Graduation Brunch: The Park, Sunday, mid-morning to mid-afternoon

A banner, the letters wrapped with fresh spring flowers, hung from the trees, spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009! No missing letters or anything.

Spread out across the park were plenty of tables and chairs, some under the shade of picnic shelters, some out on the grass in the sunshine. For those who felt like getting back to nature, there were even red and white checked blankets spread out in a few areas for old-fashioned picnic-y goodness. Lack of ants not guaranteed.

The long table that ran along next to the picnic shelters was laden with a vast moddable array of traditional brillig-y food, including fruit, veggie snacks, breakfast pastries, sandwiches for the especially hungry or those who arrived more toward the unch end of brunch, and a wide variety of J,GoB-catered desserts. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks, and while there were plates provided, there were also wee picnic-basket-shaped trays for carrying things back to your seat, wherever that might be.

A space had been cleared for dancing, if people cared to do more than just listen to the light music being played through the speakers, and there was also an area set aside for outdoor games of croquet, horseshoes, or frisbee.

Everybody's welcome. Come celebrate with the Class of '09!

[OOC: Wait for the OCD. Don't make Eliza Doolittle have to cut a bitch. OPEN! And no one had to get cut! It's a good day!]

Never one to pass up a free feed, Kawalsky made his way to the food and drink table and started to pick out what he planned to snack on for the next hour or so.

Amber didn't really sneak away from her ma and Loretta. They sort of did their own thing and she watched them head for the food tables right away, so she decided just to wander around for a bit by herself.

Jeff was still a bit hungover after last night, so he was hanging over a table with a glass of water, staring off into the great beyond.

Arthur wasn't a 'graduating senior' (much as he would've preferred to be, as it might have increased his chances to get off the island if it turned out its magic wanted to keep them longer) but he knew a few, so he dutifully made his appearance.

It was such a chore to sit here and eat, obviously. (Not that he thought of it like that - although being that he was a growing boy of more than average muscle mass, he really was packing away mountains of food)

Voice recovered from all the yelling she'd done yesterday, and still in the celebratey mood, Angela was out and sipping at coffee as she mingled.

Mac was a graduate. A graduate. She was still on a high from that, and still looking positively gleeful as she settled herself at a table in the sun.

Romeo filled a plate with danishes and got a mimosa, and took longer than was strictly necessary debating if he wanted bacon or not.

He still couldn't believe he was a graduate.

Claire sat on a blanket under the tree, arms around her legs as she watched the crowd. She was a graduate, she .... kind of broke up with Cal, she was leaving soon.

It was a weird day.

Angela bounced Abby in her Baby Bjorn as she surveyed the crowd for familiar faces.

She should be in a place where she could talk to people. River was here for a reason, and she would do her best to complete the mission successfully. There were a few people she needed to talk to, as well.

Reno was going to spend a few minutes entranced by the banner.

If anyone asked, it was because he was going back to a place with damn near no flowers to speak of. No grass. No trees. Nothing that looked particularly alive.

In actuality, he was staring because he'd just realized that '2009' looked amazingly like 'Poos' flipped backwards.

Yes, he was already a tiny bit drunk. Or maybe that was 'still.'

She didn't recognise this boy, but he was easy enough to read. A newcomer, he might have respective on things that could be useful. Sometimes history got in the way of the future.

River sat down opposite him, placing an apple in front of her. "You are new," she said.

Arthur had been halfway into a sandwich, so he tore off his last bite and swallowed it. Right. "And you would be...?" he asked, without acknowledging her statement one way or another.

Sue put together a plate of fruit and vegetables to take back to her seat.

"River. You are Arthur Pendragon." She put a fruit knife next to the apple. "Can we talk?" His name was easy to pick up. And she did want to talk, although anyone who didn't know her with a basic understanding of the situation would do.

Lee figured he couldn't ditch the brunch so he was out there, waiting on his father before he found a table to sit at.

Lee slid into one seat and his father took the other. Just like old times. A nice family meal.

Yeah, right.

"You look absolutely thrilled," his father remarked dryly.

"So you've heard of me," said Arthur's ego, which didn't keep him from finishing his sandwich without much of a bother. "All right." At least she'd, you know, asked. They didn't often lend him that rather natural courtesy around here.
