Angel's study group, in the sewers, night
| The sewers were their usual damp, dark, and the last place any sane person would be. Of course they were trying to track down Darla and Dru so really that final part was just a bonus. Angel was out front. Part of his attention was on his group. Most of it was on everything else his senses were telling him. They were near the hotel which meant he should be picking up on Dru and Darla any second now. |
|
| Cameron followed closely behind Angel, he could barely make anything out in the dark and the echoes did nothing to help his nerves. He took a deep breath and his fingers tightened their grip around the hilt of the sword he was carrying. | |
| "Not hearing heartbeats," Angel said, quietly. | |
| Cameron frowned. "I thought that was the point of being dead?" He whispered back. | |
| "No victims," Angel translated. "That I can hear. Yet." | |
| Cameron decided not to point out that this left them as only bait. | |
| "Considering what we're looking for that doesn't really reassure me," Callisto's sword was still in its scabbard, but she kept her hand near the hilt anyway. | |
| Angel thought, but did not say, that at least this way they wouldn't have to worry about keeping anyone alive besides themselves. For a reply, he restricted himself to a nod. |
|
| "Y'know, I never thought I'd miss that month we spent camped in the Stymphalian swamps," Callisto muttered to herself and grimaced. "This place always smell like this, or are we just lucky?" | |
| "Imagine it with my nose." | |
| "Okay, I can get the stronger thing and the healing thing. Maybe. But superior nose?" Cameron shook his head and stopped dead as something slipped past his legs. | |
| "Poor baby. I don't suppose we have to worry about them smelling us over this, do we?" | |
| "You're made of blood," Angel said, as though that was an answer. He stopped. "Rats." | |
| "Figurative or literal?" | |
| "Literal," Cameron kicked out at something. | |
| "At least they're only rats," This didn't stop Callisto from kicking away any that were stupid enough to come near her. "Could be a lot worse." | |
| "Except that we're looking for worse," Cameron pointed out and breathing through your mouth really didn't help with the smell. | |
| "You've got a point," Callisto quickly checked to make sure their rear was still clear. "Still the vamps will only want to kill us if they find us, trust me, there are worse fates." | |
| "Joy," because really this was what he needed to hear while walking through stinking, nearly pitch black sewers while hunting for vampires. | |
| "Hey, if you die, we're the ones who are going to have to explain to Vala, in which case you're getting off the easiest." | |
| "Nobody's dying tonight except vampires," Angel said. If he was aware that statement possibly included himself, he didn't seem overly bothered by it. | |
| "Nobody on our teams is dying," Cameron corrected. | |

There's a cell phone crackle and Marty's voice comes over the headset "Crunchwolf! We got an issue. Deadboy's boyfriend wasn't affected by the tranqs like we thought he would. He's shimmered out and I have no idea where he is." |
| Cameron cursed and quickly relayed the message to Angel. "Understood, Ferret. We'll keep an eye open for Deadboy's boyfriend. If we can't stop him from contacting Stabby and Whammy, we'll need the extra manpower here. We're still in the rathole on our way to the nest." |

"Roger that. I'll be there faster than BongoGirl can shimmy out of her leather armor. Ferret Out" |
| Angel simply folded his arms and stared at Cameron. | |
| Cameron didn't really notice the staring as it was dark. "Ferret's on his way faster than BongoGirl can shimmy. Uh, Marty's on his way." | |
| "When we're done?" Angel said, to nobody in particular, "I'm getting drunk. Just for the record." | |
| "Good, you're paying." Cameron declared because after going around sewers, he'd need one too. | |
| "BongoGirl?" Callisto shook her head. "Why did we allow you guys to come up with the codenames again?" | |
| Logan, jaw clenched, held his crossbow in front of him, cocked, loaded, and pointed towards the ground. He followed Callisto. His eyes were adjusting enough to make out shapes in the darkness but he couldn't make out anything distinct yet. | |
| "Too much to hope he managed to shimmer himself into a wall, I suppose?" Callisto drew her sword. "Frakking emodemon." | |
| "Hey," Angel said, as though suggesting a movie they could all see later, "if he's not in a wall now, I bet we could put him in one." | |
| "You bring the bricks, I'll bring the mortar." | |
| Alanna followed behind, ignoring most of the talking and keeping a tight grip on the crossbow. Lightning was on her right hip, within easy reaching distance in case of any close-up fighting. | |
| Cameron stopped walking, ignoring whatever the others were saying for a moment he thought he picked up on some sort of noise. "Guys, did you..." | |
| Something moved in the shadows. Then it jumped out and body-slammed into Cam. | |
| The impact was enough to send Cameron and the vampire, because he highly doubted that was another rat, right into the wall. His head connected with the brick and he could feel the earpiece slip. There wasn't much he could do to stop it as he tried to push the vampire off with one hand while hacking into its right side with his sword. | |
