Stuff for Sale: Thursday After Classes

After classes, Peter and Bridge walked down to town to put Operation Menorah into action.  It was a very, very top secret and highly important mission.  One that had to be carried out in a proper and timely manner.

Peter pushed open the door to Stuff for Sale.  "Very well, tell me again why they're used?"

[OOC: Yay open store with holiday stuff of all kinds!]

"After the Maccabees defeated the Syrians, they wanted to rededicate the Temple and light the menorah there, but there was only enough oil for one day. But somehow, that tiny little bit of oil lasted for eight days," Bridge explains.

Bridge follows Peter's gaze. "I can see all different types of candles over there," Bridge points. "Maybe that aisle would be a good place to start looking."

Bridge stares at the turkeys. "...In the sense that people eat them, I guess?" he suggests.

"You have a point," Bridge grins back at Peter.

"The ones with places for nine candles," Bridge says, picking up one. "One for each night, plus one to hold the candle that we use to light the Hanukkah candles."

"Um." Bridge blinks. "...Not traditionally, no."

"I am in total agreement with you there," Bridge says, picking up another one (http://www.menorah.com/img/sports.jpg). "That's just... odd."

"Little metal people should totally be appropriately dressed for the weather," Bridge says solemnly.

Mercer had retreated back to -- somewhere, he wasn't sure where, after his encounter with the angel in the park -- and finally gotten himself more or less under control before heading back out into the town. Holiday lights seemed calming somehow, so he took a detour into Stuff for Sale.

Think about the holidays -- Trent would be home for that, they had plans. Maybe if he kept concentrating on those simple, comforting ideas, he could keep himself focused. Under control. And hope that Conner got his message in time.

Bridge frowns in thought as he catches sight of the new arrival, trying to remember where he'd seen him before.

Oh. Right. History class.

"Doctor Mercer?" Bridge asks.

Mercer turns in surprise, looking at Bridge for a long moment and completely failing to recognize him.

"You know my name?" he asks, confused.

"It's very. Um." Apparently Bridge doesn't know what to say either. He catches sight of another (http://www.menorah.com/catalog2/shopexd.asp?id=4097) menorah. "Perhaps I should have paid better attention to my lessons, because I've apparently missed where all the moose fit in to Hanukkah traditions," he comments.

"I've, um. Read about you, sir." Bridge explains hastily.

"Have you?" asks Mercer, peering intently at Bridge and forcing a laugh. "Nothing bad, I hope."

"Not... exactly?" Bridge says, trying not to flail. The books *had* been very clear about the fact that Mesogog and Mercer were separate, after all.

Mercer nods slowly. "I know my earlier work wasn't exactly the most ethical stuff out there." He can tell Bridge is a little panicky, though, and he frowns. "It's okay, I don't bite, really."
