Luke's Diner, Thursday

The kitchen staff had apparently decided that Priestly was in league with the little blue men running around stealing things and harrassing people.

"They wear kilts," said the cook. "You wear a kilt. It's obvious."

Priestly tried to point out that that was like saying anyone in a black trench coat had to be in league with goths. They just stared at him blankly.

Today's specials
Peanut butter and jelly
Potato chips
Fla-Vor-Ice

Luke's was open.

[ooc: and the OCD is skulking about elsewhere in a black trench coat.]

Dinah held the door for Jak as they walked into the diner, saying, "Okay, I want something with peppers and cheese today, I don't know why, and french fries. Mmmmmmmmmm." She grinned as she saw Priestly and waved to him as they headed for a booth.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Jak had absolutely no idea what any of those were, which was something you could tell from the confused (if totally, dedicated and devotedly determined) expression on his face as he padded in. He had no trouble with the door-holding, no.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for Luke's menus having pictures, then. Dinah handed one over as they sat down, and kicked off a shoe to pat his foot. Questions? Then grinned at him and asked aloud, "Been in here before?"

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
He shook his head, momentarily flabbergasted by foot-on-his-foot. Um...

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, easier than holding hands through the whole lunch! Although Dinah's sense of mischief was also in effect.

She pulled her foot back and said, "Ooops." Then grinned at him and said, "Okay, I can recommend the burgers--" She pointed to the photos. "Roast cow. Which, I don't know, maybe that's like yakow. And the turkey sandwich is one of Priestly's specialties. Oh, and fries are fried potatoes, with salt."

La la la. Feet on the floor. Being good.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hi Priestly!" Dinah grinned. "This is Jak. And yeah, Mountain Dew Red Alert for me, and umm..." She checked with Jak. "More Mountain Dew?"

Jono was probably crying somewhere.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Zack had shown him all about the cow steaks here! They did taste a lot like yakow, if less tangy all around. His face hovered over the menu, trying to figure things out, although the pictures really were very helpful and stuff.

Eventually, Jak's finger landed on the turkey sandwich Dinah had indicated. Hey, she'd said it was good!

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Jak nodded, grinning, and unaware of any roommates crying anywhere as he looked up at Priestly. He nodded his head again. This time in greeting. Hey, man.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perfect." Dinah grinned and kicked her feet a little. "Ohh, and ice cream after. Shakes or sundaes. Nom." She put her chin in her hands, and asked, "Classes still good? Did you get to punch people yesterday?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bacon cheeseburger for me, and could you put peppers on it? And Jak's going to have the turkey sub." Dinah grinned at him. "I told him it was one of your best. And fries! Lots of them." She glanced over at the kitchen staff. "What are they bitching about today?"

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded, although the nods took on a thoughtful quality. Well, Jak had punched at people? He did have a lot of experience taking out Lurkers back home, and everything!

... Jono wasn't just crying at the mention of ice cream. He was probably hiding in the closet for a good brood.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, turkey sub, that was the thing he'd ordered. Whatever a turkey was. Dinah had said it was good.

Jak followed Dinah's glance towards said kitchen staff, looking slightly confused. Was he missing something here?

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah tapped his foot with hers briefly, and asked, Like the class? Nooot to mess with him. Just curious now.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm. Some of both? And dude, I heard about those guys. They stole Leto's shirts." Dinah grinned. "I should buy them ice cream.... But c'mon, the fact you're about 100 times their size doesn't exonerate you?" She sent the kitchen staff one of her usual glares.

And as usual, they snickered.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He shrugged one shoulder. It's okay, he said, The teacher has major problems, though.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Jak just blinked owlishly at Priestly. Sprouts? What? Uh... he was just going to nod. Dumbly. Right. Sprouts.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good plan," Dinah said, although she kind of thought Lacey would never fire Priestly in a million years. "Although maybe you could trick them into giving stuff back? I haven't actually seen them yet." To Jak, now that Priestly had pointed that out, she said, "Oh, sprouts are good. Really. Um, lettuce-y vegetables?" She looked up at Priestly. "Jak's from Sandover. Not so much with the sprouts."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Priestly said that, too, Dinah sent back, shaking her head. "Just be glad you weren't in Defense Against the Dark Arts yesterday." She made a face. "We had to face our worst fears. Not. Fun." She tilted her head. "Do you know what yours is?"

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Jak blinked, then rubbed the back of his head. Um. Being eaten by a Lurker shark, maybe? He'd heard that was pretty nasty.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Lettuce-y vegetables was... just about specific enough to make sense to Jak. It didn't sound too good, but he might as well try it, right? He leaned his arm on the table, and gave Priestly a firm nod.

Whether it was to the sprouts or the being trashed and belligerent was... up to when you were paying attention, really.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I wasn't even sure what mine would be." Dinah took one of the packets of sugar and started playing with it, and made a face. "Turns out, it's me as a vampire... do you guys have vampires?" she checked. "Or, um. Bloodsucking fiends that can turn you into a bloodsucking fiend?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not so much, it's kind of tropical," Dinah said blithely. Not thinking of how to explain she knew that. "With volcano bits. Well. Eco vents. They look like volcano bits." She nodded her head to Jak. "Jak's in that class with the teacher you don't like, and said you were right, the teacher's got major problems."

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
... He knew a lot of types of Lurkers, but that was a new one. Nope. He shook his head, slowly, because that did sound pretty terrifying. ...You know, the kind of thing you'd rather punch and leave to fall apart.

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Jak would just nod slowly to confirm that. At least it wasn't a 'what is wrong with you' kind of slow nod, but more the slow nod of someone who knew someone else was well and truly crazy, and it wasn't anyone in the room.

He made a gesture at his head to illustrate it.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Quiet for a second, Dinah said, "I kind of turned into one for a couple days, about a month ago. It's complicated. I got better, but." She swallowed, shook her head. "Yeah. Not. Fun." She grabbed a little creamer, and started making a pyramid of them. "Anyway. No classes today. Or tomorrow. So, fun time to be had."

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Fun, yep.

Comfort was not Jak's strong suit, and so his best attempt at that was tapping her with his foot, and picturing Jono's face again when he'd fallen out the window.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Which was much more what Dinah needed anyway, because sympathy would've made her emo, and this? Made her laugh. "Ohhhh, man. Oh! We should rappel off the roof! And climb in your window!"

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Jak perked up. He liked that idea!

After spending a second trying to figure out how to mime next week, he just tapped her foot again.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Oooo. Yes!" Dinah wriggled and grinned at him. "Next Thursday, or Friday maybe? I'd need to get the gear. And maybe invite a couple people. If you're good with that?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks Priestly!" Dinah called after him, and shot the cooks dirty looks.

"Soooo hungry. But this'll be worth it."

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Friday sounds awesome, he shot back. Sure, more people, but on the other hand? Rappelling really did sound awesome. Might even be useful if they ever ran into another crisis back home.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool," Dinah said contentedly, and tapped his foot and sent back, Thanks Jak real fast. "So, got plans for the weekend? Or just hanging out?" She grinned. "The window?"

[identity profile] unborn-renegade.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
He shrugged one shoulder. Probably going to hang out in the room, run some laps. And Fight Club.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yaaay Fight Club." Dinah sent back, Maybe I'll see you running. And an image of jumping over rooftops again.
