Serenity Cove - Sunday Evening [before Sunset]

After moving their belongings back to the dorms, Veronica and Archie set out for a picnic on the beach.

Archie scouted around for a suitable location and set the picnic basket down on a flat rock. "This seems like a nice location, don't you think? Nice and relaxing after moving our things back to the dorms."

"It looks good to me," Veronica replied, spreading out a blanket for them to sit on.

"And relaxing sounds wonderful after hauling all that stuff through the woods back to the dorms."

Archie took off his coat, then fixed them each a paper plate of food from the picnic basket before stretching out on the blanket. "The one advantage to being on the first floor, I suppose, after such a long walk."

Veronica poured drinks while Archie was getting the food out and then laid on her side next to him.

"It definitely beats climbing all those steps to the attic," she agreed. "And I'm pretty happy to have a door that locks again."

"But you still miss the attic, don't you?" he asked, smiling up at her.

"A little, yeah," Veronica admitted, picking at some of her food. "I liked living with Chloe and Piper. I hope my roommate when I go to college is half as cool as they are."

Clark idly wondered what his life would have been like had his ship landed in a coastal town rather than Smallville.

With pant-legs rolled up, he stood in the surf letting the waves get his shins wet, as his feet slowly were buried in the sand.

Archie ate a mouthful or two and then reached over and took Veronica's hand. "Perhaps in a different way," he said encouragingly. "I've never met Chloe, and Piper only briefly, but they do seem like wonderful people. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, shall I?"

Veronica smiled at him. "I would appreciate that," she said, squeezing his hand. "Besides, you and Piper will both be pretty close by, so even if all the people at my new school suck, I'll still be able to hang out with you guys."

Joxer wasn't coordinated enough to have a proper picnic basket prepared for his own date. He instead had a large loaf of bread tucked under one arm, a bottle of wine in one hand, and some apples haphazardly gathered in his other.

He hoped Kaylee would show up soon. He was afraid he might drop all his gathered foodstuffs if he waited too long.

Kaylee was a little nervous as she approached the beach. But she grinned happily when she spotted her date. "Hi Joxer."

Archie raised her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. "You know I'd like that. Although I'm sure they can't all be horrible, can they?"

He chuckled. "Granted, I don't think there will be gnomes or dancing lemurs, but it can't be that bad."

Joxer waved the hand that was still holding the wine. "Hi Kaylee," he said. "I didn't think about getting us a blanket or something to sit on. Sorry."

"It'll probably be downright boring after a year in Fandom," Veronica laughed. "And, no, even in Neptune not everyone sucked, so I'm sure there will be a few decent people."

She ran her thumb across his lips. "But it'll be nice to have friends nearby, nonetheless."

"That's alright. I brought one," Kaylee said, indicating the blanket she was holding. She looked around. "It's a nice night, huh?"

Archie smiled. "I can definitely agree with that sentiment. I'm going to have so much to learn before I leave. I'm glad you're so patient with me."

"Very nice," Joxer said. He actually wasn't wearing his armor tonight, just a tunic, pants, a vest, and his boots. "Want to go closer to the water, or just stay back a bit?"

Veronica shrugged. "You're a good student," she replied. "And I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for you being here."

"I may not be any good at using the phone yet, but I'm better than I was when I got here," Archie laughed. "One adapts, when one has to. And I've had ample time to get over the initial shock."

"You have mastered google," Veronica pointed out with a grin. "And the phone isn't that scary. Maybe we'll get you a cell phone like mine. That way I can teach you how to use it. And if you get the same service provider I have, we can talk anytime we want without using up our minutes."

"We can stay back and just kinda watch it right now," Kaylee said. "And then move closer later."

"With both of us being in strange new places, that would be a good thing," Archie said. He leaned over and gave Veronica a quick kiss, then chuckled. "I'd never have imagined, a few months ago, that I'd even be considering this as a possibility."

"Well, could you put the blanket down?" Joxer bit his lip. "My left hand is starting to cramp up, holding onto these apples."

Veronica pushed her plate out of the way and scooted closer to Archie.

"How come you don't want to stay here and finish school?" she asked. "Not that I'm complaining, it'll be nice having you close, but you never really said."
