A group of zombies (who may have looked suspiciously like the zombie band at Caritas moonlighting as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers) were tuning their instruments and getting ready for the dance contest.

Vince smoothed back his hair, checking it in the camera lens and perfectly arranging every soft blonde strand before bouncing exuberantly onto the stage.

"Hi, kids! Hey, it's great being here at Fandom High." He winked at one of the girls by the stage. "What's your name, sweetheart?"

Vince bounced back on stage, beaming from ear to ear.

"Thank you, fans and friends and odds and ends. And now for you gals and guys, a few words to the wise. You Jims and Sals are my best pals. And to look your best for the big contest, just be yourselves and have a ball. That's what it's all about, after all. So, forget about the camera and think about the beat. We'll give the folks at home a real big treat. Don't worry about where the camera is, just keep on dancin', that's your biz. Hey, if I tap your shoulder, move to the side. Let the others finish the ride!"

He bounced towards Camera 2 as things got rolling. "Hello. Welcome to National Bandstand, coming to you live from Fandom High School. This is the event you've all been waiting for, the National Dance-Off. And away we go with Johnny Casino and the, uh, Zombies."

Eugene was very proud of his work on the decorations. The crepe paper streamers were evenly spaced and the balloons shaped like hearts were a magic touch.

Now he just hoped no one would wreck them.

Sonny was at the dance for two reasons. One, he needed to find Marty and see how much cleavage she's got hanging out of her dress. Two, he needed to find the punch bowl. He's got a flask full of vodka and it's ready to be dumped.

"I'm so nervous," Sandy confided to Danny as they got to the park.

"Don't worry, you'll do great," Danny assured her. His attention was elsewhere though.

"Thanks," Sandy smiled as she looked around, not noticing his distraction. "Patty and Eugene did a really good job, huh?"

With the cameras and Vic Fontaine taken in, Danny returned to being cool, calm and collected. He turned his attention back to Sandy. "Hm?" He caught on to her referring to the decorations. "Oh yeah. Great. Looks just like those National Bandstand schools on television."

"Doesn't it?" She smiled, very obviously thinking that this was a good thing. "Thank you so much for asking me, Danny."

Danny led Sandy out onto the makeshift dance floor. He started doing some kind of rhythmic movements that passed for 1950s dancing, but he certainly was not the natural that everyone thought he was.

Sandy tried to follow his lead, impressed. She could almost keep up, but he was a much better dancer. "Have you ever considered dancing professionally?"

Danny laughed, then realized that Sandy was being serious. "Yeah, sometimes. First I've gotta get through high school."

Danny's ego was expanding exponentially. Given enough time, it would overrun Fandom. He grinned and picked up the pace with the dancing, throwing in a few flashy moves. He was having a good time.

Sandy was very impressed by the dancing as she followed along. This was the boy she remembered, and all that other stuff that she'd seen and that Rizzo had told her, well, that was just silly.

Jan looked around the dance.

"Wow!" she breathed around the wad of gum she was chewing. "It's magical!"

ChaCha watched from the sidelines, then strutted over to dance next to Danny-- a lot more easily than Sandy was.

Which would be because Sandy had yet to learn what her hips were for. She danced with Danny happily, not noticing Cha Cha.

ChaCha had a *very* good idea what hips were for, as well as everything else. 'Hand Jive' started pushing that "not dirty" envelope as soon as she got closer to Danny. She smirked over at Sandy, and stepped up her tempo.

Yeah, that's ChaCha, walking in and looking like she's already been booted from juvie hall.
