They do go fast, they do. But first he needs a ticket.

Michael skidded up to the booth, standing on his toes and waving his arms. "A ticket. Can I have a ticket. A ticket for the go-karts?" He pointed at them. What else did he need to say? "Please?"

Some distance away Mohinder was hurrying towards his son, carrying a little girl.

"Um." Michael looked in his pockets. Then checked again. "No?" He turned and yelled, "Dad!"

Mohinder dropped Alex beside her brother and smiled at Joanna before turning to Michael. "You know Alex can't run as fast as you."

"Sorry," said Michael, then pulled Mohinder up the booth and told Joanna, "He has the tickets money."

"Last week I hadn't any," replied Mohinder, handing over the money. Not biological ones anyway.

"We are!" Michael was bouncing happily.

['kay. Later.]

Mohinder scanned the sign and nodded. "Of course. I'll make sure they're careful," he said, before Michael started tugging him in the direction of the go-karts.

Alex hung back, looking at Joanna, and asked thoughtfully, "How fast are the moving parts? 'cause I can move my fingers really fast." She held up her hands and demonstrated.

"I know a kid who lost his finger in a bicycle," Michael gleefully teased his sister.

Mohinder looked up from strapping him in. "Michael." And a muttered sorry issued from the passenger seat.

Alex was easily distracted. "They're pretty," she told Joanna, standing up on her tiptoes.
