The Devil's Nest, Sunday Night

Shuichi arrived for his shift a bit earlier than he thought he should. It was his first night after all! And...he'd never actaully asked Lucifer what time the place opened...

Either way, with a few books and an annoyed Yuki in tote, he stepped behind the bar with the unusually silent lady from before. She had some strange mask on half her face, but Shuichi really didn't have the vocabulary at the moment to ask her why.

Don'tscrewup.Don'tscrewup.Don'tscrewup.Don'tscrewup.Don'tscrewup.Don'tscrewup. Was Shuichi's mantra for the evening.

The Devil's Nest is open~

[[AFK for an hour or two-back for most of the night.]]

Talk to Lucifer

And there he was, no need for any heel clicking or spinning. Doing that might get you a strange look.

The totally handwaved omg dinner with Phoebe had gone very well, although unfortunately Bond hadn't managed to learn much from her. Which meant that, despite her obvious willingness, he hadn't put forth an invitation for her to join him at the hotel. Besides, he had a date for drinks, and a poker game to play.

A busy day, all in all. He wondered if he could put in for overtime.

Unbuttoning his dinner jacket as he walked into the Devil's Nest, he raised an eyebrow at the pink-haired youngster behind the bar, and walked over. "Martini, please. Gin, vodka, Kina Lillet, and a twist of lemon. Shaken, not stirred."

Yuki is sitting and sipping on scotch for a change. He's still smoking. And paying careful attention to anything that's said to the stupid pink thing. Bothering him would distract, though he can only think of one person who would DARE such a thing...

You'd have to make a really good martini to get Bond to click his heels and spin. Instead, after spending a bit of time studying the suspicious albeit intriguing fellow in the sunglasses, he walked over to the man's table.

"I'm looking to get a hand of poker going tonight, and I was told this was exactly the right sort of place to do it. Any chance you might be the man in charge here?"

Rita was not in what one could call a good mood. Her co-conspirators had disappeared, and her dinner with Eric was not yet played out was now over, and she had more business to conduct.

Still, a drink with a handsome man would break up the evening nicely.

"Buy a lady a drink?" she asked, sliding in to the seat next to Bond's.

"That would be me," Lucifer said, giving the man a once over. It wasn't every day you see a human copy of an angel. "I believe a poker game could be arranged, yes."

"Absolutely," Bond drawled, with a smile. "Another martini for the lady, please," he said to the bartender. Giving Rita a quick, assessing look, he shifted his seat a little closer.

"I'm going to take a shot and say that business didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped?"

"Splendid," Bond replied. He waved his hand at a chair. "May I?"

"Never depend on other people to do things if you don't have to," Rita said, shaking her head and looking annoyed. She smiled at the bartender, and sipped the martini, relaxing slowly. "I won't be able to participate in that poker game, I'm afraid. More business, to make up for others' lack of resolution."

"I wouldn't dream of stopping you." Lucifer leaned back in his chair, taking a sip of his martini. "I don't believe I've seen you around here before. New in town?"

"That's a shame." Bond looked genuinely disappointed. He also realized he was going to have to work quickly if he was going to get any information from her.

"But you raise a good point. Things are generally better handled if you can handle them yourself."

"Visiting, on a little business. Not the poker game, however," he added, just in case that was a concern. He offered his hand. "Name's Bond."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Precisely." She perched her chin on her hand and took another sip of her martini. "Then you can enjoy the fruits of your labors unobstructed." Or the fruits of your illicit doings. Same thing. "And what kind of business do you indulge in, Mr. Bond?"

Re: Talk to Lucifer

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
There wasn't any concern.

Lucifer looked at the offered hand for a moment before taking it. "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Bond. Call me Lucifer."

Bond tilted his head to look at Rita. "Oh, I'm an international spy," he said, with a grin. "You know, traveling around the world, secret agent stuff. What about you?"

Hopefully, she'd fall for the humor he'd injected in his tone, and assume he was fabricating stories.

Re: Talk to Lucifer

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Bond almost laughed out loud. No really, what kind of businessman -- whatever business he was in -- called himself 'Lucifer'. It was the sort of name that just begged 'investigate me'.

Which was exactly what Bond would do, once he had a little more to go on. "Do you play poker, Lucifer?"

Re: Talk to Lucifer

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
The kind whose name was Lucifer. Of the kind who had little to worry about from an investigation by MI-6 or any other human organization.

"I have played, yes," Lucifer replied. "But, I must admit, it has been some time since I last played."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Another thief, then. Rita's smile widened. "Such difficult work," she purred, amused. "So worthwhile. You must find it exhausting. I?" She looked thoughtful, then grinned wickedly. "Am an international do-gooder. I give money to the poor unfortunates across the nations. Traveling from coast to coast to spa to hotel." She took another sip of her martini. "Usually as tips."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
And that gave Bond the tip-off he needed. Definitely illicit activities, probably high-end theft or con work of some sort. Not the mark he was looking for, but still a possible source of information.

"That sounds like an exciting life. What brings you to a little town like this?"

Re: Talk to Lucifer

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-01-22 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Which immediately told Bond that the man was good at cards. He seemed to sure of himself to be willing to admit a lack of skill at anything, unless he wanted to put the other person off his guard.

Bond smiled. "I'd be honored if you'd join us. Just a casual game among acquaintances, of course. Nothing extravagant."
