he'd had to get back into his breeches-and-FFD combo of an outfit afterwards, but that was a problem for tomorrow. Tonight he needed a drink or six.

He walked into the tavern and the smell was certainly reminiscent of home even if the place itself seemed clean. "Hello?"

"Hi!" Jane said, peeling herself away from the ice trough. It was so much nicer over there, though. "Oh, are you a new firefighter?"

"No," Flint said, staring down at his shirt. "I'm new and needed a shirt. They were very obliging."

"Oh." Yeah, that sounded about right. "There are some clothing shops in town. If you need more."

Because everyone was going to assume you were a new firefighter now.

"I am planning to do that tomorrow if shops are open on a Sunday," Flint said.

Dean had come in to get a drink when he noticed Flint at the bar and smiled. “Let me guess, you’re the new guy on the island,” Dean said, signaling Tino. “Welcome aboard. Let me get you a drink to help you acclimate yourself. What you want?”

"Rum," Flint said with a tiny smile. "Thank you."

“No problem. A few months ago, I was the new guy on the island,” Dean said, as he paid Tino. “This place is pretty weird so don’t let that freak you out. Everyone here is nice and will help you adjust. I’m Dean, by the way.”

He held out his hand for a handshake.

'Everyone was nice.' That sounded very wrong to Flint's ears, coming as he did where people were threatened with death over dinner. "Flint," he said, shaking the hand.

Rey didn't immediately recognize him, but he did look vaguely familiar in a way that had her looking over curiously once in a while.

Flint glanced back. "May I help you?" he asked a little dryly.

"Sorry," she said. "You look familiar. Are you new?"

Flint nodded. "I arrived two days ago. My name is Flint."

Dean looked over the specials before giving Jane a grin. “I’m not usually a mixed drink guy but those sound good.”

Jane smiled at that, leaning over the bar to give him a kiss once he got close enough for it. "I always forget how hot it gets here in the summer, so the drinks are meant to help deal with that."

Dean smiled at the kiss and reached out to give Jane’s hand a squeeze. “Should have known you were behind on the drinks. They look pretty good,” Dean said shooting a glare at Tino.

He’ll never forgive the Malort. Never.

“So I’ll take whatever your best drink is,” he said, settling in at the bar and getting comfortable.

Tino would have his revenge!

"Oh, the watermelon daquiri then," Jane replied, getting started on that. "Classic summer combination that I can picture drinking on vacation."

“Really?” Dean said leaning on the bar a bit. “I’m intrigued. What’s your ideal vacation then that involves daiquiris?”

"Haven't seen you in a bit either," Rey greeted him. "Hello."

“Hey, Rey!” Dean said raising his glass in greeting. “I don’t think I’ve seen you since you got hammered a few weeks ago. How have you been?”

"Trying to forget that. Never drinking again." Which prooooobably wasn't true but it also might be. "Thank you for the help that night, by the way."

Seeing people was the entire reason Rey went to bars. And she hadn't seen Jane in a while, so.

She of course was also taking her regular Wednesday seat. "Hi."

"Rey, hi!" The summer was rough when it came to being social. It was the heat.

"How are things?" she asked. "I've been scarce."

Listen life is hard.

"Things have been... pretty much how they've been," Jane replied, even as she glanced over at Dean. Because that was newish, at least.
