Someday Robin's Show Will Have a Name. Today is Not That Day [Tuesday afternoon]

"Hello, children." If Robin was wearing a turtleneck and holding the ends of the sleeves in her hands, it was for no real reason. Really. "Lines are open, and remember, you can call in without getting me sick or even getting out of bed. Just doing my part."

Hey, the radio still worked! That was good, right? And she thought her phone was wonky, 'cause she couldn't get through to Toronto, but it must be Toronto's side that was messed up, because it seemed to be ringing through to the station just fine.

Ring!

"Hi, you're on the air," Robin said, as chipper as she could be, given the circumstances.

"Hiya!" Rikku bounced. Chipper was sort of her default. "I think I broke the internet. What do I do?"

"You broke the internet," Robin repeated. "Have you tried restarting?"

"Yup, twice now," Rikku said sadly. "I was telling some guy he was being an idiot about Barry Plodder and everything stopped. It was all "can't load" this and "timing is out" that. Not just that page, all of it. E-mail and that page and the other one with the weird videos of people setting things on fire."

To be honest, she was sort of impressed with herself. She'd only had the laptop for a week or so.

"Have you checked your connection?" Robin tried. "Sometimes it tells you you have a signal, and you don't. Computers are kind of jackasses like that. Can I say that on the radio? Did I get bleeped?"

"I didn't hear a bleep," Rikku said cheerfully. "So it must be okay! What kind of signal am I looking for? Is it one of the lights on here? There's the blue glowy thing that says it's on, but most of the buttons I'm kinda not so good with."

Robin rubbed her temple. "It should be on your screen, if it's a laptop. If you're talking desktop, you need to check all your cable thingies."

There were some muttered curse words and random thunks from Rikku before, astonishingly, "Whoa, hang on, it's this thing, with the little pictures of monitor-heads and the big red X-deal, right?"

She clicked it and, like all idiots who are on the phone while operating a computer, began reading the text out loud in a murmur. "'Connect to a network: connect or disconnect to another network. Show all. ... There are no networks in your area.' But I'm in the dorms. It was fine a minute ago." She hesitated before adding, "Is this 'cause I called him a ... something that'd probably really get bleeped?"

"...probably not, considering the stuff you can look at online these days," Robin said, thinking that if that was true, Barney would never be able to access the world wide web every again. "Maybe the dorm network is down. Do you guys have in-house tech support or something?"

Rikku blinked. Those were certainly all words. And they probably made sense together.

"Do we? I'm ... new to this stuff. The internet thing. I didn't think I was gonna break it that fast. Do you, uh, know who I should ... call, or go pester?"

"...um, the IT department, if you have one," Robin suggested, starting to lose her patience. Damn kids. "You didn't break the internet, it's just down. Don't you have a guide or a manual or something? Have you tried reading it?"

"The manual is for the laptop itself," Rikku said huffily. "I totally read that for the other one, that I took apart? So I could figure out what all the little wires and pieces were? But it didn't say who to call if the internet broke or whatever."

"I'm not a tech person. I barely know how my own computer works," Robin sighed. "Your internet is out. Call the IT people in the dorms, or talk to the people at the office, or...something. I don't know."

"You know," Rikku sniffed, "I don't think you're very good at this whole 'advice' thing."

She hung up, wondering what an Eye-tee department was and how you even spelled that.
