Alfred sets up the tables, puts out the flowers, and tells the chefs to start making a few things even before people come in to have them.

Alfred is a Butler-fu master. As such, he has special powers far beyond the ken of mere mortals. And most immortals as well.

One of these is to select something he thinks you'd like before you order. And he, in all likelihood, will be right.

The Baron decides to take a break from his ever-growing stack of reports and decides to drop by Cafe Fina for lunch and maybe try the trout. But he's sure that Alfred already knows that.

Indeed he does. And not only is the trout waiting for him, but with appropriately sized silverware.

"I thought you might be coming around," Alfred said, placing the tray on the table.

"Ah, Alfred, you never fail to amaze me," the Baron murmured, his nose twitching at the delicious smell. "I needed to see a friendly face. But a friendly platter of fish is perhaps just as welcome."

"Long day?" Alfred asked, pouring out a cup of tea.

"One of those bad longer by an excess of bad news," the Baron sighed. "I have that feeling one gets that everything is falling apart as soon as one leaves it alone for a moment." He took a bite of his fish. "Could I have a spot of that tea?"

"Of course, but you'll still have to pay for it," Alfred said, pouring out a smaller cup. "From Ceylon. What's falling apart?"

"Peace," the Baron said simply. "~~In 2006, war was beginning.~~ In the old lands of magic, militias and guardhouses are becoming armies. I am deeply worried by the reports I'm getting."

"Oh dear," Alfred said, pushing the cup towards the Baron. "War is coming to the Kingdom of Cats? Who is the agressor?"

"Thankfully the Kingdom has not yet been dragged into the conflict," the Baron replied, taking the cup with a small nod of thanks. "There are more places of magic in this world that I suspect even your contacts cannot reach."

Alfred smiled as he blew on his tea. "It wouldn't suprise me in the least. May I be so bold as to ask that you enlighten me, or is it something my kind is not meant to know about?"

"I would gladly tell you everything, my friend," the Baron replied seriously, "But I cannot know who else I would be telling. No offense meant, but there is a reason they have survived this long. It's a place of demons, witches, wizards, flying castles, floating islands. And very soon a place of fire." He takes another sip of tea.

"Very serious indeed," Alfred said. "How does the Kingdom of Cats plan to respond? Are you worried that the trouble may find its way here?"

"I believe Lune will try to stay out of the conflict as long as he can," the Baron replied. "The Kingdom has long been autonomous enough that it can afford impartiality. And while usually I wouldn't worry, the unique make-up of Fandom makes it possible that, as you say, trouble may find its way here."
