Between her work as a Jedi, her relationship, and her next steps in general, she had a lot of things weighing on her, so of course she'd want to talk to the only mother figure she'd ever had. Rey hadn't been trying to call for her, but maybe this was a sign that she should.

She'd usually be in the warehouse by now, but she wasn't really feeling it today. What she was feeling was a need for caffeine, since she'd woken up after said dream in the extremely early morning and hadn't been able to get back to sleep. Between the Force and Magic, she was healed up, but sometimes you just didn't wanna and didn't have to.

She'd gotten a coffee and a table by the window, looking out like she was people-watching, while not really paying attention outside at all.

[Open!]

comments

And so sometimes the tiniest sliver of some weird ethereal energy showing up at your old high school would just-- worm its way into your head. And if you knew what it was about, well--

There you were. Napless, with your hands shoved into the pockets of your long red leather coat, ordering a strawberry sundae at Chilly Boulder like you hadn't been avoiding this place for years.

"With extra strawberries?" Dante tried.

The lady behind the counter eyed him. "We remember you," she said. "You'll order seconds."

He sighed. An unassuming rock, about half an average man's height, grey and covered in moss and life--

Until the sun sank down below the horizon on Monday night, and the clock struck midnight. The vegetation crumbled away. Snails hurried into the grass beyond. Little veins of light spidered across its surface.

And it began to sing.

If you dream them, they will come.

Still a whisper. He'd always been breaking in here anyway. And, well, if the place was no longer run by Harley and now had someone who intended to run a real business in charge . . . well, they should get used to how this island tended to run. Which included strange men breaking into your place of business to run the till for the day.

So there.

Anyway. Needful Things was open. With a sale on antique knives. There'd been stories about some monster crashing around Marshview, somehere - she hadn't been able to find it yet. But rumors did not come from nowhere, and humans did often see the shadows of things they didn't understand - even if they didn't know what cast those shadows.

So it was a pensive Pam who opened up Pick Your Poison that morning, going through each shelving unit to check on the plants next to the products.

[[ open ]]

comments

The warehouse was massive, and the rows upon rows of storage shelves all looked alike.

And then Sharkie had told him about the internet memes and creepy pastas about that, so now, while he was also keeping an eye out for museum patrons, he was scrolling through photos of liminal spaces.

comments

Sometimes the answer was yes - office supplies were always in need, for example. Others were more curiosity.

Such as the one Steven was flipping through today. It was about habitats for frogs and toads.

Steven had nothing against the idea personally. The museum already had fish and insects. Frogs weren't that far off.

But frogs did have a particular diet they were known for. And while Blathers might be thrilled to no longer have any insects around, that would render one of the wings of the museum completely useless.

Still, it made for an interesting read all the same. Some of the frogs were rather pretty looking, if one liked that sort of thing.

As always, Steven was interruptible for visitors, whether or not they were frogs.

[open]

comments

For some reason. And not like an artificial citrus-y smell, a proper one, like a fruit freshly cut in half.

Octavia was probably going to spend half her shift trying to locate where it was coming from. And when you had a beach-themed class on the unofficial start of summer, naturally you had to throw a beach party and extend the invitation to everyone and call it work.

Fliers had been posted around town, and Kitty had the beach all set up. The umbrellas and tents from last week were back up if people wanted shade, and there were beach towels available, though there was a limited number of those so hopefully some people brought their own. There were coolers full of sodas, water, and lemonade, because it was for class, but also someone (Tino) had set out one full of beers and hard seltzers, because it was a party. There was also a table full of moddable snacks and salads, and there was a grill out, because while class hadn't gotten to that yet in their second week, this was what you did and people were more than welcome to relieve Kitty of grill duty.

So come one, come all, we're ignoring the actual weather forecast and the weather just so happens to be perfect on this here beach!

comments

Every single one of the Troopers had a different story as to how. Honestly Watts wasn't overly concerned with that. It was Fandom, things happened. Including the wildlife wandering indoors.

The problem was that every attempt to catch the porg and set it back outside had so far been met with failure, and that did not look to be changing any time soon.

comments
