The Arms Hotel; Wednesday [ 06/10].

Gunther had seemed all too eager to help Valentine with her German today, even though Valentine had tried to explain to him that she hadn't planned on working on her German today. However, there weren't any sausages involved today, so Valentine supposed she should take the help while it was relatively lacking in traumatic experiences. But Valentine started to realize one problem with his correcting her grammar and spelling every five seconds, and that was that shouldn't he be, you know, cooking and doing his job right now?

Gunther said he had it covered.

"Gourmet peanut butter and jelly," Ender voiced, contemplatively, as he walked into the hotel. "I think he gets more inventive every time I visit."

"Laziness and distraction is the new mother of invention?" Valentine asked. "He was too busy lecturing me on genitive case to bother coming up with anything more complicated."

"I'm not sure they even have peanut butter and jelly in Germany," Ender replied, leaning an arm on the desk, "The more you learn."

"Next time I agree to learn a new language, remind me to make sure it's not something native to my coworkers," Valentine said. "I can't even bring in the Chinese without being met with a 'Nein, das ist nich wichtig!'"

Valentine's Gunther impression was really good. Really.

His mouth twisted into a slight smile. "So, beyond altercations with the local chef, how've you been?"

"Good," Valentine said with a nod. "Or at least not bad. Und du, klines Bruder?"

"I still don't speak German, for one."

Not that he wasn't mostly sure he'd divined her meaning from the context of her sentence.

"Und für zwei?" Valentine asked, because she couldn't help it, but she held up two of her fingers for clarification.

"I think these other languages are dangerous," he said, with a hint of amusement in his voice. "Especially when you get a hold of them."

Valentine couldn't help a small grin. "Don't worry too much; my grammar will have to improve immensely before I can do anything with it. How's the play going?"

So do I. And I can't HAVE peanut butter. DAMN YOU. D: *cries*

"It's going," Ender said. It was an easier topic than Ben, but that was one he might have to bring up during the course of this discussion, too. "It's too early to tell, although it's interesting to see some of the other-versal students deal with the differences in cultural expression."

I'm sorry! I didn't knoooo~ooow!! *cries, too, omg*

"I don't suppose there's a chance I could sit in on rehearsals to see what you mean by that first hand," Valentine said.

"I'm not sure how Geoffrey would feel about that," he said, thoughtfully. "But I can always share notes if you're really interested."

"Of course I'm interested," Valentine said, grinning a little and figuring Ender didn't need her telling him that.

"I was being largely rhetorical," Ender affirmed; he could follow that particular train of thought.

"Good day," Irulan greeted, "I am the Princess Irulan Corrino-Atreides from Suite 706. I would like to inform your establishment that I shall be checking out today."

"Of course," Valentine said again, nodding. "I've got enough other notes to last, anyway."

"Sure," Valentine nodded a little, turning toward the computer to look into all that, do the nice little easy things that checking out seemed to entail, and that, she figured, was that. "You should be all set..." She was going to tag on a name there, but ran into not being sure exactly how to address her properly, so just left it off. Instead, she went with, "Atreides. That's a familiar name."

"Thank you," Irulan said. "Perhaps you know my stepdaughter?"

She knew by Earth standards she looked young.

"She's a teacher here, right?" Valentine asked.

Unless she was talking about Leto, in which case, boy, Valentine had sure been wrong about him.
