"Geez," Katchoo complained over the sound of the door slamming behind her. "Can you frikkin' believe they sold out of preview night for next year already?"

"Seriously?" Francine stopped pouring sugar into a shaker just in time to avoid spilling it all over the counter. "Just from the people who bought tickets at the con?"

Katchoo nodded, crankily (oh, like that was a surprise), and slumped onto a stool, elbows on the counter. "Some really short girl I passed in the Sails Pavilion said they sold two thousand just on Wednesday night. Frikkin' hell. I bet Casey was in line, driving everyone crazy around her."

Francine had to ask.

"Really short girl?" Because... "Was she like... twelve?"

Yeah, because Katchoo calling anyone short was Bluebeard's-chamber levels of rich.

"Maybe. Probably not, but if you walked up to a dealer's table together they'd probably think you were her mom." Katchoo was gunning for a smack or something, apparently.

With a nearby dishtowel? Because that's what was aimed at her. "I do not look old enough to be a 12 year old's mom!"

The dishtowel got her squarely in the arm, but Katchoo didn't seem to mind. "No, but don't think I couldn't tell that was you squealing over the tiny kids in costumes. You have mom instincts."

Like she didn't know that well enough after Lily.

"THE PUNCH-GIRL. THE TINY PURPLE-HAIRED PUNCH-GIRL!"

"There was a little boy in a Steel Guy suit, too." And a hot guy in another one, but Francine chose to leave that comment out of her reminiscence.

Katchoo spun around on the stool. "And an entire family of Lego James Bund characters! We oughta dress up next year, Francie."

"We have a year to figure that out," Katchoo stalled. "I dunno. Bitterwoman and what's-her-face. Damn, we shoulda done that this year."

You forgot an important disclaimer there, Katchoo. One you'll probably be yelling at the top of your lungs soon.
