Book Haven sat closed up and dark. For some reason no one had showed up to open it.

How odd. That certainly wasn't like Lana...

John stopped by to check on Lana. He'd heard about her breakup on radio, but had still expected to see her at practice. Assuming she'd just stayed at work, he dropped by and was surprised not to find her there.

Millie was just coming in fron a day out and stopped dead when she saw the store dark and someone waiting out front. "Goddess!" she said and hurried over to unlock the door. "I'm sorry, were you waiting long? I'm not sure where the girl is who is usually here. Perhaps she is sick, though I'm sure she would have called."

"I was looking for Lana," John said, confusedly. "I'd heard she had a rough night and had expected her on campus a while ago."

"That's odd," Millie said. "She's ever so responsible about working here."

She went in, gesturing him to follow, and went directly to the back room. "Oh dear. Nothing has been set out. I don't think she's been here all day." She looked up at him anxiously. "You said she had a rough night? Was she ill?"

John followed her into the shop. "Well, the radio said something about a break up. And she wasn't in very good spirits last night. I just really thought I'd see her at practice."

"Oh dear," Millie said again. "A break up? With that nice boy she was so happy with?"

She wrung her hands a little. "Do you think she might be hiding away? But even when the other boy left, the one she was so much in love with, she still came to work. This is just completely unlike her!"

"That's what I heard, if you can trust the squirrels," John frowned, trying to figure out what might've happened and not really liking his ideas. "Maybe I should check her room when I get back to the dorms. Doesn't sound like Lana to just disappear."

"It isn't at all," Millie said. "Even when she has been terribly hurt and in the clinic she has always at least called."

She was already pulling out her cell phone and dialing. "It says she is out of service. How odd. Would you check on her? And let me know at least handwavily if she is there and well?"

"Definitely," John nodded. "I think I'll go do that. Just in case there's something wrong." He got a bad feeling from what Millie said about Lana's phone.

"Thanks for your help, and I'll let you know either way," he told her before heading out of the shop.
