There was actually very little left to do before tomorrow, so it was nice to get a little bit of time to relax. Well, relaxing around getting some training time while she still had easy access to the warehouse.

And after said training time, she headed to the Perk, because in her mind her time with pumpkin spice lattes was limited, because she had not googled anything like "Seattle coffee scene" and she'd be around caf soon enough and that was always superior. She got her drink, took a seat by the window, and just watched what was happening outside. It didn't even matter if nothing was happening out there at the moment or not, she was still going to miss it.

Octavia's birthday on Sunday had come and gone, and all the celebration with it. So she'd thought, anyway, until her phone had rang earlier in the day on Wednesday:

Gloria, proclaiming herself to be fashionably late to wishing her a happy 35th. Calling her 'wildcat', as usual. Telling her all the latest about Aaron, and how everything was going. Asking about the island, their life, all the typical things. Somehow both a little gruff and sincere in wanting to hear the answers.

Weird how a phone call could feel like home, or something even less tangible than that, lost a very long time ago.

It was a thoughtful Octavia that turned up for her shift this week, but maybe in a... somewhat softer way than usual.

The Park, Tuesday Afternoon

It was warm and it was sunny and there was no reason to be indoors right now. So Stark was hanging out in the park this afternoon with an iced coffee and no real plan in mind.

The birds were in the pond, the squirrels were probably everywhere, and there were no raccoons in sight. It was a lovely day for a walk in the park. Maybe he'd even run into someone. But if nothing else he could enjoy the warmth and the sunshine.

He really should, he thought, look into getting a dog. Then he'd have someone to walk with.

The Troopers were trying to help by pointing out they didn't have any guests either (because all their brothers were dead). It... didn't really help, no.

Rey didn't have anyone coming this weekend, since there wasn't really a point and her place was as basically cleared out of everything that would welcome guests. She was also thinking about going to the event, but didn't want to get in the way of anything, so she headed down to the beach rather than the park. She could have gone to the warehouse, but she'd been spending a lot of time there and she was sentimentally trying to visit more of the town.

She sent a message about where she was, and picked up her lightsaber to start doing drills. Sand was fine if you were her.

Parents Weekend Meet and Greet, Friday

Clearly it was unavoidably fall now, because while the weather wasn't exactly chilly, Parents Weekend had rolled around once more - and with it, picnic tables and name tags and great potential for surprise/confusion/joyful reunions among residents and guests alike.

Handcrafted paper leaves sat on all the tables. They had also been glued to trees, benches, and just about anything else with a liberal coating of glittery glue.

There was also a banner in Fandom's colors floating above the tables, of course:

Neither Steven nor Marc had any visitors coming. But that didn't rule out that others might, nor that said others might wish to stop in at the museum.

As such, Steven spent his day making sure that things looked their best. Including restocking the souvenirs should anyone wish to buy them.

This fortunately kept him near the Welcome Desk, should anyone have need of him.

Ugh. Today had been a rough therapy day and Kathy stalked into the bar in a bad mood. Not that anything Dr. Alighieri had said had been untrue, unfair, or even wrong but that didn't make it any easier for Kathy to hear. And certainly hadn't inclined her to liking it. Between that and the upcoming weekend, Kathy was just not here for bullshit tonight.

Which led to her flinging a towel at Tiny and announcing she was going to do beginning-of-the-month inventory in the back. Was that a real thing? How about you shut up.

So Parents Weekend was coming up shortly. She wasn't teaching this semester, so was there really a reason to stick around and chance Jace and his little do-gooder friends showing up? On the other hand, leaving might not stop them from visiting and just leave them visiting unsupervised.

Both horrible thoughts. And excellent reasons to never get involved with people. They came to your nice house and bothered you. Ugh.

You know what Duke hadn't done in a long time? Beach yoga.

It was a sunny day, warm without being hot. The absolute picture of an early fall day. Duke was out on the sand with his mat, barefoot and wearing cropped pants and a tank top, working through a simple warm up flow.

He hadn't even tried a good inverted balance in a while. He was desperately out of shape!

Rey had never lived anywhere that made moving anything but a ten-minute activity, max. (For her stuff; getting the Resistance from base to base was a different story.) A lot of her personal items had sort of migrated over to Adrian's house over time, but there was still the matter of furniture. Or how to best move the Jedi texts and artifacts she'd collected. Sure, she could have Chewie store them, but she kept them with her specifically because of how often the Falcon got shot at, and maybe ancient things shouldn't live there.

Thanks to the Resistance she was more used to dealing with the personal aspect of this sort of thing, but she still didn't want to have the conversation. Therefore, she was taking advantage of the wall to work out some energy.

Watts was munching on the pumpkin candy he'd spent a good portion of yesterday stuffing his pockets with as he listened to the Troopers debate the merits of two different kinds of candy that apparently shared the same name.

"Doesn't that get confusing?" he asked Ralph.

Ralph shrugged. "Nah. The chocolate ones are pretty hard to find, apparently they're not made in this country at all," he said, tossing a box in Watts's direction.

