The Perk, lunch time

Isabel got to the Perk a few minutes early and grabbed a table in the back, away from the sunny front window to wait for Johnny.

He walked in and stood still a moment until he spotted her, then he headed on over to the table she'd chosen. "Hey you."

"Hey yourself," Isabel smiled, getting to her feet. "Food first?" She only blushed a little remembering class.

Her blush was sweet and Johnny grinned, taking his sunglasses off and hooking them at the collar of his t-shirt. "Food first." He was tempted to ask her if she'd taken a cold shower after class, like he did.

If he'd asked, Isabel wouldn't have told him. A girl had to have some secrets after all.

She ordered an iced coffee and a yogurt parfait from the barista and stepped aside so that Johnny could order. "So what exactly does a growing guy eat for lunch?"

Ah, but Johnny did love to flirt. And making the girls blush was always fun.

He winked at her and then ordered a club sandwich on wheat with a dill spear, and a bottled water. "Something that's going to fill me up and what the heck are you eating? Enough to keep a bird alive?"

"The yogurt's protein, there's fruit," Isabel explained. "Besides, it's cool. Which is important. Between the weather and class I've dealt with enough heat today."

No. Johnny was not going to make a comment about protein. He was not going to do it. "Does the heat get to you, Isabel? I find I quite enjoy it."

She paid for lunch, rolling her eyes at the server before heading back to their table. "I bet you do, Torch."

"Thanks for lunch," he said, eyeing the server as well, and then sat down after she'd taken her seat. "Torch. I like it." He smirked and took a big bite out of his sandwich.

"Why am I not surprised," Isabel laughed, opening her yogurt and taking a spoonful. "Don't get used to it. I won't be using it often. For the record, no thanks are needed. I figure I owed it to you."

"You owe me lunch," he asked. "How that? Have you been mean to me lately and I just didn't get it?"

"No, not at all." She shrugged, stirring the yogurt with her spoon. "It's more to say thanks. You've helped make what could have been a pretty depressing summer fun."

Johnny was taken aback slightly and his grin was a little shy. "It's been my pleasure, Isabel. Always."

"Back at you," Isabel smiled. "So tell me, did you do the three minute date thing that Bobo was babbling about?"

Put off bad news? Never.

"Yes I did and can you imagine by surprise when Faile turned me down flat. I don't know why." He grinned, finding this amusing for some odd reason. "Did you do it?"

"I don't know her, so can't say why. I'm sure you were your usual charming self." She shook her head. "No. One, I didn't know about it, and two, even if I did. Not really my thing." There's also the whatever it is she has going with Peter, no reason to complicate things.

"Hey, I thought it be fun, just a way to pass off the night. And I'm always charming." He winked at her.

"Oh I'm sure it is. But with my luck," Isabel grumbled, "Instead of getting paired up with you where I'd at least have an amusing conversation for three minutes, I'd wind up paired up with someone like Barty and spend the entire three minutes trying not to punch him for staring at my chest."

Johnny laughed, "And you think I wouldn't stare at your chest?" Which he made a point of doing so if only for 2.5 seconds.

Isabel threw her napkin at him. "But you're not a person in a position of authority over me. Not that I particularly care about Mr. Awesome. Just like I don't particularly care about our new substitute principal."

"I kind of like, Barney. I think he likes me." Johnny smirked. "Eh, the new substitute principal sucks. Why don't you lean over here and kiss me, break her new decree?" He was flirting and teasing and just you know, being Johnny.

"Gee I wonder why?" she asked, ignoring the smirk. "Forget about kissing you, even though I know I'd enjoy it. I was thinking of heading to the girlkissy event tonight." Isabel said that fairly certain it would send him to a happy place.

"Girlkissy?" No. He hadn't seen the posters yet. "Um..."

"You didn't see the posters?" She laughed, enjoying the opportunity to explain. "Since PDA's with the opposite sex are outlawed, someone put up posters calling for a night of girlkissy tonight."

"Um. Girls and kissing. Like making out? Girls? Like two girls kissing making out?" Johnny sat back, his mind definitely going to a very happy place.
