The Emporium is Open -- Friday
Michael opens the shop, feeling a little better than he had the day before. Ben had spent the night wrapped around him, and it had been comforting to Michael.
The sign proclaiming "Salsa Sale" was still up, with jars stacked beneath it. Another sign stating "10% off -- Parents' Weekend Special" had been added, and there were a stack of Inara's business cards on the counter.

((ooc: Ben hasn't told Michael anything yet about the convo last night, except that Shane said "hi."))

"I'm doing better," Shane says deliberately, nodding. "Kate got back into town a couple of nights ago and we talked. Still trying to figure out what we can do for Halloween costumes. She's officially not allowed to pick mine, though." She chuckles.

It's good to hear you two are doing okay. As for halloween... *rolls eyes* I seem to have a talent for drag. I'm trying to get Ben to go as Rage -- that's my comic book hero -- but he's not jumping at the idea so far.

"Well, I told Kate I didn't wanna be anything scary or gross," she says. "She suggested teddy bear, puppy or... fish. Which is why she no longer has costume decision-making rights."

*runs through mental inventory* No, we don't. I can order one if it's not something you need right away. You taking up a new sport?
no subject
"Not new," she says, smiling as she shakes her head. "And not exactly 'sport' so much as... 'transportation'. The roads here aren't big enough for a car but it'd be nice to have some way to get from A to B a little faster
just in case we get anymore zombies. I used to surf and skateboard but I couldn't bring 'em with me when I came here. So..."no subject
*pictures Shane riding skateboard through town during zombie attack like a modern-day Paul Revere*

She rubs at her bottom lip with the pad of her thumb as she thinks. "Probably need a helmet, too, for emergencies. Not for every day, though."
Hmm... deck should be... standard... not too narrow or too wide... maybe I can find some ways to make alterations to the deck just in case we have any more out of town visitors...
It's obvious that, for a good minute or so, she's clearly off in her own world. After a moment, she looks up and offers Michael a slightly sheepish and apologetic smile. "Sorry. Um... maybe I can just write down what I need?" She says with a burst of laughter. "It'd probably be easier."

She chuckles. "With the extra leg, right?" She murmurs, grinning as she straightens up. "Okay, I think that's everything." She caps the pen and places it on top of the sheet of paper, sliding it over to Michael as she scratches her cheek. "If you can't find anything, just let me know. It's been a while, so some of those places might have stopped putting stuff out."

Have you talked to Geoff lately? How's he holding out? Paige told me they called things off, for a while anyway.

Did Ben tell you Geoff offered to help edit his book when it gets to that stage? Ben's thrilled
and would gladly woo Geoff given half the chance.no subject
"No, he didn't tell me," she says, smile broadening and brightening at the same time. "That's so cool, though. Geoff didn't mention it, either, but the past couple of weeks have been a little... y'know..." She makes a face.

"Just... let him know you're there," Shane suggests. "Not just to listen or worry about him, but... for him, y'know? Everybody needs that."
no subject
*nods* I'm trying. After all this time you'd think neither one of us would need reminders that the other is there, but that's not how it works, is it?
So how's Kate? Things okay between you two?
no subject
"Yeah," Shane says, nodding. "She got back from the mainland on... Wednesday? She, umm... she came to the diner and we talked for a while." Shane ducks her head a little. "It's like this... whole thing and... it's all new and strange and stuff. For both of us."

"But yeah... it's ... it's very nice," Shane agrees, nodding. To hear her talk, most people would probably think she wasn't excited or even particularly happy. But for the people who know her best, her subdued response is masking what is probably the world's biggest understatement, in her eyes.

Chuckling to herself a little, she shakes her hair out of her eyes as she gestures to the list. "So, uhh... I'm not sure how much all that's gonna run, but if you find everything all right, just gimme a call with a total before you place the orders and I'll come in and take care of it."
