The shooting range had been a good idea, if simply for his own sake. After a good morning's practice, Cable put up a list for people who were allowed into the range for Rikku and Ino - currently containing one name with a couple of statements as to the effect of 'There's earmuffs if you need them'.

He wasn't trying to be mean. It's just that some people had issues with the talking.

He settled down behind his desk and his laptop after slapping the Open sign on the door.

Ino showed up right after class, scowling and carrying a fussy baby droid. "Morning, Cable-san."

"Morning," slight pause at the droid, "Ino."

"It's homework," she told him grumpily, "and Kabuto's useless so I've got to take care of it myself."

"Homework?" No, wait, better not to ask. Cable wiped the mildly confused expression from his face. "Better leave it in the shop while we train."

"It's a baby. I can't leave it all alone." Otherwise she would've just locked it in her closet or given it to Kabuto for the week, honestly. "And I don't see why we've even got to do this stupid assignment when Master Skywalker is currently a plastic toy. How unfair is that?"

Cable glanced at the baby again. He may have had a hint of helpless in the stoic, there. "Just make sure it doesn't make any noise."

Her shoulders slumped, "I'm not really in control of that." Ino frowned at her droid, "But I'll definitely hope for the best."

"Hope is good," Cable offered, getting up from behind his desk to walk towards the meditation room.

"It's also stupid if you ignore practicalities in favour of it." Ino said, following him, "And it's hard to be hopeful when you've got this thing crying in the middle of the night." She was predicting that sleep was going to be a bit scarce for the next week.

"It's a direction, not a cure-all," Cable spoke, settling down in the meditation room. And still giving the baby a mildly skeptical look.

Saving babies, he could do. Dealing with them was another matter entirely.

Ino sat down, settling the droid comfortably in her lap. This took a few minutes as the droid fussed and she spent a while calming it down. "I know, but, really, a lot of people treat it like it is a cure-all. That's annoying." Like her droid. Honestly.

"It's a good starting point. Something to remember." Cable crossed his legs, eyeing her levelly. "But like most things, often worthless unless you act on it to the best of your abilities."

"I'm not lazy when it comes to something I want." She told him. "Or when protecting my precious people."
