Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Thursday

Most of his bugs at Stark's had been discovered; Cable was fairly sure of that. He'd disabled the rest just in case anyone got any ideas about payback in unscrupulous ways. It wasn't as if they'd turned out to be as necessary as he'd thought they'd be at first.

But that was a different kind of business. Today, he'd flipped the Open sign and taken out his laptop, revelling in the utter lack of paperwork. He was doing some more research on trouble spots in Sri Lanka-- you never knew what might come in handy.

He still hadn't mailed Irene the letter.

Jack had an idea. It wasn't a particularly good idea, but it was an idea, and he was going to see it through.

"Hello?"

"But there was a sign!" he insisted. There was. Freelance police, must have own gun. Jack could do security. Nothing to it. He ignored the "you idiot" because sometimes it was unspoke, sometimes it was spoken, but it was always ignored. Usually.

"The freelance police. With the sign that employees must furnish their own gun. So I'm here to make with the furnishing." It made sense to him.

And it wouldn't be like he was brandishing the gun, just furnishing it.

"Well, you don't have a lot of competition on the island for this," he said, craning his neck. Slightly. "There's a bit of a monopoly."

He'd be leaving soon. After he made his point.

"I think there should be more shops. You can't have a stranglehold on goods. Consumers have a right to choose." He put his hands on his hips for emphasis.

"Fine," he muttered, leaving.

He'd come back some other day. Maybe then, he'd be treated like a customer instead of a nuisance.
