Friday afternoon

Lana just needed to get away from the school for a bit - needed some time to think things over. She went down by the water and sat out on one of the rocks, staring out at the waves. She let the sounds soothe her, watching the repetitive motion of the waves.

After a while she pulls out a copy of "Bet Me" and settles down to read in the sunshine. She's more than willing to chat with anyone who stops by.

Maia was headed to the beach to think, after everything that had happened last night she was calming down now, it was really ok. She just would not let herself alone with Crowley again. He had simply brought out what she was already feeling.

Maia saw a familar dark haired figure on the beach. "Hey Lana." Maia steps her way carefully on the rocks to reach Lana's. "How are you?"

Lana looked up, shielding her eyes from the sun, and then smiles at her friend. "I'm good. Just figured I deserved some time to sit in the sun and read something frivolous. Please, come join me."

Maia sat carefully on the rock next to Lana. "Nice day." Maia watched the waves crashing around below them, the water rushing into the cracks then rushing back out. "I love the beach." Maia looked over to the side "Watch out there for a minute.." Maia pointed "There's going to be some sea lions poping their heads up in a few minutes." Maia smiled.

"We don't have anything like this in Smallville - a lake, sure, but this... it's so beautiful." A sea lion pokes it's head up and Lana points to it excitedly, "There! There's one!"

Maia laughs and Lana's excitment. "There is a mama close by to it, you don't usually see them but they are there just under the surface." Maia stared down at the waves again. "Tell me about Smallville, other then the obvious fact that it is small." Maia laughs watching out at the pups playing in the water.

"It's in Kansas, totally landlocked. They call it the meteor capital of the world. It is small, everybody knows everyone else. Which can be really nice sometimes and really annoying at others." Lana smiles. "I miss it."

Maia put her hand on Lana's back. "I am sorry you miss it." Strokes Lana's back. "I miss my home to sometimes. I miss the mountains a lot." She watched the waves for a while. "How are things with Justin?"

"It's okay. I like it here, too. The ocean especially." Lana looks out at the waves for a few moments. "Justin... I don't know. I didn't see him yesterday. I know he wanted to talk with another professor about the whole involvement with students thing." She sighed and watched the waves some more. "It will all work out one way or another. I do hope I see him sometime today, though."

Maia nodded thinking back to her talk with Justin yesterday. "Lana, I have to tell you something. I don't want to keep it from you because your one of my closest friends here and if you hate me afterwards you can but I just, well I can't not tell you."

Lana sets down her book and gives Maia her full attention. "Okay," she says curiously. "I can't imagine anything you could have done that would make me hate you, but... I'm listening."

Maia sighs heavily for a moment. "Well the thing is, before Sara and I broke up, well I was friends with Justin and well... we never really did anything but there was always this thing there between us that I never allowed to go anywhere when he would try to make it." Maia frowned. "I don't feel that way about him anymore but well, he and I have talked you know since then. He really likes you Lana and I promise that I will never do anything ever to come between you to." Maia says not sure how much she should reveal to Lana about the feelings she once had for Justin.

Lana looked thoughtful. "I seem to remember seeing the two of you together sometimes and I know he came to see you when you were first in that coma. He looked very distraught." She turned to Maia, "But I don't know why you would think I might hate you for that. Was there, *is* there something else? You can tell me anything, you know. And honestly, I'd rather know than wonder."

Maia bit her lip. "I saw him yesterday and we talked for a bit and you know we hashed things out. It really is for the best that we talked you know. I didn't want to be uncomfortable with around him and well, I was a little jealous of you the other night when you came in and you guys had kissed."

((OOC: does not want to tell about the kiss because she does not want Lana and Justin messed up. *smiles*))

"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable talking about Justin. If I'd known I would have been more... i don't know, *careful*, I guess. I'm glad you two were able to talk things out."

Lana hesitates and tries to pick her words carefully. "Maia... I get the sense that there's something you're not saying. And that's okay," she hurries to add. "But you and I both know that I wouldn't be upset by you talking to Justin, so..." She shrugs, "Just know I'm pretty good about finding out the story behind something before reacting. So unless you guys went and had hot sex and talked about what an incredibly naive loser I am..." she laughed, "I think we'd be okay."

Maia looks down at her hands for a long time then finally looked back up at Lana. "We didn't have sex and call you a loser." Maia said but she was not smiling. "We were talking and I got angry at him like I said and well.." Maia pauses still looking Lana in the eye. "We kissed." She said as soft as she could. "It wasn't a big kiss Lana and after we kissed we just sort of stood there and I said that I had missed my chance and that you were so much braver then me because you actually took it and now you have him." Maia finished waiting to see what Lana was going to say but she felt better for having told her.

Lana was quiet for a moment. "That sounds very sweet and kind of sad." She looked at Maia intensely. "You're sure I'm not getting in the way of anything between you and Justin? Because I wouldn't want to do that."

Maia smiled and held Lana's hand. "It's ok. I want you both happy." Maia stops and looks at the waves again. "I missed my chance Lana. Don't miss yours." Maia turned back and smiled at Lana now.

Lana smiled a little ruefully. "Well, it's not as if it's a done deal or anything, Maia. He's my professor and he's much older than I am, so..." She sat quietly for a minute. "But I'd like to give it a chance to see what happens. I certainly want to get to know him better."

Maia smiled and turned her attention to the waves again. "Want to go down further? We can let them hit us." Maia says contemplating the rocks below them. She gives Lana a wicked grin.

Lana grins. "We can take off our shoes and wade!" She slithers off the rock and down towards the sandy area below.

Maia follows her quickly as they head towards the water. Setting her shoes carefully next to Lana's Maia rolls up her jeans. "Be careful ok. The waves are a lot more powerful then they look." Maia grinned.

Lana walked cautiously into the water and gasped as the cold water hit her feet. "Oh! I didn't think it would be this *cold*!"

Maia laughs and takes Lana's hand. "Come on its ok. Once you get used to it." Maia laughs and leads Lana out further.

Lana wades out a little further, humming a little to herself under her breath and enjoying the feeling of being one with nature. It really is a beautiful world.
