Apparantly, nothing much happened on January the tenth that people celebrated, except for Margaret Thatcher, and she didn't know who that was, so she decided they'd still celebrate Theophant. She was also too lazy to change the sign. "Hey, Chrono, did you know they put twist caps on bottles now? Why didn't they do that before?"

Rosette proceeded to tell Chrono a version of the events in the bar last night, complete with overexaggerated gestures that had her tumbling out of a pew at one point. Chrono just held his face in his hand the entire time. Did she live to embarrass him in front of the Dark Prince, or what?

The Doctor wandered into the church.

Juggling oranges.

"Hey, there, Doc," Rosette said, grinning a bit and restraining a more enthusiastic greeting for fear of messing up his juggling. "You're pretty good at that."

"Catch!" he said, before he tossed one of the oranges Rosette's direction, pocketed one, and then caught the third and started peeling off the rind with his thumb. "I trained at a circus in Russia."

Rosette caught the tossed orange, but just barely, finally finding a practical use for her full chest. She laughed as she rolled the orange into her hand. "Are these Russian oranges?" she asked, not even thinking that oranges probably don't grow in Russia. "Y'know, they used to have a problem with hooker nuns there..."

The Doctor had a bit of a knee jerk reaction.

"Problem with what, now?"

"Hooker nuns," Rosette said, with a grin. "Back, like, a long, long time ago. I came across it in some reading. Pretty grusome consequences if you were caught." She nodded, quite seriously. "So it's a good thing I am neither a hooker nor an ancient Russian."

"As am I," the Doctor said. He went back to peeling his orange and took a few steps closer. "How's life been treating you these days, Rosette?"

"Pretty good," Rosette said, slipping off a glove and tucking it under her arm as she, too, tried to peel her own orange. She figured the Doctor wouldn't have tossed it to her and expect her not to eat it. But digging her nails into the rind reminded her of last night. "I found out last night they make twist tops to beer bottles. I think that's a marvelous invention. I just wish I didn't find out the hard way." She pointed to the little bruised spot on the bridge of her nose.

The Doctor leaned in a bit to examine Rosette's nose. "And how did that happen?"

Pouting, Rosette leaned in, too, so the Doctor could get a really good look. "Because Lucifer's a jerk and didn't tell me right away that the top just twisted off, so I was trying to pry it off with a bottle opener, lost my grip and, BAM! My fist went right into my nose."

There was a small grunt from Chrono as he heard the story again, but then he went back to his random tasks around the church.

"Oh dear, oh dear," the Doctor said. "Right unfair of him, pulling a trick like that. Sorry such an 'orrible thing had to happen. But now you know the wonderment that is twist off caps. Catching up with the times, fantastic."

"Well, he is the devil, so I guess I can't expect him to be too terribly nice to me," Rosette said with a shrug. "And I definately think I'm doing okay with catching up with everything here. Still surprises everywhere, it seems, though. Didn't you say you do that sort of thing all the time, though?" She looked around for a second. "Chrono, gimme a bowl or something to put these rinds in...Anyway, you must be an expert at adjusting to new things like that all the time."

"Oh, don't like to brag, me," the Doctor lied. "But I've had so many experiences that it gets hard to surprise me."

"The hooker nuns seemed to surprise you," Rosette pointed out with a grin and a wink.

"You caught me there," the Doctor admitted. "It's not something I'd ever really thought about."

"In the grand scheme of thing," Rosette said, nodding her head with a thoughtfl look on her face, "that's probably a good thing that you didn't." She grinned. "So, what brings you to the church today, Doctor? In need of any religious services, or are you just sharing the fruits of your labors?"

She bit into the orange, thinking herself very clever for that one.

"Oh, just popped by the share a bit of citrus with a lovely nun, that's all," the Doctor said. "No business today, really. Nothing to confess or anything."

Rosette's bruised nose wrinkled a bit. "No one ever has anything to confess. It would be a lot more interesting around here if they did."

"Well, I'm a shameless person on the whole," the Doctor said. "And probably the students are all afraid of the squirrels eavesdropping on the confessions, them."

"The confessional is ninety nine percent squirrel proof," Rosette said, assuringly, "and, well, I clean my guns while I'm in there, so that takes care of the remaining one percent."

"Maybe I should advertise that, though..." Wheels in her head cried out as they set into motion after not enough use.

"Course, I suppose if you want someone in your confessional, I'd be happy to do that for you," the Doctor said.

"Well, knowing that you're going to do it defeats the whole purpose of the confessional structure," Rosette said with a sigh. "You have the booth because it's supposed to preserve anonymity. Not that it isn't very difficult to guess who it is, and there's only one person on this whole island who ever bothers to seriously confess, and I can always tell it's him."

"...I won't ask who that is," the Doctor said. "That probably doubly defeats the purpose."

Rosette smiled. "I wouldn't have told you even if you did ask."

"Course, didn't mean to imply you would," the Doctor said, popping a bit of orange into his mouth. "You know, we never did get around to taking you to Pizza Planet."

Rosette chuckled a bit, shaking her head. "Nope, we never did. But I think we definitely should." She gave a firm nod, followed by a smirk. "Although I don't know if I can handle learning about twist tops and pinball in one week."

"Wouldn't want to overwhelm you at all," the Doctor said. "Keep things at your own pace, definitely."

"When do you think might be a good time, then, Doctor?" Rosette asked, rolling forward a bit on the balls of her feet, then rocking back onto her heels. "All I do is sit around here all day, so that leaves me pretty open..."

"Oh, well, I'm teaching on Friday, me, but I've got a totally open weekend," the Doctor said.

"Ooh, Saturday afternoon might be good, then as the mun works that night," Rosette said eagerly. "And what're you teaching this semester? Same thing as last? Although I don't think I remember what that was, or even if we talked about it, really...."

"Saturday afternoon it is," the Doctor said. "Newish subject this term. I'm teaching Adventuring Survival Tactics."

"Adventuring Survival Tactics," Rosette said the name as she thought about it, then nodded approvingly. "Anyone calling it AST for short?"

"Haven't had a session yet," the Doctor said. "It's possible there will be a few who might call it that."

"I think you should suggest it," Rosette suggested with a nod. "It's got snap."

"Snap, eh?" the Doctor said, snapping his fingers. "I like snap."

Rosette nodded. "Snap is good." She would have snapped, too, if one hand wasn't still gloved and the other wasn't a little sticky from the orange.

"You're a very amazing person, Rosette," the Doctor said.

Rosette gave the Doctor a strange look at the seemingly random compliment, part arched eyebrow, part grin, part frown. "Because I like snap?"

"And so much more," the Doctor said with a nod. "I very much look forward to Saturday."

"As do I," Rosette grinned, bounce renewed. "It'll be a lot of fun!"

"And now it is with heavy hearts that I must leave," the Doctor said. "Hope you enjoyed the orange."

"Oh, I did, very much!" Rosette beamed. "Thank you for stopping in, Doc."

The Doctor gave Rosette a bright smile. "Saturday," he said, before turning to leave.
