The Perk, Saturday Morning

John woke up earlier than any teen should on a Saturday, like 10am!  He went for a run and ended up in town at The Perk for some coffee, the breakfast of champions.  Perk coffee is so much better than camp coffee.

Buffy hadn't woken up that early, nor had she gone on a run, but she wanted coffee anyway. So here she was. She gave John a sleepy wave. "Hi."

Jo stopped into the Perk to grab some coffee. "Hey, John."

"Hey, Buffy." John said, waving back. "It's a nice morning for coffee."

"Jo!" he exclaimed. "How've you been?"

"Pretty good," Jo said. "Sorry for missing practice last weekend. Something came up suddenly."

"Uh-huh," Buffy agreed, and cuddled the mug the barista handed her. "Do you know why, like, half the school seems to be gone? Have the trolls come back?"

"No worries, we just had a passing/receiving workshop," he replied. "Is everything okay?"

"Well, I know Molly went camping with her class, and I think my roommate did the same with his," he started. "Yeah, so camping - wait, trolls?"

"Yeah, everything's fine," Jo said. "Ash send me information about a hunt. Supposed to just be a quick salt and burn, but he gave me the wrong map and I ended up stuck in a pixie nest all weekend."

"That doesn't sound good," John cringed. "What do you fight a pixie with?"

"With booze," Jo said. "The little bastards are practically indestructible, so I had to get them drunk enough to let me go."

"Alcohol as a weapon, that's serious smarts, Jo."

Buffy pouted. She'd sort of been looking forwards to fighting trolls again. To hone her skills before going to Sunnydale.

"Yeah, last year before Christmas, I think, there were trolls and they kidnapped people and then there was fighting!"

Jo grinned. "I grew up in a roadhouse, you'd be surprised how quickly the idea came up."

"That must've been fun for the fighter types," John said. "Did you get in on the fights with the meteorite creatures yesterday?"

"A roadhouse, that's cool," John smiled. "Did you ever ride the mechanical bull?"

Tori had woken up somewhat early, and decided a trip to the Perk was just what she needed.

Coffee was in order, especially with everything that had happened yesterday. At least her shoulder weren't hurting as badly, now. But yes, they were still bandaged. Can't be too careful.

Jo shook her head. "We don't have one of those. I could kick your ass at pool though."

The pout increased. "No, I only heard about it later on the radio. What about you?"

Buffy gave her a little wave with her free hand. "Hi Tori. What's up?"

"Hey Buffy." Tori smiled and waved slightly. Stupid scratches. "Not much, just trying to get over what happened yesterday at the Fun Run. You?"

"Aw, you were there?" Buffy gave her a jealous look. "Was it fun?"

"I was, yeah." Tori nodded, amused by the look Buffy was giving her. "Well, it was up until the cute aliens turned into these big ugly things. And looked at me like an afternoon snack."

"Eeek," Buffy's eyes widened. "Cute aliens are much better than big ugly ones! Did you kick ass until they got cute again?" she asked, hopeful.

"They really are. I wonder why they can't stay cute." Tori shook her head in disbelief. "I totally did, yeah." She nodded, smiling. "You weren't there?"
