Ching Tai - Saturday Evening

Chris escorted Luna into the restaurant and they were seated rather quickly.

He smiled at her after their waiter brought them water and tea. "How long have you been in Fandom?" he asked.

[ooc: Chris is here with Luna and their thread is locked to them; but you're welcome to use the post for your own Chinese food needs!]

"I have been here since last summer." She said. "My father thought that perhaps it would be a safer place for me to spend my holiday. And you?"

"There is a war going on within the magical community where I am from. We had planned to go to Sweden but Father thought since I had been more actively involved in a recent altercation..." She shrugged, letting the sentence trail off. Then she grinned, "the same grandfather you rang up in dueling?"

"He is doing well?" Luna didn't like to think of her teacher as being dead. She'd got over the 'having dinner with a teacher's son' thing earlier in the week. "My mum passed too but my father is brilliant."

"He sounds like a good man." Luna gave a smile. "I hope you are able to learn what you need here."

Then she blushed a little at the hand patting. She wasn't an out-and-out girly girl. She had no idea what was wrong with her, what with the blushing and all. "Nine. I had sometime with her, and for that I am glad."

"Your mum was a fantastic teacher, though I was rather a poor student." Luna looked up, "have you meet her face to face or just spoken on the telephone?"

"Is California very far from here?" Luna asked as their dinner arrived.

Luna picked up her chop sticks. "How do you normally travel to there or return here?"

"I have never been on a plane. Did you like it?" Luna asked, watching him with the fork for a moment.

"Usually through use of a portkey. An object bespelt so that when a certain person touches it at a certain time, he or she is sent to a previously determined place. For shorter distances we use floo powder to step through fire places, brooms and apparition." She explained all the while watching the fork. "Have you ever used chop sticks? They are quite easy once you get the hang of it."

"A plane sounds much more relaxing." Luna said without explaining further. "Would you like to? I could teach you, if you like."

"I learnt while traveling with my father a few summers ago." Luna smiled encouragingly. "Pick up both sticks between the thumb and second finger of the hand you write with, and make sure that they are even."

She waited and was unfazed by his lack of know-how. Ravenclaws loved to pass knowledge on, even in small ways.

Luna smiled and nodded. "Precisely like that. Now, hold them so that the bottom one stays still and try to move the top one with your fist finger, using your thumb as a sort of hinge."

She demonstrated with her own sticks. It might have been a little more difficult than it sounded.

"A gallant first effort." Luna smiled and set the stick in the middle of the table, off a little to the side. "I practised a while before using them at dinner with anyone other than my father."

Chris got points for cultural, culinary bravery. As much as winning a small sized teddy bear at a carnival would garner.
