Pixie Dust, Thursday

Okay, Elena was late. But she was here, and she was going to spend her shift today finding herself a prom dress.

Slutty, or classy? Long, or short? This was her dilemma.

Pixie Dust was very open, especially for anyone else doing some last-minute shopping.

...Rose was starting to come to Pixie Dust way too much, but when she knew the people she wanted to talk to were going to be there, it just made sense.

"You totally haven't picked out a dress yet, have you," Rose challenged, giving Elena a bright smile of greeting.

"Not even close," Elena sighed, holding up a dark purple gown against herself. "Should I dress to get laid, or to look classy?"

She glanced over at her friend. "Got a dress? And a date?"

Meaning Someone In Particular, yes.

"Both," Rose said instantly. "We can totally find one that does both." She wandered over to take a closer look at the purple one. "Got a dress that hopefully does both the other day. No date though. You?"

"No date," Elena said, deciding against the purple. "What color's yours? And does that mean no Dimitri the Hot coming to dance the night away?"

"It's black and long," Rose said, pulling out her phone to flip through it and find the pic (http://pics.livejournal.com/guardianborn/pic/0000p9tz) she'd taken in the mirror when trying it on. "And totally better say 'don't you wish you could fuck me, but you can'.'"

She shrugged, looking down a little. "Hell no, it's - yeah, it'd just be weird."

"Very nice," Elena said, nodding her approval. "I'm looking more for, 'Don't you wish you could? I'm free later.'"

Ah, the joys of being unattached. More or less.

"Because ... it's a school dance, or is there weirdness with you two?"

"It's gotta be long though," she decided, tilting her head as she studied the dresses. "Cause it's Prom and all. Got your eye on anyone for the afterwards?"

"Yeeeah, both?" she said, fiddling with one of the racks. "Ah, yeah, the age thing is already a big deal so I don't wanna rub it in."

"Full-length," Elena said, nodding her agreement. "Age thing, I get. Weirdness, I want to hear more about."

She pulled out a rather striking selection in dark red next, mulling it over. "No idea who. Maybe someone will surprise me. Maybe there will be loads of hot, single guys. You looking to get picked up, or is that back to weirdness again?"

Rose concentrated on the current choice, feeling uncomfortable talking about this but at the same time, it was Elena. "I like the red. Also we'd look amazing together - more so than usual."

"It's not weirdness exactly? More-" and now she was smiling a lot "- really, really good. Except that we don't have any time really."

"You're just rubbing it in that you're not my date," she teased, putting the red one back. Reluctantly. She'd remember where it was.

"Reeeeeeally good?" she asked with a grin. "You could skip prom. Better things you could be doing, you know. If not, you have to go there afterwards in that dress."

"I'd be happy to be your date if only you'd ask me," she teased back. "I've just been dyyyyying to be asked."

"Afterwards," Rose said, grinning back at her. "I wanna go and hang out with everyone. It'd suck to miss it. But I might've gotten his roommate to spend the night out and made sure Adrian isn't going to need him all night."

"Adrian can handle himself," Elena decided. "And if you were my date, you'd have to buy me a wrist-corsage. And realize that I'd probably bail on you near the end to get laid."

She held up a darker-colored dress, made out of a filmier material. "Can you believe we graduate soon?"

"No, he can't," she said firmly. "But he can stay inside all night and not need a guardian. If I get you a wrist corsage, I'm going to need one too. That's just how it is. But going on the understanding of bailage? Oh yeah. Cause I'm going to be out of there."

Rose reached out to touch the material of the dress. "That's weirdly pretty. And totally unique. And - yeah. This year. Very fast. I don't even know."

"You need to get him a guard-dog," Elena decided. "Will he actually stay put? The President would have wandered off just to spite us."

Elena considered the dress (http://www.interludeusa.com/Interlude2010/style_details.php?product_id=1163) again. "It's sort of unusual. I think I like it. Hang on, I'm gonna have to try this one on. I'd have to do something dark with my eyes, all smokey, right?"

She darted a quick look at her friend. "Your dress was black, right? Any color preference for your corsage?"

"It's a - I don't think he'd disrespect Dimitri like that," she said. "It sounds stupid, but - even Adrian's not that big of a jackass."

"Yep, black," Rose agreed as she nodded for Elena to try the dress on. "And hell if I know. I don't do flowers."

"Doesn't sound stupid at all," Elena said, offering Rose a smile. "It takes a pretty big jackass to do that."

The President was a spoiled little rich brat, and didn't care who knew it. He'd mellowed out some, though. Nearly dying had helped.

"Wanna be my date?" she asked, complete with a fake leer. "You'll look hot, I'll look hot, so it's really a win-win."

"Yeah, it's like - way to shit on the people who'd give their lives for you," Rose said dryly.

She pretended to consider it. "We'll look hot together. I think my schedule is open. But only if you save me a dance."

"Rufus would be amused," Elena said, shaking her head. "And I think I can squeeze you in for a dance. I mean, if you promise to look extra hot, just for me."

She dropped a wink and sailed off to the dressing room.

Rose was laughing as she shooed Elena off and wandered over to check out some of the shoes. Not that she didn't already have a pair but still.

"One of your coworkers - here, I mean - offered to do my hair and makeup," Rose called. "I think she was afraid I couldn't handle it myself. But don't worry. I have the hot covered."

"That doesn't sound like Jenny," Elena mused, raising her voice enough to be heard from inside the changing room. "Unless you really won her over, and she was offering to smoke and drink and have a bitch session with you."

"Nah, Shelley, Dimitri's roommate," she explained. "She works on Wednesday, I think? Meet her sometime, and you'll see why I was worried."

"I'll have to," Elena laughed. "Sad that I don't know my own co-workers, isn't it? I guess it's because we don't have the same shifts. Is she color-blind, super-girly, or both?"

"She used to be a Playboy bunny," Rose said flatly, picking up a cute black shoe.

She thought that was self-explanatory.

"Seriously!?"

That caused Elena to pop her head out of the changing room. (Just her head, she was still changing, thanks.)

"... I have to meet her."

"This is what I'm saying," Rose laughed at Elena's reaction. "I so kinda wanna be there when you meet her. It's ...something."

"I shouldn't judge," Elena grumbled. "I mean, I'm a cheerleader."

Not a very good one, but eh.

"Oooh, I think I like this," she said, tugging the dress into place and examining her reflection.

"Not in the same way," Rose said decisively as she put the shoe down.

She headed over to the dressing room. "Come out, let me see. I have clips, do you need to clip your hair up?"
