Azriphale's bookshop: near sunset [NFB - open to Phale, Crowley, Angela, Marty

Eight hours later, and Parker's eyes were starting to cross. For every book that they'd found with Romanian in it, or Kalderash on the cover, there had been none with the spell.

"It's got to be here. Somewhere. Somehow...."

One last time, Parker went over the shelves, knowing that Marty had said it was there.

You could come back tomorrow, whispered her own exhaustion. What's the rush? He's gone. You can't stop him from doing anything this minute. One more night won't matter....

It might. To another Kitty. To someone else. Shut up. Where's the damn book? Parker tapped her fingers across the shelves, A to B, B to C, C to D....

A dark bound book, just like all the others. Small. Without enthusiasm, she pulled it out to check it. The title was in a language she didn't know; a small, inked note was included with it:

Being an inventorie of various spells, among the Gypsies known as Kalderash, Lakaush, and Dembeschti.

Oh. Oh, please....

[He leans against the shelf, an unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth.]

Hello, Parker. Is that glee I sense?

Shush, pet. [He looks up, sniffing the air. Purposefully, he walks to the shop door and closes it, holding his hand against it for a moment.]

Always, Parker. I live to answer to you. [He's only a little snide.]

Because when you curse someone you are intentionally stripping them of their free will, precious. Spells and blessings do something for the benefit of the recipient, whereas a curse...benefits the caster.

Yes, precious. If you accomplish your task, the soul that will live in the undead shell of the vampire will suffer torment, pain, and guilt until it returns from whence it came.

Deciding this might be a good point to put in a word on behalf of his 'side', Aziraphale says, "Angelus without a soul will never have the opportunity for atonement. There's no greater suffering we could subject him to right now than that."

No. No, I can't atone. Ever. [His voice is soft, and he turns swiftly and walks to the kitchen.]

"Forgive me, my dear. The atonement I'm speaking of was meant for the soul itself, the person whom Angelus once was. The demon residing inside him now..." He looks toward the kitchen "...is not the same sort as Crowley. And has, in my opinion, no honest claim on the body it's using."

"Miss Parker...Liam's soul was taken from his body before he had the opportunity to live out the life he should have had. There are very few mortals who have never done anything that might require atonement. Liam can never try to right any wrongs he's committed, can never ask forgiveness for anything he feels guilt over, because that ability has been taken away. It isn't Angelus's deeds I'm concerned with. It's allowing Liam to have the choices that are rightfully his."

Aziraphale nods. "Yes, it is harsh. That's very true. And the decision rests entirely among you and the others. Crowley and I can't tell you what to do, only what we think you should do."
