Millie opened the store and set out treats for the customers. Then she set out to do some cleaning and rearranging. Which might just result in books seemingly independently moving themselves around the store.

Stan decided he needed a book. And his alterior motive was that he wanted to seay hello to the proprietoress.

Millie smiled when she saw him come in. "Hello, Stanley," she said cheerfully.

"Hello! I haven't been in here for a while, and wanted to drop in," he said with a smile. "Finished up those Barry Plodder books. For research," he assured. "Purely for research."

Millie grinned at him. "I just read them because they were fun," she said. "And I'm glad you decided to drop in."

"Purely research," he said with a smirk. "To try to understand my younger clientel...who seem to be playing hooky with my appointments. How have you been?"

"I have been quite well," she said. "I'm sorry to hear they have been skipping their appointments. Surely that is not good!"

"That is not good. I fear that events at the school may be contributing to why they are absent. Frankly, I'm not sure if I should be more worried for them or more worried as for their victim."

"The strange woman running the school?" Millie asked. "She seems very troubling."

"I share your concern. I've been tempted to talk to her, but I'd rather on neutral ground. The school is the school, and I would only venture in with an invitation. Not everyone is ready to talk, and forcing the issue can make it work. You've heard stories?" he asked.

"One of my students says her roommate was forced to move from her room because co-ed rooms are not allowed. And I believe she has used magic on students."

"I'm not from a magic world, that I know, but it seems that it may be a bit of an unjustified use of power. Have there been injuries? Reports to the clinic?"

"I quite agree," she said. "Magic should not be used for such things. I don't know if anyone has been hurt or not, but I think I would have heard if they had been."

"Unless they feel guilty, if they feel that it is their fault it's happening. People tend to internalize, not always run out to the authorities. Especially when it is an authority figure abusing power."

This was all a bit beyond Millie, but he seemed to know what he was talking about so she just listened intently and nodded.

"I'm sorry, I'm babbling on about work. How's sales? Selling out of your protest books and geurrila warfare hisories?" he asked with a quirked smile.

"Sales have been good, but no, not much call for protest books as yet," she admitted with a smile. "Perhaps I should put them on sale?"

"You may want to have a disclaimer that the shop does not necessarily agree with the content of these special on-sale books... and issue my card as a bookmark," he said, chuckling. "Wait, no, I don't want you getting in trouble just so I have something to do on Tuesdays."

Millie laughed again. "I highly doubt her magic would be able to affect me," she said. "I'm quite an enchantress in my own right."

"As I know nothing of magic... is it possible for different spells to... affect things differently? Your powers as an enchantress may not be able to deflect or void her powers, and vice versa? Not that I want this put to the test, mind you. I'm just... trying to work out the possibilities."

"Anything is possible," Millie said. "But shielding seems fairly constant in the magical types I've learned about."

"Hrm... I wonder... would you be able to make sheilding tokens? That might be something. If it works," he mused.

"I have no idea," Millie said. "I don't know that they could be used by anyone without magical abilities even if I could make such a thing."

"Hrm. It's something to look in on, at least. Hrm. So...aside from a collection of revenge protest literature and the Barry Plodder series, what would you suggest?"
