Red's Is Open

Still groggy from the cold medicine, Red was feeling at least well enough to open the shop. He wouldn't be doing any inking that day, afraid he was contagious and the last thing he needed was to pass on anything to a client.

After the drinking and stair descending lesson yesterday, the cubs were in quite good spirits and sat by the front window in the hopes their new friend would come by again, their ears flattening in disappointment whenever someone came in and it wasn't him.

Rolling up to the shop on her skateboard, Shane skids to a stop and picks up her board, tucking it under her arm. She knows that she should have been in here a few days ago, but things had been crazy since she'd gotten back, so she hadn't had time to come in and have Red check on her tattoo.

The cubs are glad to see Shane, even if they seem a bit distracted by looking out the window while twisting around her feet.

Red looked up from reading to see Shane and he smiled. "Hey! How was the vacation?"

"So amazing," Shane said, smiling broadly. Feeling something brush against her legs, she looked down and saw the cubs. "What's up with them?" She asked, giving Red a curious look.

Red snickered. "They met a playmate yesterday and they want him to come back."

He looked Shane up and down. "You look like it was amazing. Things were restful then? Get much surfing in?"

"Aww," Shane murmured, smiling at the two of them as she bent down and gave each of their heads a scratch. Stepping around them carefully, she approached the counter.

"Not much," she said, lips twisting slightly with disappointment. "It was really cold, even using this trick that Tara taught me, but... I think it'll be enough to hold me for a while."

"Well, at least you know where to go now that's close by when the weather does warm up." Red stretched out on the counter.

The cubs danced between Shane and going back to look out the window as if to ask her to go get their new friend.

"Yeah," she said, nodding. "It'll be nice, when the weather gets warm. Still, I had such a blast. Being with Tara is... just... the best thing."

((ooc: *is totally dead of cute*))

"So I see," Red beamed at Shane. This was the happiest she seemed in weeks and this pleased him. "I'm glad for you, Shane. You deserve it."

((ooc: *the cubs tackle Michael*))

Shane's smile was bashful as she ducked her head. As she did so, she caught sight of the jewelry in the display case, which caused her brows to furrow.

One of the last times she'd been in the shop had been to help Ten pick out a birthday present for CJ...

... birthday.

Something about it stuck in her head and wouldn't --

"Ohh, shit," she groaned, raking her free hand through her hair.

((ooc: *is now double dead from cute and from asphyxiation by cub fur*))

"Oh shit?" Red sat up. "Is something the matter, Shane?"

((ooc: Sure thing!))

(The player is finally awake. yay)

Duce wanders in, shivering from the cold. As the pups flatten their ears, she gives them a mournful look, "Aw.. you guys don't love us anymore?" .. and is promptly tackled by two big cubs. "OOf. Hi..aag, Caz, get your tail out of our mouth!.. Hi, Red."

Red grinned at Duce when she came in. "Hey. How's it going?"

"We're taking the day off from thinking, so thus far, it's going great!" Duce comments.

She wrestles with the puppies for a bit, "So why did the munchkins give us the 'not you' look when we came through the door?"

"They had a friend over yesterday and they want him to come back. They don't understand why he might not come to see them every day," Red said with a grin.

"They could call him and invite him?" Duce suggests, kind of confused. "So who's this friend? Didn't know there were any more really little'uns running around town."

((ooc: not a problem! still up for cuteness! anytime!))

"Cameron, from the school. He came by yesterday asking for some advice on making his current four legged existance a bit easier. The cubs took an instant liking to him," Red said with a shrug. "They don't understand that he still had school obligations."

((ooc: curses lack of LJ notifications))

"No... but, yeah," Shane murmured, her expression troubled. "Shit! Tara's birthday was... maybe a week or so after I first met her? Like, a month and a half ago? And she never told me about it. I didn't find out until after, when she asked me if I'd come to a little party she was gonna have to celebrate."

Letting her hand slip from her hair, Shane rested it on her shoulder, frowning. "Stuff happened and... we never got a chance to have the party. So I totally forgot to get her anything," she said, brows furrowing.

(OOC: *laughs* Cuz noone EVER comes in to play with the pups!)

Duce stops and stares at Red, "Cam's an animal? What the heck? Is there some sort of species plague going around? Lycanthromorphs are more common here than the normal human students are!"

Laughing, Red shook his head. "No idea. He's been turned into a wolf cub and needed some pointers. Does this happen at the school often?"

"Well I'm sure that she isn't holding it against you..." Red said with a bit of hopefullness in his voice. "She doesn't seem the sort."

Shane let out a ragged sigh and a fond smile curled her lips. "No," she murmured. "She's not the sort. I just... it was important and ... I should have remembered." She reached up and placed her hand flat on her chest, over her heart, as if placing the blame there.

"Think trying to fix it will make you feel more at ease?" Red asked.

Duce's head tilts up as though she's rolling her eyes, "Yeah, just about every other freaking day, someone turns into some form of animal. The Dean made an announcement this week that being turned into an animal is no longer an excuse to miss classes or homework. It's that common. There's even a student who's built translators for them. It's right up there with gremlin bites for the most common daily occurrance."

"Poor Cam, though. He's not one of the freaky magic users, so this must be kind of a shock." She pushes a snake away from her face and tussles the cubs, "Did you guys try to teach him to talk, or did you just play chase-and-pounce?"

"I know she'll forgive me, it's not about that," Shane said quietly. "I don't know, I guess it's just... when I made the promise to go to her party, we were only just getting to know each other and... now we're together and... everything that's connected to her feels so much more important, now."

Worrying on her lip, Shane tapped the fingertips of her free hand on the counter for a moment. "I need to get her something," she said.

"Something special and unique," Red's voice drifted off as he tried to think of something. He leapt down from his stool and padded over to his display case. "How about this (http://www.monkeyshinesbeadery.com/jewelry/necklaces/item11.html)?" he asked, pointing to a necklace all by its lonesome.

"He did play a bit of chase and pounce but mostly it was how to drink without drowning and how to get down the stairs." Red snickered. "A daunting task to be sure."

Trailing after Red, Shane took a look at the necklace he'd indicated. "It's beautiful," she murmured, nodding. She bit her lip, considering the necklace. "But... it's a little too glammy? For Tara, I mean. It needs to be ... something delicate and simple... but... beautiful, too."

"Maybe something like this (http://www.gryphonsmoon.com/cat/jewelry/rings/dainty-onyx-ring.jpg)?" She said, pointing to a ring in another case. "I don't know much about stones, though. Maybe black's not a good color to go with."

"That's lovely. I think she would love it," Red said. He pulled the tray out that held the rind so Shane could get a closer look at it.
