Atlas Gym [Tuesday Afternoon]

After her class, Veronica was feeling restless so she headed to the gym.

She ran for a bit on the treadmill but decided that what she really needed was to hit things so she decided to work with the punching bag.

Unless someone came in and was up for a spar, of course.

"What'd that bag ever do to you?" Max asked with an amused grin from where he leaned against the wall, arms crossed.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Veronica snarked, glancing at the... rather large man leaning against the wall.

"Well, I have been accused of an overabundance of curiosity," he admitted. Even if that curiosity tended to be focused on a few narrow topics.

Veronica smirked at that given it was something she had heard on more than one occasion. "Just making good use of it's intended purpose as something punch."

"I've never really understood punching bags," Max shrugged his massive shoulders. "They don't hit back."

Judging from the whole 'broken more than once' look of his nose, Max had experience with things that hit back.

"Well, there was no one here to hit," Veronica pointed out.

Max grinned and quirked an eyebrow as if to say 'I'm here now'.

Because that would be an even match-up.

"You call that a punch?" Fred joked, having come into the gym for his own reasons.

Hey, Veronica was a lot tougher than she looked.

She smirked. "I'm game if you are."

Veronica hit the bag with a hard one-two punch and glared at him. "Hell, yeah, I do."

"Well then, let me feel it," Fred said, walking over. "Got it?"

"I never say no to a beautiful woman," Max smirked. He pushed himself off the wall and made his way out onto the mats.

Hmm, this seemed like it could go very wrong. Which didn't stop Veronica from throwing as hard a punch as she could at Fred's stomach.

"Ow."

And hurting herself in the process. Oops.

Veronica already had her hands wrapped for hitting the bag so she moved to the mats as well and did a quick stretch of her arms.

"Careful," Fred said, and in a concerned, not condescending, tone. "See, swinging hard at a bag is one thing. People are harder."

"You got any formal training?" Max asked as he rolled his shoulders back a few times to loosen up. He just wanted an idea of how serious he should take the fight.

"Formal? Not really," Veronica said. "But I spar with guys who are bigger than me on a pretty regular basis."

"Yeah, the bag has some give."

Fred's stomach... did not.

Max laughed in amusement. "Which is to say you spar with guys on a pretty regular basis." He didn't imagine there were all that many who weren't bigger than her.

Veronica laughed with him. "Okay, point. But I live with a half-demon and a vampire so I'm pretty tough."

Tough like a marshmellow, yes.

"Fair enough," Max decided as he shook out his arms and settled into a thoroughly casual stance. Because he'd also decided to let her take the lead on this one to get a feel for how good she was.

He suspected that 'professional soldier' and 'almost full-time bar-brawler' gave him a bit of an advantage, and that wasn't even considering the size difference.

"Sorry. Mutant," Fred said with a shrug. "But if you want... I can stand here, and you can get some practice hitting somethin' proper. Might want gloves, though."

Oh, yes, he most definitely had the advantage. Veronica knew how to fight for self defense purposes but she wasn't overtly strong or anything.

She circled for a moment, trying to gauge her best plan of attack and then threw a kick at his side.

"Really? You wouldn't mind?" Veronica asked.

Well, why should he? It wasn't like she was strong enough to do any damage.

Max let it land just to get a feel for what she could do and grunted at the impact. "Not bad," he coughed. Veronica had some legs on her.