| The sound changed as the earpiece slipped and she heard the sounds of a fight. She knew better than to divert Cameron's concentration by asking for a situation report, though. She could tell what the situation was, and it sucked. |
|
| The vamp screamed in pain, and lashed out again, one fist aiming for Cam's jaw. | |
| Cameron's head slammed back, connecting with the wall he was still pushed up against. He grabbed the vampire by his throat and tried to push him away from him while dropping the sword and reaching for the holy water handgun he had tucked away in his belt. Praying this would work, he aimed at the vampire's face. | |
| The vampire screamed again as the holy water burned half his face. He grabbed Cam's wrist around his own throat and used it as leverage to pull himself closer, teeth aiming for Cam's neck. | |
| That definitely wasn't what he had been aiming for. He needed room and kneed the vampire while shoving the muzzle of the gun in its mouth. | |
| The vampire stumbled back a few steps. Something turned under his foot with a crunch and he lost his balance, falling to the ground. | |
| "Shit," Sam said, as all she heard from the comm was static. "Cameron? Cameron!" She turned to the room, "We've lost Angel's team." |
|
| Within a second, Cameron was moving. He grabbed his sword from the ground and jumped forward. Using all his might, he swung it down on the vampire's neck. | |
| The vampire's head rolled from its neck -- briefly, before first the body and then the head exploded into dust. | |
| "Cool," Cameron panted and looked up to where the others were already engaging Darla and her minions. He reached for his earpiece, then remembered he lost it earlier. Suddenly, the crunching noise made sense and he cursed. Sword and gun in hand, he jumped right back into the fray. | |
| As Cameron struggled with his vampire, Darla stepped out of the shadows, her game face on. A cluster of random vampires were behind her. "Well, well. Where are the pitchforks and torches?" | |
| "Must have left them with our other mob," Callisto drawled, her lazy tone at odds with her body langauge. | |
| On Callisto's left, a vampire jumped at her, growling in manic fury. | |
| Callisto's sword swung in a neat arc at the vampire's chest as she spun to face it. | |
| The vampire screeched and reared back, taking a cut across its shoulder before moving to leap at Callisto from behind, going straight for her neck. | |
| "Great," Callisto snarled, as she attempted to backhand the vampire with her swordpommel, pulling out a stake with her free hand. | |
| The vampire growled as Callisto hit it and made to claw at her shoulder, going for her neck from another angle. | |
| Callisto managed to turn around enough to get a good angle on the vampire, then stabbed towards its heart with the stake. | |
| The vampire screamed and turned to dust as Callisto's stake connected. | |
| Logan swung his crossbow up and fired at Darla. | |
| Darla laughed and ducked out of the way. "Oooo, pretty boy. Didn't I hurt you enough to put you down?" | |
| How about you try hurting me then?" Angel suggested. | |
| "Any time, lover." Darla gestured at one of the vampires behind her. | |
| At her motion, a vampire growled and jumped at Angel. | |
| "Yeah, that does hurt," Angel said. He didn't even bother with his sword, instead aiming a hard punch directly to the vamp's face. "Used to be you were more hands-on with me." | |
| "Used to be that you came to hurt me all by your lonesome. You brought friends, and I brought... well. I'm just curious who's going to die faster -- your friends or mine?" | |
| Angel's punch snapped the head of the vampire back, and he lost his momentum, fading back into the shadowy pack. | |
| Angel grabbed a stake out of his pocket and threw it at the heart of one of the vampires. "I pick yours." | |
| With an unearthly cry, the vampire dusted. | |
| Darla shrugged. "We weren't close." | |
| Without skipping a beat, Angel lifted his sword and went after Darla. | |
| "Overcompensating much?" Darla purred. | |
| "Let me complete the Freudian imagery then," Angel said. He swung right for her. | |
| Darla stepped inside the range of the swing to avoid the bladed part, and put her hands on Angel's chest, looking up at him. "And sometimes a sword is just a sword. You staked me once. Remember? Thrust into me and watched my body disintergrate. I remember the look on your face in that moment. I carried it with me into the darkness. You didn't want to kill me. Do you really want to now?" | |
| "You don't know what I want," Angel said. He shoved her away, then turned to aim a kick at her chest. | |
| Darla took the kick in the chest, but managed to grab Angel's foot. With a fanged grin, she twisted the foot she held as hard as she could. | |
| Angel followed the twist, jumping into the air so that he could turn his entire body around and regain control. Unfortunately, he had to drop his sword to the ground in order to do that. Fortunately he had plenty of weapons left to choose. When he landed on his feet he already had a stake at the ready, and threw it right at Darla. |
|
| She threw herself to the ground to avoid the stake. While down, she felt for the sword Angel dropped. | |
| Angel aimed a kick right for her head. | |
