The Perk

Janet ordered her mocha with extra espresso and extra whipped cream, then went to sit down and wait for Aeryn.

OOC: Intended for Janet and Aeryn to interact, but please use for a general Perk post as well.

Upon walking in, Aeryn orders the usual black coffee, though in a distinctly larger size for once, and takes a seat at Janet's table. "Hi."

A few months ago, the phrase "how's it going?" would have completely confused her, but at this point Aeryn can just shrug and say, "It could be worse. What about you?"

"The Criminal Justice final was the last thing I had to do," she says. "I assume from now until January I have nothing to do, then?"

"I really have no idea," Aeryn admits. "I'm not going anywhere, so I'm probably sure to get a lot of time in at the gym. Other than that... I don't really have plans."

"Well, with the Pyramid trial thing over, it should be more available," she says, sipping her coffee. "And I doubt everyone will be staying over to use it."

Chloe stands behind the counter, sipping at her coffee as she straightens things up a bit.

Sorry to piggyback here, but I haven't sent Chloe to work in a while. *g*

Aeryn frowns. "Why self-conscious?" she asks.

Later that afternoon...

Angela orders a Chai latte and settles into a booth with her notebook at hand, waitting for Dr. Pierson and the Doctor.

[The Doctor is looking better, not to mention slightly more cheerful, than he had last week. His nose is still stuffy, but he doesn't have to excuse himself with a Kleenex every two minutes.
He smiles at Angela and gets a double macchiato before settling in across from her.] Ms Chase. Hello.

[Methos trots in and grins at the Doctor.] Nice to see you upright and mobile. Hi, Angela. [He gets a Christmas hot chocolate -- stirred with a candy cane -- and sits down with them.]

Angela smiles sympathetically. "Hi, Doctor. You look like you're getting over the same cold I had," she says.

"So I'm not sure if Dr. Pierson told you, but we're supposed to get different perspectives on the holidays from, like, students and staff."

"Hey, Dr. Pierson. I was just telling the Doctor why I asked you to meet me. Thanks again, by the way."

Thanks, love. Nice to see you indulging your sense of whimsy. [He smiles at Adam, then turns back to Angela.] Aye, I think so. This one was bloody painful, but I don't think I did myself much good by not staying in bed for the whole week. I had...a project that couldn't wait.

As for the holidays...the winter ones, yes? I'm not sure how much I can tell you about holidays in the future, I'm afraid. Screws up the timeline. But I've done plenty in the past.

Methos drops one hand on Ten's shoulder and facepalms. He's not entirely certain Angela has a good idea of the weirdness sitting at the table with her.

Angela's sense of weird has been recalibrated by the past semester, so her surprise at the Doctor's offhand comment about the future barely registers on her face. She can get back to that.

"The winter ones," she says slowly, hand brushing a piece of hair back. "And past is fine. We're supposed to talk about traditions, so ... past."

"What holidays did you celebrate growing up?"

[The Doctor, still a bit dazed from cold medicine, is oblivious to the fact that Angela would have no idea that he...isn't from around here. And while talking about Gallifrey is hard, he doesn't want to scare the girl. So while a brief flash of pain crosses his expression, it's replaced by a slight smile.]

Well. I grew up fairly rich, and so when I was young, before I went to the Academy, my parents would throw a rather lavish party at mid-winter. [He squints, thinking back.] We didn't really call it anything but mid-winter, as I recall, but there was always a lot of food, and dancing. Very formal. I didn't much enjoy the bowing and hand-kissing and courtly dances. After, when my parents would sink into chairs, drink too much Talelian bubblewine, and talk about all the people who had just left. They...talked to me like I was an adult, then, which was my favourite part.

"Sounds like these holiday parties my friend Sharon's family would have back home," Angela says. "Where did you grow up?"

She's starting to get the feeling there's more to the Doctor than she's heard. For example, she wonders if the rumor about him living in a phone booth in the park isn't just a rumor.

[He smiles charmingly at her. It's cute. Ridiculously so.] The south-west of the planet Gallifrey, which was... [he cocks his chin up and his eyes travel towards the ceiling in thought as he does the math] about ten million lightyears and two hundred thousand years away. [There is a pause.] It isn't, anymore...it doesn't exist, I'm afraid. But that sort of celebration was de rigeur for mid-winter.
