Hockey Squad Practice - Triple Deak Ice Rink (Wednesday NIGHT)

[OOC: Posted early to let everyone play.. and because I don't know if I'll be around 'tonight' FH-time to get it out.]

Kawalsky was the first to arrive, as usual. He checked in with Coach Bombay, opened up the equipment room, changed into a training jersey and skates and headed out onto the ice. They were going to start looking at positions now that people were starting to get the hang of skating.

Kawalsky skated around, warming up.

Once a bunch of people arrived, Kawalsky called everyone together. "Okay, today we're gonna work out positions. We talked about this earlier, but I kinda ~~spilled beer on~~ lost the notes I had. We've got a couple of different positions.

Offense has center, left wing and right wing. Centers take the face-off, wings do a lot of the puck-handling with the center.

Defense has left and right defense, plus the goaltender. Defense shove people around a lot and get the puck back to their team's offense.

Goaltender, or goalie, spends all the time in the net, catching and blocking the shots from the other team. Gotta have quick reflexes.

Team 1 needs a center, left wing, right wing, left defense, right defense and goalie.

Team 2 needs a center, left wing, right wing, left defense, right defense and goalie.

If you want a specific position, say so now. If you're not sure, say so too and we'll try you out somewhere."

Gordon took a seat in the stands towards the back so he could watch the practice.

"I don't know...is there a position where i don't have to brake to much and can just skate on, so to say?"

Ivanova sighs as she steps on to the ice and begins a controlled glide. She missed a couple of practices somewhere, which really wasn't so cool. She waved to Kawalsky as she began to skate more quickly, working out the mothballs.

John hits the ice, a little more confident in his skating after a few practices.

Rodney had heard about the ice rink and the hockey team practises, and figured he could find a bit of time to poke his head in.

At the least, he could do some heckling.

Jaye takes her usual seat to watch people fall down. She looks two seats over at Rodney. "Popcorn?" she offers.

"Never refused it yet," he says, leaning over, then pauses before taking a handful. "It's not lemon-flavoured, is it?"

She stares at him. "Who the hell would put lemon flavoring on popcorn?"

Callisto turns up after the newspaper meeting, and gets on the ice. Having mastered the art of not falling over every five seconds, she decides try and figure out how to get these things to go in the right direction.

"I don't know," Rodney says. "Weird people. Bizarre ones. This is Fandom: odd is normal. Besides, I'm deathly allergic to lemon."

He takes a handful of popcorn, then holds out his hand to be shaken. "Uh..." He holds out the other hand. "Rodney. Rodney McKay."

Elizabeth spotted Rodney as she headed towards the bleachers, and sighed.

At least there was someone else with him.

"No lemon here. I can leave 911 off my speed dial."

She shakes his hand awkwardly. "Jaye Tyler. So do you have a hockey thing, or a teenage boy thing?"

"Hockey thing. Definitely a hockey-- Do people around here really have teenage boy thi--?" He pauses. "Actually, no, I don't want to know the answer to that. Because I am a teenage boy. Or I look like one. Which is-- Never mind."

Rodney eyes Jaye. "So are you here for the hockey or the boys?"

"Oh-kay. I don't really care about the hockey, and the boys are cute but not really my type, but I do like to see people embarrass themselves," Jaye nods. "They do that a lot here. Keeps me interested."

Mindful of her temper the last time they met, Rodney just catches her eye and nods briefly.

"Rodney," she greets, her voice calm.

She takes a seat next to the other girl.

Rodney checks out the players skating - and, often, falling down - around the rink. "They're not too steady on their skates, are they? It's almost like watching the 'Scooby Doo show on ice'."

She giggles. "This is like their fourth week or something, too. They may need ice skating boot camp. Or a camera crew."

Jaye waves, holding up the popcorn bag. "Hey. Non-lemony popcorn?"

Elizabeth grins, and takes a couple of pieces. "Thanks. I'm Elizabeth, by the way."

"Jaye," she says, and hands over the bag for Elizabeth to hold. "Since you're in the middle, you have a job now."

Elizabeth grins. "I think I can cope with holding popcorn," she replies, popping another couple of pieces in her mouth. "I like that you came prepared."

"They need something," Rodney remarks. "Right now, I could give my housemate's mice the puck and they'd beat these guys. Assuming they didn't get squashed flat when someone fell down on them. Which is pretty probable looking at this lot."