"Huh," Watts said, opening the box and looking inside. "Chocolate beans."

Pumpkin-shaped candy soared through the air at a perfectly horizontal angle and struck a tree.

"Sssensational!" Dante called, landing on both feet on the grass. "Aw, still got it." Beside him, Ronin barked excitably, tail wagging. Kathy hadn't been lying; he really did take himself for walkies sometimes.

He'd been on the island for a month. He hadn't gotten laid and there hadn't been anything to fight. Even the thick blanket of tired that sat on Dante's shoulders most of the time couldn't muffle the ensuing jitters.

He was a physical guy. He also needed walkies.

"Your turn, Ronin," he said, beaming at the dog for one second. Then he dashed across the lawn at impossible speed, dodging candy on the way. "C'mon. Set me up!"

The dog barked again, happy, and reared up, swatting at a piece of incoming candy. Dante jumped, kicking out, and-- bam.

"Stylish, if I do say so myself!"

'Fun' was a big word for anything these days. But damn, was it nice to move.

Much like class earlier in the day, Octavia's shift at the Nest was looking a little rum-forward. It was mostly a coincidence: sure, Octavia had been thinking of focusing on a rum cocktail or two, but also there just seemed to be a lot more rum around than there tended to be most weeks.

So much so that it seemed like a good idea to make use of the specials board to make something clear to the local... population of journalists.

'This' was her latest shipment, an odd little device with no clues as to its provenance. It was funny; as a necromancer, Liliana came in contact with all kinds of substances, many of them foul and noxious, but she couldn't think of a single one that had invoked such a vigorous nope reaction in her as this thing did.

She set it in the window with a sign that said For sale--Cheap! on it, and then spent the rest of the day trying to get it just a little further away from her.

The model of Fandom island wasn't made of clay. That had been Gregorith's original idea because it was his preferred medium, but he realized it'd be too heavy, though he had used it to make the molds. It wasn't to scale precisely, and he'd made himself draw the line at those lights that turn on when you push a button to indicate certain locations. Instead he'd made a key and marked out places of current and historical interest. The places where the island had expanded for instance.

Currently heavily wooded areas like the Preserve were just painted green, but he figured if he wound up staying after his year was up, he might try to add little trees.

He'd been here all night setting it up in a convenient spot in the lobby, but he'd pulled all nighters before in far more stressful situations. So he felt confident he could still facetime with Angel as she plied his wares back in the Afterlife for the craft show.

He hoped Cthulhu liked the birdbath.

It was far too nice a day out to stay cooped up inside, so Remy and his cats had headed out to get some fresh air.

Well, Remy was here for fresh air. His cats were here for sunbeams and attempted flamingo murder.

"Ah, Lucifer," Remy called, from where he was sprawled on a handy bench, watching the feathers fly. "Careful, homme, I don't think you want to end up in the drink."

Lucifer (the cat) paid him no mind, pounced at a flamingo, and ended up waving his orange tail amongst the cattails lining one corner of the pond. He crawled back out, dripping, and sat down to groom himself as though going for a swim had been the plan all along.

Remy, Oliver, and Figaro exchanged glances. "Uh huh," Remy said. "Sure you did."

The museum got all sorts of catalogues that companies thought they'd be interested in. This week seemed to focus a great deal on ideas for children.

One about something called Bug Scouts got a rather clear vote of no from Blathers, so Steven put that one into the recycle bin.

Another was about interactive museum displays that encouraged little ones to learn. Steven took his time reading through that one. He didn't know if any of the ideas would get implemented in this museum, but if nothing else it was fun to imagine his and Llewellyn's possible children using such things.

Steven was, of course, interruptible should anyone need him.

Leda hadn't realized how much she'd missed Mooby's fries until she returned to Fandom and had them for the first time in...longer than she cared to contemplate. She'd felt only a little weird about first getting a burrito from the burrito place and then getting her drink and side from Mooby's.

She didn't feel guilty at all about using a bit of shield magic to keep the seagulls away while she enjoyed her dinner, and the cloudy fall weather. The food was good, but she still felt a bit moody, and appreciated the boardwalk and gloom for accommodating her. She liked strolling along, imagining herself in an old emo music video, and it amused her that at the same time she was eating.

"Maybe a Weird Al music video." she mumbled.

Kathy had her phone out, staring at a text string that had abruptly stopped one day. Well, not completely stopped. There were multiple messages from her after that last response. The first were concerned, leaning towards frantic, and then the slow realization that this number would probably never reach out to her again.

It hurt, the number of random disappearances from her life. The ones who left without an answer, a reason. At least in LA, if somebody stopped responding to your messages, you could just assume an ex had gotten them. In other places, it was just a lingering question with too many potential answers.

I miss you.

A stupid message to send, especially since she'd already accepted there would never be a response. But Kathy was aware she did many stupid things, and unlike most of those, this one was relatively harmless.

Message sent, she slid her phone back under the bar and went to stack more glasses. Tiny wasn't going to build the highest pyramid this week.
