Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Monday

There was an Open sign by the door and a dog lying quietly beside it, his ears tucked back against his head. Cable, himself, was nowhere to be seen-- but that had never been a particularily rare occurance.

He was in the back, in the locked room, working the last pieces of the teleportation unit with quiet efficiency. But that wasn't anything that would concern any visitors.

Mmm, religious holidays I know nothing about.

Mmm, chocolate.

Michael walked in after class and bent down to scratch the dog behind his ears.

"Still spoiling him," Cable remarked, dryly, from the door opening. "I see you made it through the statues intact."

"Yeah, I didn't get taken. But everybody made it back anyway."

"I know." Cable slid the spear in his hand back into its sheath on his back. "The island has an interesting way of bouncing back."

Michael laughed quietly. "Been here less than a semester and I noticed that."

"It's not exactly a well-kept secret." He stalked past a few gun cases, eyes flicking sideways-- he inventoried the contents of every single one. "But it takes getting used to." And, if at all possible, careful checks and controls. Just to be sure.

Michael nodded, watching him.

"I think I'm pretty much used to Fandom weird."

"Don't be." He pulled one case open quickly, rooting around before slamming it back shut. "It keeps you from being prepared." Cable glanced towards Michael, finally. "You'll be wanting to continue your training?"

"Yeah", Michael agreed. "It's important."

"It is," Cable affirmed, turning suddenly-- towards the hallway at the back of the shop. "We all have to learn to deal with the things that make us different..."

Michael straightened with a last scritch for Tether.

"Even if it's just so we can hide them better", he said quietly.

"I think we should all aim a little higher than that." He motioned for Michael to follow, slipping into the meditation room.

"If I go home, it's the way it is."

He followed Cable into the room.

"People fear what they don't understand," he said, mildly, sitting down on the floor. "But with power comes the responsibility to use it."

"I don't want to wind up on a government dissecting table because somebody saw the wrong thing."

He was just afraid, and not just of himself getting hurt.

"Then you have to learn care," Cable replied, eyeing him steadily. "Use it like a scalpel when you have to."

"...okay", he said after a moment's thought, nodding slowly. "Chalk up one more level to learn, then."

"Already on the blackboard," Cable deadpanned. "Sit down."

He did, already closing his eyes in preparation for the lesson.

"Let's start a little closer to your own level," Cable said, dryly. "Awareness. Like with the apple, last time-- picture the molecules in your mind." Pause. "And breathe steady, this time."

"Molecules, okay."

He started to try, focusing as much on his breathing as the image.

Cable smirked faintly. "Yes, molecules. When it comes down to it, telekinesis simply implies the power to shift them. Like the scalpel. But until you reach a certain level, you need something to focus it through-- like you do with your hand."

He glanced towards the door. "My people used a weapon to narrow that focus-- to channel it all into one point."

Michael's focus strayed a little at that mention.

"A weapon?"

"The psimitar," Cable replied, some stray memory flicking past his consciousness. He changed the subject back, just as quick-- "When you focus your power as you did with the targets, what do you do?"

Michael had to think about that. He'd never put it into words before.

"The power comes from my mind, but I channel it through my hand. Then I just have to concentrate on what I want it to hit."

"Entire objects?"

"Big objects are easier. Little objects I have to concentrate harder. But, yeah, I just imagine them burning or blowing up and it... usually happens."

Cable raised an eyebrow. "'Usually'?"

"Not always", he admitted. "Sometimes they just fly. Or if something distracts me, sometimes I get the wrong thing."

"Then don't get distracted," Cable smirked. Slightly. "Close your eyes. Focus your power as you usually do-- don't release it."

Michael nodded and closed his eyes again.

After a moment, his hands started to glow.

He watched. Carefully. "Pull it to a tighter focus."

He wasn't sure how to do that, but with some obvious concentration, managed to pull it in to the centre of his palms.