| Darla rolled to the side, and got to her feet, sweeping the sword in front of her. "Thank you for the weapon. I thought about bringing a gun, but they're so noisy, you know." Grinning, she aimed a low chop to his right knee. | |
| Angel leapt over the attack. "You are getting old, Darla. Used to be that you'd remember - " Angel game faced " - we don't need those." | |
| Darla swung again, aiming for his arm. She didn't want him dead, so she avoided vital areas. "It's not about need. It's about want. I want to shoot some of the little humans you've brought down here." | |
| Angel caught the blade in his hand. Yes, it hurt. The trick was not minding that it hurt. "I want this over." | |
| Logan swore as he reloaded the crossbow after taking a shot at Darla | |
| Another vampire grabbed for Logan's arm. | |
| Alanna aimed carefully at the vampire and sent a crossbolt at it. | |
| Focusing on Logan, the vampire didn't notice Alanna. He roared in pain as the crossbow bolt hit, but didn't dust. Instead, he swung around to face Alanna and leaped for her. | |
| Logan fumbled as the vamp grabbed him, but when it turned away, he got the crossbow loaded, turned, and fired at its back. | |
| Alanna drew Lightning with her left hand and lashed out with it at the vampire that was now focused on her. | |
| The vampire was not too bright. Distracted by being shot in the back -- but not dusted, again -- it turned back and jumped at Logan, trying to close the space between them and make the crossbow irrelevant -- and make Logan dead. | |
| Not pausing to think about the vampires sudden change in goal, Alanna aimed a lash from Lightning for its neck. | |
| The vampire, intent on Logan, didn't notice the sword swinging. His head toppled from his neck, joining its body in a pile of dust on the ground. | |
| Marty was making his way through the sewers, unsure of where he was heading exactly until he started to hear the sounds of fighting ahead of him. He pulled out a stake from the ankle holster that Sam had made and his 9mm from his shoulder holster and then rushed ahead to catch up with the group. |
|
| A vamp got thrown aside and landed at Marty's feet. He looked up, snarled, and jumped to his feet. | |
| "This must be where the party is," Marty muttered as he lunged towards the vampire with his stake. | |
| The vamp jumped back from the stake, and aimed a double-fisted blow to the side of Marty's head. | |
| Marty tried to duck but didn't take into account the vampire's speed. The blow hit Marty square in the head and he stumbled back a few steps his ears ringing. He quickly shook his head and got into a more defensive posture. He kept his gun low and beckoned to the vamp with his stake hand. "C'mon ugly. Let's see what you got." |
|
| The vampire smiled at him and lunged. | |
| Marty waited a half second before pointing his gun at the vamp and letting loose with a couple of rounds, hoping it might slow him down a bit, and then attacked with the stake. | |
| The gun shots made the vampire stumble back a few steps, and not notice Marty bringing the stake into the battle. | |
![]() |
Marty pressed forward with his attack and aimed the stake to the center of the vamps chest. |
| The vamp looked down at the stake growing from it's chest, and then snarled at Marty as it disintergrated into dust. | |
| Intent on not letting another vampire come that close again, Cameron aimed his holy water gun level with one of the vampire's eyes and held his sword at the ready in case it went for a close encounter. | |
| Another vampire grabbed the arm holding the sword and used it to fling Cam into a wall | |
| Cameron stiffened as the vampire grabbed hold of his arm, he tried to wrench away but was flung hard into the wall and cried out in pain as he felt something in his shoulder snap. He had the sense to fire his gun somewhere in the direction of the vampire, but as pain shot through him he had no clue where he was aiming. | |
| A scream indicated that some of the holy water had connected. | |
| Hearing a shout of pain, Marty looked up to see the wounded vampire approaching Cam who looked injured. Marty raised his 9mm and squeezed off a few rounds at the vamp and ducked down immediately after he heard one of the bullets riccochet off the wall. |
|
| Cameron ducked, holding his uninjured arm over his head. "Whoa!" He shouted at Marty. "Bullets bounce, man!" | |
| Marty cursed under his breath and slipped the gun back in the holster. "Sorry Man! You all right?" Marty asked as he pulled out a stake and began to circle the vampire. |
|
| "Nothing lethal," Cameron ground out and giving up on wielding a sword he aimed his gun at the vampire again. | |
| The vampire leapt forward, its attention on Cameron and knocking the gun out of his hands. | |
![]() |
Marty rushed forward and attempted to stab the vampire through the back with the stake. |
| At the same time, Cameron quickly drew out his own stake and tried to plunge it into the vamps chest. | |
| Being stabbed from two different angles? Not so much fun. With a final, agonized screech, the vampire turned to dust before their eyes. |
|

Marty coughed a bit as he inhaled some of the vampire dust, but managed to give Cam a grin. "Nobody. I mean *nobody* messes with the 2nd floor man." |
| Cameron waved the hand with the stake around as he got covered in vampire dust. "We'll kick their ass," he said as he bend down to pick up his sword. |
