The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday

River was sitting behind the desk in the Arms Hotel, keeping herself busy by making a collection of origami animals that she carefully arranged around the sign:

Welcome to the Arms Hotel
Today's Special
Gunther's mystery meal

River had had several ideas for the special of the day, but Gunther hadn't approved of any of them.

Having quickly bored with the park activity, Joanna came back to the hovel hotel.

She approached River, frowning at the little origami animals. "They really must teach the service staff nothing about about proper customer service and presentation in this place."

She waited to be acknowledged.

Stan walked in to find Mary. Instead... it was the mermaid?

Hrm. Stan disliked being led on, evin if he was foolish enough to fall head over heels into it willingly.

So... not a mermaid?

"How's my favorite mermaid?"

"I can see that," he said, looking around at the lobby. "Is that why you chose this position? To study?"

Joanna's entire face frowned, "I assure you, no paper frog has *ever* jumped out of my mouth."

She surveyed River, "I will be going to the beach. I require lunch. Do I dare and hope you people can have lunch brought out, or do I need to direct my servant to pick it up and bring it to me? And *what*, prey tell, is a mystery meal?"

Joanna ignored the confusing first statement. This girl was obviously not of sound mind.

"Packed lunch?" Joanna spat the words out. "Do I look like someone who would eat a *packed* lunch? My dear, if you can't provide me with a decently prepared meal on the beach that is merely yards from your establishment, just say so. I don't ask for much! A table, a chair, an umbrella for shade, some decent food and your best wine -- white, chilled, and with strawberries."

She sighed dramatically and pressed the back of her hand against her forehead, closing her eyes, "And please tell me you have at least a decent Russian caviar."

Joanna had yet to encounter a real wizard, so naturally, she thought the young lady was poking fun at her.

"How dare you! How dare you sit there so smugly and mock me. Do you know who I am? Do you have any *idea* how ridiculously powerful my family is?"

She took a breath, "Fist, I had to deal with a bumbling naked juvenile boy! Then, I've had to contend sleeping in a room I would barely consider adequate for my dog -- if I had a dog. And NOW, do you think I'm just going to stand here and let you have fun at my expense? DO YOU?"

She slapped the desktop, "Is there even a manager around this dump? I demand to speak to someone in a position of authority!"

"Are your studies going well?" he asked. Not sure if Gunther is a good person to study. Or... a positive person to study, at the very least. Temperamental.

"Yes, leave her a message. Tell her that Joanna Stayton is NOT happy."

She took the origami prawn. She was going to rip its head off but she noticed that it really was quite impressive, so instead, she waved it about angrily for a few seconds before storming off towards her room.

"He's an odd bird," he agreed. "Keep up your studies. They might take you someplace someday."

Stan decided to brave the mystery meal.

"I will," he said with a smile, still wondering if she was a merperson in disguise or someone who had simply broken his heart pranked him.

He nodded his head as an indication to sit with him, if she was so inclined. If not? Her Mona Lisa smile would have to do.

Stan bowed his head and placed the bird across from him as company. His smile was small and genuine.

She may have caught Stan pretending to feed the bird once or twice, if she were quick enough.
