As Alfred set out the tables, he started to wonder if maybe he was spending too much time in the restaurant. He ought to get out more. Perhaps he could alter the hours? No, that would break a promise he had already made.


Maybe he should think about hiring more help.

Angela stands in the vestibule of the restaurant, waiting for Broots a little nervously.

At least she looks cute, right?

Angela is here for a bad date, so she'd like something with a messy sauce. Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, and red wine. (If he'll serve wine to minors. Iced tea if he won't.)

Also, are there candles on the tables?

Depends on the age of the minors in question. Alfred operates under English rules. Which means, since they're eating, he'll give it to them if they're over 16.

And yes, there are candles.

If Angela was nervous, it was nothing compared to what Broots felt. He walked into the restaurant, double-checking his watch to make sure he was on time. Of course, this led to a meeting of his nose and the door. He had thoughtfully brought a bouqet of tulips for Angela.

Spotting her, he made his way over.

Unfortunately, Angela is allergic to tulips. She tries to hide her sniffle as she reaches out her hand for the bouquet.

"Hi," she said. "You look nice."

"Thanks, so do you." Broots blinked for a moment before handing the flowers over. "Um, these are for you, I uh, hope you like them. Um, you look really nice."

"Thanks," Angela said, blushing. She held the tulips awkwardly, keeping them a little away from her nose. Maybe then she won't sneeze...

"Pretty color," she said. "Should we ... I don't know if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone."

"Please, feel free to seat yourselves," Alfred said, suddenly appearing at Angela and Broots' elbows.

Angela blinked. This isn't the reaction she expected.

"That's fine," Angela said uncertainly. She points randomly into the dining room. "That table looks good," she said, finger aimed at a small table near the window, set with candles.

Broots was still starring at the man who had suddenly appeared next to him. "Um, yes, let's sit down?" Broots politely offered Angela his arm.

Angela took his arm with the hand that wasn't holding the flowers.

Unfortunately, her heels slipped a litttle on the floor, and she tripped, landing on her knees while still keeping a death grip on Broots' arm.

Broots managed to stay standing up, mostly because he had grabbed on to a nearby piece of furniture, but now the probability of him staying up was going down by the minute. "Are you, ugh, all right?"

"Fine," Angela said, rubbing her knee as she rose to her feet. "Just a little ....ahCHOO!"

In standing, she had brought the tulips a little too close to her nose. She quickly took a seat, purse on the edge of the table, flowers safely tucked out of the way.

"So this looks like a nice place," she said. "All the ... candles, and everything."

Broots nodded, trying to discreetly rub the spot where Angela had clung to him. "It is. I think it's new. Or at least, I haven't seen it before. Which I guess doesn't really say much."

"No, I'm pretty sure it's new. Or at least it wasn't her when Marty and I were going out. Or at least he, like, never took me here." She paused and flashed a quick smile "Sorry. I promised myself I wasn't going to talk about him."

"So, um, how are you?"

Alfred appeared, this time a little less suddenly, with two covered plates. He set them on the table. "The chef reccomends the spaghetti with his famous marinara sauce. He reached behind him to a tray he had rested on another table and brought around a basket of garlic bread. "Can I bring you anything to drink?" he asked. "Some red wine, perhaps?"

"Um, I'm pretty good. My computer sort of nearly imploded. Which is why I had to cancel our uh, first, uh date? Yeah, kinda spent a lot of time working on that. Had a test today. You?" Broots glanced around for a waiter. Or a menu. Or a clue.
